Synopsis:

Fifteen-year-old Piper Crenshaw knows her house is strange. It’s never needed repairs since it was built in the 1800s, and the lights flicker in response to things she says. As if those things aren’t creepy enough, it’s also the place where her mother committed murder.

To prove she’s not afraid of where she lives, Piper opens a forbidden door, which hides a staircase that leads to the ceiling. That’s when the flashbacks of the original residents from 1875 start, including a love affair between two young servants. Each vision pulls Piper deeper into not only their story, but also her house. Piper confides in her best friend, Todd, whom she’s gradually falling for, but even he doesn’t believe her. At least, not until her house gets axed during a prank, and the act injures Piper instead, cutting a gash the size of Texas into her stomach.

Piper realizes her house isn’t haunted—it’s alive. To sever her link to it, she must unravel the clues in the flashbacks and uncover the truth about her mother’s crime, before she becomes part of her house for good.

dalene_65@live.com no, I have never had a ghostly encounter.

  2. Yes! It’s rather emotional. When my big sis, Connie, passed away with Leukemia, she smiled, looked up and pointed to the window. She said, “Aw look, it’s the Angels, Momma. They are so beautiful. Look at the Angels.” My mom kissed her forehead and bent to cry. That is when Connie passed. We are all comforted by that and it was actually mentioned by the Priest at her funeral. Additionally, I know Halloween was Connie’s favorite holiday and Reese Cups her favorite candy. The next Halloween after she died, her cat, named Dr. Zhivago, went up on the table in front of all of us, which he never did. Took a Reese’s Cup out of the Halloween candy and began to eat it with relish! Never before had he done that, and never did afterward. We all looked at each other and said Connie was there with us. I know her ghost follows me. I would have never made it through all my rough times without her whispering in my ear. At night, before I go to sleep, I swear sometimes I can still hear her playing her records and giggle. We used to share a room together. My ghostly encounter is peaceful and lovely. Lots of love, Emily guido.emily@gmail.com

That’s so sweet and gives me hope Emily. I too lost my sister, just recently. I’m the youngest and she was the oldest. We used to share a room when we were younger and told each other stories and teased each other. She moved here from California and we shared so much in the last 12 years. I swear I still hear her sometimes and once in a while I find her bedroom door closed. Since she passed I have always kept it open. I wonder if she is playing with me:) Thanks for sharing sweetie!

Yes. I woke up in the middle of the night to see my Mother standing at the end of my bed. She died when I was 3 and I was about 14. I knew it was her and I wasn’t scared at all 🙂

  7. Gads, Lauren I love the cover and this is perfect for Fall.

  8. I have actually had numerous encounters as I am quite sensitive to them. My most memorable encounter however was after a night of ‘ghost-hunting’ though. A group of us went to this old cemetery out in the country, off the beaten path. I heard many things that night but its what I saw that stayed with me, she was young, maybe in her mid teens with blonde hair and sad eyes. She hide behind a headstone when we walked through the dilapidated gates, interesting huh? That she hide from us. Well as the night progressed she became more curious than scared and on more than one occasion our eyes met. she knew I could ‘see’ her and I think thats all it took. You see, I didnt leave her behind at that crumbly cemetery, she came home with me, by accident of course.

On the night in question, I was laying in bed around 4am and she whispered in my ear, her voice soft as silk and quite timid. Understand that my TV was on but muted. So I sat up and looked around but I didnt see her but heard her voice once more, soft and soothing against my ear. I couldnt understand what she was saying though. The only request I spoke out loud to her was that she could not hurt my family and if she could abide by that then she could stay.

That was 5 years ago and to this day, I see her in my house from time to time. She loves cartoons (how I know that is a different story for a different time). =]
