Hard to believe another week has flown by. I happened to notice the days are getting longer! That means spring will be here soon. Not soon enough for me! LOL

I’ve been reading a lot and working a lot and nothing much new has happened since last week. Except I got a lot of new books!

As I type this, I’m watching my dog and cat play on the area rug. What a pair.

I inherited my cat, Sheba, from my sister when she passed away earlier this year.

Quigley, my dog, I inherited many years ago when someone dumped him in my yard.

They are both black as night and getting up there in age.

Sometimes I think Quigley is the boss and sometimes I think Sheba is. I guess they work that out between themselves.

animals 125

You can’t see it in the photo, but Sheba isn’t de-clawed so Quigley is looking a little wary right now. They are so funny.

Sheba isn’t allowed outside but every now and then she slips out and Quigley will rush over and herd her back inside. And whenever Quigley goes to the back door. which is glass, and sits down to look outside, Sheba sits right next them. The only thing that moves is her tail. LOL

When I first got Quigley, I also had another dog I’d taken in, a golden retriever/greyhound mix we called Lassie. We called them the ghost and the darkness as she was almost white and he was pitch black. At night you couldn’t even see Quigley in the backyard, but Lassie glowed. I had to put her to sleep when she got an incurable fungus that water dogs get. Quigley was lost without her, but eventually he started eating and playing again. When my sister moved in from California, she brought two black cats, Sheba and Shasta. We had to put Shasta down because of old age. Now that Sheba has lost my sister, I think they are good for each other.

How about you? Got any best friends like these? Are you a cat person or a dog person or both?

I’ll be hopping over to check out your Sunday posts so be sure to leave me your link!

Comments
  1. So many awesome books. Will you quit with the freebies. I can’t help but keep adding to my reading list. LOL Thanks for the heads up. Sheba and Quigley are so cute! I am most definitely a dog person, but like other people’s cats okay. Happy Saturday!

  2. samantha1020 says:

I’m trying to be good and limit myself on the number of books I acquire but I have to admit that I haven’t been doing very well lately. It looks like you have plenty of books to keep you busy 🙂 I hope that you enjoy them all! And I love that picture of your dog and cute…too cute!

  3. The Falling Kingdom books was a great win! I love the cover of The Accidental.Alchemist. I have two cats. Lucy was a rescue and she had a kitten shortly after we took her in that we also kept, named Attie. I haven’t been able to afford an apartment that allows dogs in about 30 years and I miss having one. In my city, inorder to have a dog if you rent, you either have to live in “the hood” where the landlords don’t care, or have an extra $100 -$200 a month for pet security payments (non- refundable)! Have a wonderful week. 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I remember when I had my apartment having to pay that security payment. I guess you can’t blame them as some people let their pets destroy a place. I’m lucky to live in a house in a rural area with a huge fenced in yard and privacy.

  4. Wow, you have quite a diverse book haul! Enjoy…and I love your dog’s names. Thanks for visiting my blog.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m all over the place in genres. LOL My critters are such characters. Sheba got her name because she’s all that! And Quigley got his from the movie, Quigley Down Under.

  5. Liza Barrett says:

I love your pets, but the stories behind them made me sad 🙁 It’s good that Sheba and Quigley get along so well. I have two cats, and they usually don’t care for each other. But if it gets really cold in the apartment I’ll find them snuggling up in the bed together, and sometimes Tux will just randomly start cleaning Oli and it’s adorable 🙂

Thanks for stopping by Classy Cat Books!

  6. bluekaren says:

Chills, The Crawling Darkness, and Strange Magic look very promising. I am not even going to click the freebees, I have such a TBR list already. Congratulations on all your wins this week!
    My Sunday Post

  7. Before Midnight looks good..so many awesome books. Your pets are adorable and so funny they are both black since you inherited them and didn’t choose to pick them. Hope your week is delightful and yes to longer days. I think we all are pining for Spring.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I spotted Before Midnight right before I published my post! It sounds great. And my critters keep me busy and entertained. They’ve taken over the couch right now. LOL
It was in the 70s today but supposed to get cold again this weekend. Yuck!

  8. Waiting on Spring? Lucky! I’mstill trying to figure out when winter is coming in Georgia! LoL it’s like we have cold weather one week, and the next it’s in the 50s. I love winter, I was raised in the wrong state. 😛 Great new books, I really like the cover on The Crawling Darkness 🙂

  9. Lola says:

Aww your dog and your cat are adorable playign with each other on that rug, they seem to get along well! Our 3 rats go along quite well, but they don’t dare come close to my sister her cat. I am afraid of dogs, although I think they are adorable. I am more or a rat or cat person ;).
Hope you enjoy your new books. I loved Fire Country, such an amazing book! I have also read One More Day, it has some fun stories.

    • fuonlyknew says:

My sister used to have rats. She loved them and said they were great pets:)
I’m thrilled with the books I won this week. So awesome!

  10. Love Quigley and Sheba. I love watching cats and dog interact. My grandparents have a massive dog (part mastiff part St Bernard and part Bloodhound) who is absolutely terrified of their very petite cat. Our dog and cat kind of ignore each other but it sounds like yours are very good friends. The Crawling Darkness has me intrigued and I want to try the Amanda Lee series. Have a great week!

  11. alisbooks says:

Ahh, I’m stuck on your black kitty. I had one of my own, but she passed this past summer after 14 yrs. *Sniff*

    • fuonlyknew says:

Sheba has started to slow down quite a bit. She’s in her early 20’s and I can tell she has some arthritis. Won’t jump up in her favorite chair anymore so I built her a step stool. LOL

  12. Elisabeth says:

OH MY GOSH!!! You got the Falling Kingdoms books! I made the 90 minute drive to the bookstore to pick up my copy of the third one on the release day.

  13. katarguelles says:

I love that picture of your pets! We have one dog, a dachshund named Koko. We got lucky when our neighbor asked us if we wanted a free dog. She has been spoiled since day one.

I am so jealous you won the Falling Kingdoms books!! I entered the giveaway on a different blog. This series looks so good and I hope you enjoy all your new books.

    Have a great week!!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I make it a point to take in or adopt pets. So many need good homes.

I was very lucky to win the series! I have a couple long weekends coming up and will be diving into them:)

  14. I’m a dog lover and I have to many..lol. Instead of the crazy cat lady, I am the crazy dog lady. 🙂 As always I snatched up a couple of the freebies you had on here..lol.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m a dog person but Sheba is more than welcome here and I’ve bonded with her. She’s now my kitty.
I grabbed some of these too. LOL

  15. Thanks for sharing about your furbabies! I am a dog person, and as I type this, my dogs (brother and sister from the same litter) are harassing the fur off each other. They have been cooped up inside too long!

You got a lot of awesome looking books!

Thanks for stopping by my blog – have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

That’s when they are the most fun. Watching what they do to each other. They are very clever aren’t they?!

  16. yvonne473 says:

Quigley and Sheba are so cute. I’m more of a cat person now but growing up we always had dogs. I love all animals.

Your books look great. I hope you enjoy them and have a great week!

  17. I am waiting for the Monster that ate my socks. I hoping it in my mailbox tomorrow, or this week.

  18. I’m a cat person and Tom’s a dog person and we have one of each- Pumpkin the cat and Roxie the dog. So sorry to hear how you came to have Quigley but so glad she found a soft place to land with you. Thank you for your continued support independent authors. You were one of the first people to review Delta Legend and your quote on the back still makes me smile. Here’s hoping 2015 is a great for you, my friend. – Kel

    • fuonlyknew says:

They are comfort and company for me too:)
I’m still giddy that you put my quote on your book. Can’t wait for your next one!

  19. one more day looks good, looking it up now. Enjoy and have a great week

  20. Christy says:

Aw, they’re so cute. I’ve always had both dogs and cats, but I tend to favor cats. 😉 Enjoy your books and have a great week!

  21. Wicked Stitch looks cute. I grabbed Fire Country too today, I think. And congrats on winning the Falling Kingdoms series!! I couldn’t get into it, but I know a lot of people loved it. I might eventually have to try the rest of the series and see if I like it more now. Have a great week, Sherry!

  22. And I forgot to say that I think your pets are funny too, as well as being so cute. I’m allergic to cats, but I love dogs. We have a little Shi-tzu who is getting old. He’s one of the family. 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m real excited about Wicked Stitch. I’ve read 2 other books in the series and adored them!
And I’ve heard such good things about Falling Kingdoms. I feel very lucky for all of the awesome books I won!
Those two keep me on my toes. LOL

  23. Your pets are adorable! They’re lucky to have you! That’s a great selection of books, too! I think I need that Zombie Combat Field Guide! 🙂

  24. Congrats on the Falling Kingdoms giveaway win- that’s a great prize. I’ve heard lots of great things about that series, but I haven’t picked it up yet. Love the pet pals!
Thanks for stopping byThe Local Muse

    • fuonlyknew says:

I was so thrilled to win them! The series sounds so exciting and the books look beautiful!
My pals are curled up on the couch. Left me a tiny spot to sit. LOL

  25. atothewr says:

Cat person all the way. Good book haul. Lots of interesting stuff there.

  26. Auggie J. says:

Oooh! “The Crawling Darkness”, “Wicked Stitch”, and “Strange Magic” all look GREAT! Wonderful haul, looks like you’ve got some really awesome reads waiting for you! I’ll have to check back on the “Strange Magic” review, because that one really caught my interest!

    Happy Reading!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I was so happy when the author sent me The Crawling Darkness. I’m just finishing the second book and the series kicks butt!
I’ve read two other books in Amanda’s Stitch series so I know I’ll love Wicked Stitch too. And I just posted my review of Strange Magic. 5 Stars and a rip tear good read.

  27. Your animals are adorable! I have two black cats, one black and white and a torti. Love cats!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I used to have a cat a long time ago. I’m more of a dog person. Always had one. But now that I’ve got Sheba, I remember the characters they are!

  28. Dreams says:

Oh, wow, you’ve won the Falling Kingdom books? Enjoy! I’ve only read book one, even though I own book two. (too many books on the TBR) And I love the animals! Looks like you’ve got your hands full with those two.

  29. An amazing haul, Laura. Enjoy each and every one. BTW, just added you as a friend on tsu.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I did good this week and have a 3 day weekend coming up. It’s supposed to get chilly so I’ll be curled up with my critters reading all weekend! Thanks for following on TSU! I think it’s going to get fun there.

  30. I’m a cat person, but I would be lost if I didn’t have a dog in the house with me too. We currently have a cat and two dogs, plus my brother’s dog who should be heading back home at the end of the week. It’s really great that Sheba and Quigly have each other now. When our yellow lab passed away our silky terrier was having a tough time with it, and we got my dog a few years later. She keeps him young. I hope you have a good week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Used to have 2 cats, 2 dogs, 2 parrots and 7 guinea pigs. Now I have 1 cat, 1 dog, and 1 parrot. They keep me young too:)

  31. I’m a cat person and a dog person! I love them both so much. I only have a cat though (Socky, she is 13 and rubbing against me as I type, demanding attention!). But my parents have a dog and they live nearby so I walk him a lot. You can’t beat some four legged friends in your life, they are the best for cheering you up!
I love how well your two get on.

    • fuonlyknew says:

They are both curled up on the couch right now. I have just enough room on the end. Good thing I have a skinny butt. LOL

  32. Your animals are adorable. It’s so nice that they have each other and that they have you too!
Lots of books this week. I hope you enjoy them and happy reading.
    Thanks for visiting. 🙂

  33. Jenna @ Rather Be Reading YA says:

I love black casts. I have two cats, neither one of them black but they’re still beautiful. They’re both 14 (sisters).

I downloaded Fire Country a while ago but I haven’t read it yet. I’ve heard it’s good though.

    • fuonlyknew says:

It’s funny that both of these guys are black. It’s like a couple of shadows are following me around. LOL
I enjoy David’s books and feature all of his series. He is sure putting them out lately!

  34. Jessica says:

Quigley and Sheba are probably pretty good friends based on how they act toward each other. They both look super sweet.

  35. Naomi Hop says:

Wow… you have quite the haul! Jealous of the Morgan Rhodes books!!
One of my cats disappeared last year, so we decided to get a few kittens last week, 3 actually, because each of the kids wanted one. So now I have 4 cats, 1 dog!!

    Naomi @ Nomi’s Paranormal Palace

    • fuonlyknew says:

A few kittens? Wow! That’s sweet to get one for each of your children. I bet they are having such fun with those furbabies!

  36. Awww your pets are absolutely adorable! They look so comfortable around each other. I love Fire Country, thanks for sharing, I hope more ppl discover David Estes. Have a great week ahead!

  37. Camille says:

Oh my gosh! Your cat and dog are so beautiful and adorable! I think they do work the dynamics out by themselves. 🙂 And gosh, your haul is big! lol 🙂 I especially love the series you’ve won. I have book one on my shelf and I hope I can read that this year. 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I just spent this weekend taking some really funny pics of these characters. Will be sharing them soon.
And I’m hoping to start the series next week!
