Some chit chat.

I must have sat for over half an hour trying to think of something to talk about. Nothing really new happened personal wise. Then I started thinking about summer. It looks like spring is finally arriving. I even had to run the AC this week. It was hot and humid. Looks like we’ll be skipping open window weather and jumping right into hot and sticky! This led to thinking about swimming.

When I first moved to the Gulf Coast almost 30 years ago, I didn’t think twice about swimming in the ocean. Well, Jaws was always on my mind. LOL I used to turn my back to the waves and pray there wasn’t some huge shark in there cruising for a meal.

It turns out the most dangerous thing I encountered was jellyfish. It seemed like every time I got in the water, I got stung. Some had tentacles so long you never saw it’s body when you felt that sting.

After going on many deep sea fishing trips and seeing some of the sharks out there, my fear of the ocean grew and I finally gave up swimming in it all together. I don’t miss it one bit. That’s because I have a pool and now I can walk out my back door and dive in with no worries.

Except for the time I fell asleep while floating in the pool. I woke and saw the shadow of a shark on the bottom and freaked out until I realized where I was and that the shadow came from a child’s float. LOL

So, what about you? Do you swim in the ocean? Are you afraid when you do? Which do you prefer, pool or the sea?

Oh, and watch out! There’s a jelly or two floating around in this post!

I’ll be hopping over to check out your Sunday posts so be sure to leave me your link!

  1. I don’t live close to an ocean to swim in but I have been to a couple and the only one I could swim in was in Florida and I didn’t think about sharks..lol. The other was in California and it was to cold to swim in.. 🙂

I never can get away from your Sunday Post without at least grabbing one of your freebies..lol.

  2. As usual you have so many great looking books! I’m especially interested in the Tonya Kappes. I don’t love swimming in the ocean. For starters I’m not a strong swimmer and I’m a bit of a control freak so it’s not a great combination. Plus floating in the pool with a book sounds so much nicer! Have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

My reviews for Tonya’s books goes up tomorrow. They were such fun! And I can’t wait to get my floats out and do just that. Read in the pool!

  3. samantha1020 says:

I don’t live close to an ocean either but I don’t think that I would want to swim in it much for the reasons that you listed. I’m more of a pool type (see the bottom and what you are stepping on) type of girl to be honest. Have a great week and enjoy all of those new books!!!

    • fuonlyknew says:

That’s another thing. It seems like I’m always feeling something moving under the sand when I’m in the ocean. Lots of crabs. Yikes!

  4. Red Iza says:

I got stung once by a jellyfish in the ocean, still remember it ! I’m not a good swimmer but I would enjoy having a swimming pool so much… Well, enjoy it and your books (not at the same time 😉 ) and have a great week 😉

    • fuonlyknew says:

I went swimming after a storm once and got stung so bad. The jellyfish get chopped up in the rough surf and I had tentacles wrapped all around my torso. I though it was some seaweed as I swimming close to a huge swatch of it looking at fish and tried to pull it off. You can imagine the mess I was!

  5. Lola says:

When I was younger we often went to the sea, we have nice beaches here and no jellyfish. Although I still found it scary to go deep into the sea, so I always stayed close to the shore. And I am not a fan of all the sand, so I definitely prefer a pool. We had some warmer weather here, but this weekend it got a bit colder, but spring is defenitely on it’s way here. Enjoy your new books and have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I went way out to a distant sandbar and when I slipped off my raft I was surprised that it was about fifteen feet deep. I jumped on that raft and told my boyfriend to tow me in. I’d seen dolphins between us and shore and knew we were in shark territory.

  6. katarguelles says:

I prefer a pool since Jaws also scared me of the ocean lol. The weather has been really warm here in California but we really need the rain. But it looks like we aren’t getting any rain for awhile and moving straight into Spring weather. You got another great haul this week and I hope you enjoy them. Have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

California! Yeah, I’d not be swimming there. LOL You have those great whites!
We have some but the most abundant are Bull sharks and they can go in fresh water too.

  7. I hate the jellyfish, but otherwise, I swim in the ocean, but mostly in my pool. No sand and all the luxuries nearby. 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

You remember that time at the Pink Pony? I swear I got stung every time!
Is your pool ready to go? My filter pump quit and waiting for a new one to arrive. Otherwise I would have been in it yesterday!

  8. atothewr says:

I honestly have no problems with swimming in the ocean. The lake though, stagnant water and no salt – no way am I going in there. You got me thinking, has there ever been a story based on killer jelly fish? Not sure I have seen that.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I can hear your brain revving up Anthony!! Now you have to write one about a jelly fish. Have you ever read The Swarm by Frank Schatzing. You’d love it!

  9. Emma says:

Arg. I’d be terrified of those jellyfish.
    Happy St. Patrick’s Day.

  10. I have been meaning to check out those Mini Myth books for my children’s blog. The Queen Mab cover is marvelous. I haven’t been to the seashore in 16 years and probably haven’t been swimming in the ocean in 30! I never was stung by a jelly and have only seen a handful dead on the beach. I only saw a shark once, but it was while on a fishing boat far from shore. At my age I would only go wading now, anyway. Have a wonderful week. 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m waiting for them to arrive in the mail. I believe they are board books and they sound so cute. I’m reading a lot of children’s books and really enjoying them.
It’s real common to see hammerheads around the boats here. They’ve learned boats mean easy meals. Probably us too if we fell in!

  11. I like visiting your posts as I never recognise any of the books and I end up adding more to my wishlist 😉

I don’t really go into water, I can swim but I’m not the most confident swimmer. I don’t mind going into pools or even the ocean, but I won’t go too far.

    My haul

    • fuonlyknew says:

I enjoy finding new authors and books and love sharing my finds!

I used to swim way out there, now I don’t care to swim in the ocean at all. That’s why I have a pool. Plus it’s close to the bathroom. LOL

  12. I will swim in the ocean but I prefer my pool. More so because I don’t like being knocked about by the waves and the beaches near us are always quite rough. The added bonus of being stung by a jellyfish or eaten by a shark doesn’t help either. LOL

  13. Oh wow. That is an amazing collection of books for the week! Nice! Hope you enjoy them all. 🙂
