My Review

Andie Parker needs a job . She’ll take anything. Do anything, for Nick. So upon someone’s urging, she applies at a Fortune 500 company. She’s the last of twenty girls to apply. Figuring she has no chance, she still stays for the interview. She’d do anything for Nick.

Her name is called. She’s greeted by the owner, Zachary Drake. He’s impeccably dressed and very handsome, but there’s a coldness in his eyes. He rocks her back on her heels with his offer and she quickly goes for her Mace.

This was my first laugh out loud moment. Taylor had me giggling when Andy pulled out her pepper spray. She was so ready to use it.

Zachary, a powerful and very rich man, is used to women falling at his feet. He’s in for a shock with Andie. Yet, she’d do anything for Nick.

After some hemming and hawing, Andie accepts the job. She has no other choice.

I don’t know what it is about Taylor Dean’s books. I’m not much into romance, yet her books captivate me. Perhaps it’s her characters.

Andie and Zach are both so genuine. They have flaws, insecurities. And these cause strong heart ache for both of them.

Both are determined, ready to do whatever it takes to obtain their goals. This also causes some turbulent times.

And both are lonely, in need of a shoulder to lean on, someone to trust. But how do you trust someone you hardly know? Trust them with something so personal, so dear?

This is where Taylor truly shines. She gives you living breathing characters. Ones so real, so full of foibles. You become connected to know them. Feel their joys, pains, and fears. Laugh with them. Worry about them. And yes, cry with and for them.

I knew going into For Nick that I’d need some tissues close by. I almost cried several times. Then, I reached a scene that touched me so deeply. As I was reading, my vision blurred, I could hardly read through the tears welling up in my eyes. As they streamed down my face, I paused, reached for a tissue, and got a hold of my emotions. I wondered if Taylor cried for her characters.

Andie and Zach might not have been looking for love, but love had a way of finding them.

A beautiful love story. I ‘felt’ every bit of it.

Synopsis

Zachary Drake had love in his life–and tragically lost it. He knows it won’t come his way again. Andie Parker would do anything for the love of her life.

Even marry a total stranger.

In spite of the unorthodox manner in which Zach and Andie come together, there is no denying that things are unexpectedly good between them, taking them both by surprise. However, when secrets come between them–and trust does not–Andie soon finds herself vowing to never make the same mistake again. But, she’d do it again in a heartbeat and she knows it. She’d marry a hundred strangers if it helped Nick.

She’d do anything for Nick . . . anything.

From the Author
Do you like the cover for FOR NICK?
It’s not the first one.
When I first published FOR NICK, I fell in love with this illustrated image and used it as my original cover.
To this day, I still have readers message me, letting me know they loved my old cover.
I do too.
But, I decided to update all my book covers and give them a more modern flair.
I love the new image. It fits the heroine, Andie, perfectly.
After poring over countless images, we stumbled upon this one and I knew it was THE ONE immediately.
First of all, Andie has long black hair.
Check.
Secondly, I love that the woman is underwater. It speaks to the predicament Andie finds herself in. She’s in way over her head–and she’s metaphorically dying.
I also love that the image screams “bride.” After all, FOR NICK includes a marriage of convenience.
We used another image from the same photo shoot for the back cover.
I love that it’s not immediately obvious that she’s underwater in either image.
You have to look closely and pay attention. Everything is not as it seems.
And that’s what FOR NICK is all about.

  1. Excellent review, Laura. I am not a touchy feely person, you can attest to that. However, it is writing like Taylor’s that keep me reading clean romance novels. I cannot help but get involved with the characters. I feel their pain and sorrow, I laugh with the characters and know that by the end of the story, I will be smiling through the tears. Again, excellent review!!!!

Thanks, Sherry. I loved your review too. We were really close in what we took away from this wonderful story. I still feel teary and happy when I think about it:)

  2. Anne says:

Slow Blooming romance interests me since it s meaningful, important and leads to a foundation for love and forevermore and a long lasting relationship.

  3. taylordeanbooks says:

So . . . I was up very late last night working on my next manuscript. When I finally went to bed, I was sleepily scrolling through my phone. The email notification came about your post and I was suddenly wide awake as I read your review. I seriously slept with a smile on my face. I was so touched by your review–it brought tears to my eyes!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! Five years from now, I will still be reading this review whenever I need encouragement! Unforgettable! Then I went over to Sherry’s review and smiled even bigger! Double wow! You two are AWESOME!
BTW, the answer is yes, For Nick made me cry while I was writing it, and with every single edit. I never became desensitized to the story.
Okay, I’m done being overly effusive. (Not really, but I’ll quit while I’m ahead.)

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m so happy you enjoyed our reviews, Taylor. And it sure says something about putting your heart into your stories when it also affects you as strongly as it does us readers!

  4. Betty W says:

I really enjoyed the post and your review, Laura! This sounds like a great read! I like the slow blooming romance because it seems more realistic to me and more likely to be an enduring relationship. Thank you for the great post and contest, Taylor and Laura! woodrumbetty@gmail.com

  5. Rita Wray says:

I like the love/ hate kind of romance.

I have read For Nick and it is one of my favorites. Wonderful story!

  7. snoopyvet says:

I just like a good story. I’m not picking about the type of romance I read long as the story engages me. I do get frustrated with the love/hate kind and what to throw book/kindle but I like reading anyways.

    • fuonlyknew says:

Good thing you restrain yourself. LOL I’ve felt that way before. With Taylor’s characters, you are so engaged with them, you share everything they are going through, and it is amazing:)

  8. babyblue7299 says:

First, what an amazing review, Laura! The covers, both old an new are beautiful! I think my favorite love stories are the hate/love and slow growing love. Hate/love seem to provide more chuckles and the denials are always great! Love growing slowly is priceless, though, like flowers blooming. For Taylor Dean: You seem to write from the heart, leaving a large piece of you behind in each story, (ie. your covers, your tears for characters) don’t you ever feel guilty for giving them such pain or is it a necessary evil to reach true love?

    • babyblue7299 says:

simple directions and I mess them up! babyblue7299@yahoo.com Great post, Laura! xo Dianne

    • taylordeanbooks says:

Great question, babyblue. Yes, I actually do feel guilty for giving my characters pain. Sometimes I imagine that if I ever met them in real life, they’d be pretty mad at me!! Of course, they are fictional, but I try to write them as though they are very real. I think readers learn a lot about the human condition by experiencing what others go through and that’s what I try to tap into–putting yourself in another person’s shoes. Perhaps, by reading how others deal with pain, we can better deal with it in our own lives.
As to the second part of your question, no, I don’t believe pain is a necessary evil to reach true love. I do, however, feel that finding happiness and true love after experiencing something really hard in your life does make for a wonderful HEA story–and gives us all hope that there is “light at the end of the tunnel.”
      Thanks for your question!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Thanks Dianne! I do love at the love/hate ones. They are usually predictable but the fun is seeing how they get there. Slow blooming seems to melt my heart.

  9. marfisk says:

I like romances that connect me with the characters and their situation whether love/hate, at first sight, or second chances. While I read all levels of spice, I find the clean romances sometimes have the stronger characters.

    • fuonlyknew says:

You’ll find many strong characters in all of Taylor’s books. As with movies, if I don’t feel something, whether love or hate for the characters, I don’t enjoy the story as much.

  10. Love at first sight – that’s how it was for me and my husband.

  11. Jo-Anne Boyko says:

After reading the review, I can’t wait to read For Nick. I write reviews for everything I read too but mine aren’t nearly as good. I need to take lessons from Laura.

As for how I like my romance, I like the instant attraction but not the get into bed fast kind. Once they feel the attraction I like them to get to know each other fairly slowly.

    joanne.boykoATyahooDOTcom

    • fuonlyknew says:

      Thanks so much Jo-Anne.
I adored these characters so writing the review was easy! The hard part was stopping before I revealed too much. LOL

  12. Linda Moore says:

I have loved every book I’ve read by Taylor Dean. She’s a great story teller. I came from a very abusive home and my husband saved me from that. I knew when I was 14 that I wanted to grow up and marry him. We got married when I was 19 years old and yesterday, the 26th of Sept we celebrated our 38th anniversary. Yep I believe in love at first sight, but that loves grows so much stronger with each passing year. You become best friends and have great respect for each other if it is true, honest, heartfelt love.

I love reading and romance stories are my favorites. I love how Taylor writes clean heartfelt books and I always recommend her books to my reading friends and family.

    • fuonlyknew says:

She sure is. I’ve got her next two books to finish and I hear she’s working on another one now! Congratulations on you anniversary. So happy for you both!

  13. alisbooks says:

As far as romance in a book goes, I just want to feel that it’s real – no matter how it happens. 🙂

  14. Robin Gorski says:

I like love at first sight, but I only like it to be from one side, then I like the other partner to woo that one into a slow blooming full-fledged love affair.

  15. taylordeanbooks says:

Thank you to everyone for all of your amazing comments!!

  16. llh66 says:

I’d say I’ve had all of the above but the slow moving one is the one I married..so when your young the fast wild tear your clothes off was fun fun. The love at first site never seems to work out even after yrs together . so in the end I’m going with slow cause I have a great marriage and it seems to be lasting up p usefully for the rest of our lives
