Some chit chat.

Happy New year ya’ll! I hope your holidays were merry and bright!

So here we are, the first Sunday Post of 2016. I’ve been absent from the blog quite a bit the last two weeks, as I’m sure many of you have been. It’s been quite relaxing to not have to scramble to get posts ready and scheduled, to read that review book and have the review written in time, and to go through each and every email in my inbox.

mail photo: planet mail email_planetes002.gif

I follow a ton of blogs, most by email, and my inbox can get overwhelming. It’s been hard to visit blogs and leave comments with so many posting every day and sometimes more than once a day. I’m trying to think of a way to visit posts without it taking hours very day. I thought maybe I’d go alphabetically, visiting blogs starting with the first several letters on Monday, the next set of letters on Tuesday, and so on.

That doesn’t work for me. I miss a lot of posts and have some blogs that I’ve been following for many years and visit daily. I fell guilty when I delete a blog post because I don’t have time to comment on all of them, and it doesn’t seem right to just tweet and like their post.

I am open to ideas. Got suggestions on how to handle the endless inbox? How do you handle yours?

I’ll be hopping over to check out your Sunday posts so be sure to leave me your link!

So, what did you get to read this week?

Got any recommendations?

  1. I’m looking forward to your review of JJ Cook’s books. That’s a series I want to try. The blog commenting issue is definitely a struggle. I don’t think there’s an easy answer (or if there is I haven’t figured it out yet!). I just try my best and try not to worry about those that I miss. But of course I’m also constantly behind! Hope you figure out something that works for you. Have a great week!

  2. Emma says:

Best wishes for the new year.
I used to feel guilty looking at a full inbox of blog posts just waiting for me to read, but no more. We’re all busy and there’s only so much time in the day. I say read the posts that grab you and delete delete delete after that. 🙂

  3. Happy New Year to you too. Hope it’s a fun, eventful, and enjoyable! Thank’s for the freebies.

  4. I do a lot of my blog hopping via Bloglovin. That way I can take breaks and what not and it will delete the posts I’ve already stopped at. I don’t follow blogs via email because of the problem you are having now. I would end up feeling overwhelmed in no time. In all honesty, I don’t see anything wrong with you liking blog FB posts or retweeting their stuff. I, personally, love it when someone interacts with me on those two platforms because it’s so rare. :\ That’s just me though. Maybe others feel differently.

    Happy New Year!

I’ve been trying to figure out the easiest way to do blogging, too, but haven’t found a way. It’s all very time consuming.

I’m reviewing J.J. Cook’s book too. I love that series.

    Have a great week!

  6. Being busy with visiting blogs is both a good and a bad problem, Laura… I have the same. There are so many great blogs out there, and I want to read and comment everywhere. That just doesn’t always work, though 🙁
Your new books look amazing, especially the Devilish one with the cupcake on the cover 😀
Have a fantastic week ahead and happy reading.

  7. Molly's Book Nook says:

I totally understand about being overwhelmed with visiting other blogs. I actually stopped following via email for now because my inbox was getting crazy. I was thinking about making a second email JUST for subscribing but for now I just have all the blogs bookmarked in a folder on my browser and go through each one whenever I find the time. So far it works but sometimes if the person hasn’t posted something new since last time I checked, it’s kind of a waste of time.

To add another blog for you hahaha Here is my The Sunday Post!

  8. I have so missed you!!! Glad you for the Sunday Post….lol. All three of the books you are reviewing this week look fun can’t wait. 🙂

Have a great week and Happy New Year! 🙂

  9. Lola says:

Happy new year! I didn’t take a break from blogging. I always like the last weeks fo the old year and schedule some special posts. I did took things a bit more quiet these past few weeks, which was nice.
I struggle with commenting on blogs as well. My first priority is to comment back on the blogs who commented on mine and usually I try to coment ona few other blogs, but sot days I don’t even get around to that. So I don’t really have a magical solution. When I do comment I usually just pick the posts that catch my attention and comment ont hose.
Sweet pepper Hero looks cute, I’ll have to remember to stop by your review later this week. I am off to check out some of those freebies next. Have a great week!

  10. Greg Hill says:

Happy New Year! As for commenting, I use a combination of Bloglovin and just keeping up with the ones I like as best I can. 🙂 Following by email doesn’t work for me because of the problem you identify- inbox gets flooded! It works for me, more or less. I like Bloglovin.

Gift cards are great. Your new books look fun too, I like the cover of Case of the Hidden Flame a lot. Hope you had good weekend.

  11. katarguelles says:

Happy New Year! I also took a break during the holidays and it was nice to get some rest. As for your inbox don’t feel guilty about deleting mail! We are all busy and I have done this if their post doesn’t interest me. I like using the Bloglovin email I receive everyday since it shows me random posts. I also rely on the Sunday Post to visit blogs. I hope you have a great week and enjoy your new books!

  12. tonyalee says:

I change how I follow and comment on blogs, so I wish I had something helpful to add! :/

I love the cove of some of your books – some new to me, so I am going to look!

  13. I follow my top 10 bloggers with my personal email and then I follow another 12-15 with my blogging email. I get to my top ten first and then when/if I have time I will get to the second tier. I also have my regulars from The Sunday Post on Sunday. I also have bloggers that l only follow on Twitter and if I see them tweet about something they posted that interests me, I will go comment. I also do commenting back from my blog. Geesh, that sounds more complicated than it is. Ha ha. I am glad to hear you had some time off. Have a fabulous first week of 2016!

  14. Happy New Year! I didn’t take a break away. I was actually working on setting up my second blog! Whew, what work! Like you, I follow pretty much all the blogs I do via email. It gets very overwhelming. A while back I had the same issue as you with getting around to and commenting on others’ posts, so I did a post on it. I still haven’t figured it out myself. My best suggestion is to comment on discussion posts and memes that support blog hopping (like Sunday Post and Top Ten Tuesday), and then make a choice about how you want to do the rest of the types (reviews, spotlights, etc.) I don’t do a lot of commenting on reviews, and I need to get better about that.

  15. atothewr says:

With my inbox (I hate to do it) I have to pick and choose. If something jumps out at me or if it is a blog I’m loyal to (like yours) I make sure to read those posts. Everything else just gets deleted.

  16. I am hit and miss with emails. Just cannot do them all or I get no blogging done. Still…it takes a long time to pick through them before deleting. That’s why I do memes, but over the holidays I missed everyone and didn’t have a lot of time to “talk”. Will be seeing you all very soon. 🙂

The Wasteland Chronicles cover had me clicking before I got any further. Great picks!

  18. Angelized1st says:

Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed taking some time off. I know I have. Glad to have you back 🙂 I don’t have trouble keeping up with my comments, but I do with other bloggers’ posts. I tried to rectify this by making sure I was following blogs I read regularly on Bloglovin’, so I can have at least 1 place where I can find everyone. We’ll see if this works out. Have a great week!

  19. I’m a Feedly girl. It was more reliable for me than Bloglovin. I have mine all broken down into sections. I have my group of bloggers I visit every day (or want to) and that visit me often, then ones I want to check in on every couple days, ones that I try for once a week and then those I get to if I’ve made it through all of the above. It works WAY quicker for me than getting them via email. It’s nice to be able to mark them read or leave them unread until I’m ready for them 🙂

  20. Happy New Year! I love to read other people’s blogs, but I have to limit the time I spend visiting other blogs. My goal has been to keep it to an hour each morning, but sometimes I don’t have time for that and other times I spend too much time and then don’t do something else I needed to do.

Once again this is one of my goals: an hour a day to visit other blogs and try to visit at least three new blogs each week.

I hope you have a good week and figure out how to comment as much as you want to. If you do let me know your solution!

  21. buffywnabe says:

You got some great books there! I’ll have to go check some of them out. I know what you’re saying about commenting. I’m so busy it seems I rarely get to do what I want. In fact I’m probably spending all night tonight doing that. Part of my problem is that the first half of my school year I had lots of extra time at work to play on my blog and stuff. This time of the year I have lots of new books and things to work on in the library, so not as much time. Hope you have a good week!
