Some chit chat.

I’ve been sitting here staring at my keyboard for at least five minutes waiting for inspiration on what to chat about. LOL I can say the usual. Worked a lot. Read a lot. Binged on Netflix. The weather has warmed up again.

Then it hit me. I drive a lot of the same routes day after day. I’ve become so accustomed to it, I almost don’t remember the drive.

But every now and then I catch a glimpse of the first time I drove through an area. How it looked for the first time.

That was my New years resolution. To stop and smell the roses. And I have and I am doing just that.

Sometimes I can even see my house as others might. Boy do I need to dust. LOL

How about you? Ever catch that elusive glimpse of new?

Got lots of books to share, so let’s get to it!

I’ll be hopping over to check out your Sunday posts so be sure to leave me your link!

  1. Greg Hill says:

It is funny how we take certain things for granted sometimes just because we’re used to them. I’ve done that, really noticed something that must have been there a hundred times before, but now I’m noticing it. LOL.

Binging on Netflix seems to be a common thing. 🙂

Time Square and Strange Magic both look interesting. I like the variety of books you always have. 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’ve seen things I must have driven by a thousand times and never noticed before! How insane is that. Netflix is one of my addictions now:)

  2. Annemieke says:

It’s so easy to do things on automatic pilot and not really look around you, during a drive for instance. So that is a great resolution to maken. 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

It’s scary how many times I’ve driven to work and don’t really remember the drive. And I don’t talk or text!

  3. It’s hard sometimes to stop and smell the roses, Laura! I know what you mean about driving a route you drive often… and it’s almost as if you had an autopilot doing the driving for you. Which is actually kind of scary! I’m glad you’re able to renew your attention and see things differently once more.
You got a lot of great-looking books this week, and I hope they’re all good.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m trying hard to be in the moment this year instead of rushing ahead. And I’m going to get out and do more too.

  4. I know exactly what you mean about driving a route and not actually thinking about doing it! I’m the same on my way into work! Have a great week and happy reading!

  5. I some times have a hard time coming up with something to chat about too. 🙂 I hope you like Outage! 🙂

    Stormi
    Week in Review

    • fuonlyknew says:

It just hit me. I was going to give up. LOL I already reviewed the first Outage book last year. Figured I’d grab the set and my review will be up Monday. Off to grab book four and noticed book five is just released too!

  6. I will have to drop back around for your review of The Martian. I listened to the audiobook. I loved the story, but the narrator took some getting used to. To me he sounded like a voiceover actor for a 50s cleaning liquid commercial. Hehe . I have not seen the moivie yet. Have a wonderful week. 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I want to listen to the audio book now that I’ve read it and seen the movie. Bummer about the narrator but I’ll still give it a go:)

  7. tonyalee says:

I feel like we always take certain things for granted, ya know? I also, always have a hard time on what to write about every week lol it’s always the same. Work sucks, Blogging was fun. bahahaha have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I know just what you mean. This year is going to be different for me. I’m going to get out more. A view of the sunset off the pier is free!

  8. *GASP* I can’t believe you said the D word! That is a vile word in this house. But you did prompt me to get my little swiffer out and to at least do the entertainment center. Stupid guilt. LOL

    • fuonlyknew says:

Oops! LOL The sun came out this weekend and I noticed all the dust! Yikes! I cleaned the oven and did laundry so dusting will be tomorrow:)

  9. I’m the same, I have a twenty two mile drive through what looks like middle earth and all I worry about it making sure I get to work on time!

I have the Stone Man too, to be honest I’d forgot till I saw it here!

    Have a good week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I always wonder why getting in the car means rushing to wherever we are going. I can hardly ever just enjoy the drive:)

  10. danielaark says:

I agree. I wish I’d take the time to REALLY look at the world around me and be in the moment. I’m very ADD so a lot goes unnoticed. As usual, thanks for sharing the freebies! Now off to read your review of the Martian.

  11. Deborah says:

I completely know what you mean! I’m the same as I start my Sunday Posts… thinking… same same and I have to really force myself to think about what I’ve done. It’s probably good for that reason – makes me pay attention and FIND something interesting I’ve done.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I can’t see it that way all the time because I have to watch where I’m going. LOL But I do catch new glimpses a lot.

  12. Hmmm, I’ve never really thought about how places look to people who aren’t accustomed to them once I am used to them. I’m going to try to do that now. You have motivated me lol.

I downloaded Strange Magic this week! I was so excited because it was on my TBR. Then I may have bought the next two books since they were each on sale for $0.99 even though I haven’t read the first one yet… I don’t normally do that, but I figured it can’t be that bad, especially for $2 total.

    • fuonlyknew says:

Sometimes it happens because I’m not thinking about what I’m seeing. I love a fresh view of everyday things.
The author has another book that goes with the series. It was free so you might want to check him out on Amazon. I love Yancy!

  13. I recently remembered the feeling I had when I first drove to my new job and how proud I was that day. I was proud to work there all over again. It’s definitely worth trying to see things for the first time again. Life goes by so fast we sometimes forget to enjoy every minute of it.
I’m really curious to read your thoughts about ‘A Storm of Secrets’!
    Have a great week 😉

    • fuonlyknew says:

It brings me joy and some peace when it works. And living in the moment, even when it’s not all rosy, does make me stronger, less stressed.
My review for A Storm Of Secrets goes up tomorrow.

  14. Heidi says:

I know what you mean about not paying attention to the roads you drive everyday. I will have to be more alert. Wow. That’s a lot of freebies. I am going to grab a couple. Have a wonderful week.

    • fuonlyknew says:

Now that I’ve been working on it, it also works in my home. Something as simple as seeing my kitchen. It makes me want to change somethings now. LOL

  15. Glad you enjoyed The Martian! My son has it and I can read it whenever, so I should definitely get to it!
I understand what you say about noticing something new for the first time, though it’s the hundredth time. A great philosophy– we should stop and smell the roses if we can!

  16. Lola says:

If you’re accustomed to places or things it’s hard to see them like you did for the first time or how a stranger would see them. Nice haul you got this week! I hope you’ll enjoy your new books and have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

If I try, it’s harder. It’s when I’m not really thinking about it that I see things like for the first time. It’s becoming easier now though.

  17. As I sit here and look around, I need to dust as well. Thanks for the reminder to not take for granted the interesting and beautiful things around us! Have a great week of reading.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m still not done dusting. It seems like as soon as I’m done I need to do it again. LOL
And I’m enjoying slowing down and looking, really looking.

  18. Melissa (My World...in words and pages) says:

My drive to work isn’t that long. So I don’t usually see much new. But we always seem to be rushing more than anything with all that’s been going on lately. So maybe when things slow a bit, we’ll see more new things from not looking for a few weeks. 🙂

    Enjoy all your new reads!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I know. It seems like the moment we get behind the wheel, we want to already be where we are going. LOL Hard to slow down and just be in the moment these days.

  19. Kathy says:

That’s a great resolution. We are so busy that we don’t stop and appreciate what we have. Thanks for sharing the freebies and I’ve grabbed some! Have a great week!

  20. Loving all the books. 🙂

  21. Naomi Hop says:

I live in farming area, I drove past a paddock and had a double look because the maze wasn’t that tall last week!
Huge haul Laura! Enjoy each and every one of them!
