My Review

Adrian and Caroline Cole are living their dream. They bought the Civil War era house, Willowwind, and turned it into a cozy bed and breakfast. Things couldn’t be better.

Until…Something stars attacking the guests. Something from the old cemetary that abuts the grounds. The woman in crimson, Lilith, a vampire who believes Adrian is her long lost lover.

What was a dream come true turns into a nightmare as guests start dying. Forced to close the  inn, Caroline has to believe Adrian. Has to be Lilith is real. And they have to join forces with a neighbor and a medium to rid them selves of her deadly presence, or lose everything, including their lives.

Having read many of Kathryn’s books, I knew I’d be in for a terrific read. The atmosphere starts out light and steadily grows darker. People start to die. Lilith grows hungrier, angrier.

I couldn’t help but feel bad for Adrian and Caroline. They’re living their dream. It all goes south. And a vampire, ghost will not stop until she gets what she wants.

In the beginning, I kind of felt sorry for Lilith. She had a sad story. But when she’s awakened again, she’s no longer human, and loses that side of herself. Growing darker and more malevolent. When she started killing off people to feed, I lost all sympathy. I really liked some of her victims.

I also felt sorry for Adrian. Once he came under attack from Lilith, he tried hard to convince his wife that she was real. But Caroline is a see it to believe it kind of gal and it took some horrific events to turn her around.

Throw in the grumpy farmer trying to shake loose from his mother’s apron strings, and a renowned medium that looks like a bag lady, and this story takes hold of you.

As usual, the author spares no character. You never know who will make it to the end. And she adds little twists to keep your emotions shifting about those characters.

She also gives you a truly nasty villain. One you feel torn about. That is, until she goes off the deep end and does some very nasty deeds. In the end, I wanted Lilith dead, for good this time.

When I was a teenager, I used to spend my summer vacations exploring abandoned house with my best friend and her father. I never ran into any ghost, but some of those houses had a disturbing vibe to them. Who knows what might have been lurking, watching. I felt that chill when reading this book.

Looking for a scary good haunted house story. Grab a copy of this book. You’ll get everything you’re looking for and then some. I’d love to know what you think of the ending.

Synopsis

Sometimes love lasts forever…but maybe it shouldn’t. Willowwind, a beautiful Civil War era bed and breakfast, is run by a loving couple, Adrian and Caroline Stone, but it’s also haunted by a long-dead Civil War era vampiress, Lilith, who believes the man, Adrian, is her reincarnated soldier/lover and will do anything to have him, body-heart-and soul, for her own again, no matter how many she must kill. But Adrian’s wife, Caroline, along with the help of the ghost of her dead father, will do anything to make sure that doesn’t happen.

About Author Kathryn Meyer Griffith

Photo_black_cap

Since childhood I’ve been an artist and worked as a graphic designer in the corporate world and for newspapers for twenty-three years before I quit to write full time. But I’d already begun writing novels at 21, over forty-four years ago now, and have had twenty-two (ten romantic horror, two horror novels, two romantic SF horror, one romantic suspense, one romantic time travel, one historical romance, two thrillers, and four murder mysteries) previous novels, two novellas and twelve short stories published from Zebra Books, Leisure Books, Avalon Books, The Wild Rose Press, Damnation Books/Eternal Press; and I’ve self-published my last ten novels with Amazon Kindle Direct and my Dinosaur Lake novels and Spookie Town Mysteries (Scraps of Paper, All Things Slip Away and Ghosts Beneath Us) are my best-sellers.

I’ve been married to Russell for thirty-seven years; have a son and two grandchildren and I live in a small quaint town in Illinois, which is right across the JB Bridge from St. Louis, Mo. We have a quirky cat, Sasha, and the three of us live happily in an old house in the heart of town. Though I’ve been an artist, and a folk/classic rock singer in my youth with my brother Jim, writing has always been my greatest passion, my butterfly stage, and I’ll probably write stories until the day I die…or until my memory goes.

  1. No way! Thanks for the giveaway!

  2. debby236 says:

I have visited many haunted houses and gone on tours but alas they were quiet nights.
    debby236 at gmail dot com

    • fuonlyknew says:

I hope to go on some haunted tours in New Orleans next time I visit. That would be fun and I would be in a crowd. LOL

  3. Sandra Watts says:

Well, when I was a kid we used to go to a house that was vacant just down the road. It was really eerie looking. We would dare each other to knock on the door and then everyone ran. I don’t know that it was haunted for sure but when people finally moved in they said they had seen things happen there. Who knows for sure?! As for ghosts, I have never seen one but that isn’t to say they don’t exist.

  4. Taylor Dean says:

Well, not really. But when I visited the Hayes Mansion in San Jose, California–long before it was restored–it sure felt like it was haunted. It was creepy as anything in there and I sure didn’t want to wander around by myself. Now it’s a hotel–and I would NEVER stay there. Is it just my imagination? Who knows?!

    • fuonlyknew says:

My mom used to stay at The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island every year. She actually got the room they used for the movie Somewhere In Time with Christopher Reeves. My mom was hoping to have something happen but nothing did. Who knows what’s watching us. I loved Lancaster House and The Middle Aisle. Still favorites of mine. Did that mansion play a part in your books?

  5. Thank you Laura (as always) for the lovely review and giveaway of my book THE WOMAN IN CRIMSON…as I recently got its full rights back from my last publisher (yeah!) and finally self-published it; with a great new cover from Dawne Dominique. As long as I was with that last publisher I didn’t push the book. But I’m really pushing it now for more reviews. In fact I got the last 14 books (of my 22) back last year from my last publisher and re-released every one. So happy!
Hey, talking about real ghosts…I actually saw a real ghost when I was 16. It was my German born Great Aunt Mary the night before her funeral. It scared me but to this day I still have a hard time believing I saw and heard (she was talking in German, which I didn’t understand and was in a ball of light) a real spirit – but I did.
    rdgriff@htc.net

    • fuonlyknew says:

What makes it so real is she spoke in German! They say ghosts communicate in strange ways. I love the new covers for your books. Dawne did a fabulous job with this one. It’s perfect for the descriptions inside! Brings it to life.

  6. I grew up in a haunted house. That was the first haunted house I experienced. michelle_willms at yahoo dot com.

  7. Amanda Price says:

I’ve never been in a haunted house that I know of, though growing up our front door used to swing open by itself and we took to saying it was our friendly resident ghost named Henry.

  8. Jacqueline Kingston says:

Only in my dreams. I can see it in my mind’s eye as if it stood before me. It is a Medieval structure jutting over the top of a mountain and giving the appearance of a cairn. It seemed to contained the bowels of hell and there was no sign of life around the building. It was a if a clan of Grim Reapers resided there. Each step closer made me want to turn back and run as if I was being chased by an army of ghouls. As I reached the door My hand grasped the icy cold knocker and my heart seemed to freeze from contact. My cousin with dead eyes opened the door.

  9. Laura
I did write a book set on Mackinac Island, come to think of it. The Ice Bridge, a murder mystery that has the main character compiling a book of island ghost stories, so the novel is embedded with them. For our 25th anniversary my husband and I spent 6 days on the island-that-allows-no-cars and we had both the tourist brunch and the High Tea in the Grand Hotel. Didn’t see no ghosts, though. Darn. I always tell my husband that we have to go back to stay one more night on the island and spring for a night at the Grand Hotel (it’s really expensive) and then I’ll write another ghost story about it. Grin. I LOVE Mackinac Island!

    • fuonlyknew says:

How did I miss that one! Going to have to read The Ice Bridge now! It’s been many a year since I’ve been to the island but my mother says it’s still the same. I like the ferry ride over too.

  10. Theresa Van Spankeren says:

The book sounds interesting. Yes, I have been in haunted places before, including a haunted house…or two.

  11. If the house was haunted I didn’t know it. Fantastic review Laura!

  12. Heather says:

Have and would again. Lived in one for several years. That was some fun times and no one would stay over or late cause of it.
    Heatherchargualaf@ymail.com

  13. I’ve lived in a few houses that were haunted on their own. Most of the time it’s me or someone I live with who is haunted as the ghosts are more attached/attracted to the people than the house. (The perils of living with people who can see/hear spirits. They never leave you alone) jolie_b@joliebonnette.com

  14. Jennifer says:

Cool giveaway!! I would love to win this book (preferably ebook) to answer your question: according to my daughter and my fiancé I might be living in a haunted house! They both have heard the voice of a little girl calling their names.. And my daughter has seen some strange and spooky things in our house!! (Skin-men she calls them.. Yikes!!) I kinda wish I would hear or see something though.. Although maybe not the skinmen..

  15. Meredith Miller says:

Once as a kid we went to a haunted house (one that’s set up for thrills). My aunt’s house was also known locally to be haunted.

  16. babyblue7299 says:

I just love spooky tales! This sounds great! Loved your review! I’ve never lived in a haunted house, but I did have a house that had a haunted garage (the former owner’s wife committed suicide there) I swear, I would hear an engine running sometimes…maybe because I tore out her landscaping? Painted her walls? Tore out her hideous linoleum? next house, we built…only had the ghost of a bat
    babyblue7299@yahoo.com

  17. Back in the 80s I was part of a paranormal research group. We explored a haunted house. We took photos, made measurements, and psychics communicated with the spirits via a Ouija board. We had phenomena not unlike the Amityville horror. Well, not so much blood on the walls.

  18. Oh yes and I felt something walk right through me.

  19. Thought I commented on here but now I am not sure and didn’t see my name but I haven’t been in a haunted house but I did sleep in a haunted hotel. 🙂 Nothing happened but it was hard to sleep after they take you on a haunted tour and feel you mind with all the scary stuff and then send you off to bed…lol.

  20. Ron says:

Been to an allegedly haunted house. Nothing happened.

  21. Megan says:

Yes! I stayed over at a house to watch someone’s dogs and the lights went on in one of the other rooms. When I turned it off and went back in there it was on again. Then I heard something fall in the hallway and the linen closet was open and all of the towels were on the floor. It wasn’t the dogs because they were with me. Also one of the dogs kept looking through a glass door into another room and growling. I told the owners and they said “Oh we didn’t want to mention it because we thought you wouldn’t want to stay with the dogs but we have a ghost. She likes the linen closet. Don’t worry she’s not malicious.”
    msa3179 at aol dot com

    • fuonlyknew says:

How nice of them not to warn you. I think you’re great for staying with the dogs even after all of the goings on.

  22. Shellie Johnson says:

Been in several haunted houses over the years. Love them!! mspaints@sbcglobal.net

  23. tressanne says:

Thank you for giving this away!!

  24. Robert Krone says:

I have never been to true haunted house, but I wish I’d been able to, possibly even spent the night in one! Because of MS, it wouldn’t really be possible unless I got a hold of a wheelchair and someone pushed me. 🙁 email address is robertkrone@gmail.com

  25. Pamela Morton says:

no havent been in one at all. p_dewolfe at yahoo . ca

  26. I believe I lived in a haunted mobile home at one point.

  27. Lesley says:

you can reach me at honestlysimplereviews@gmail.com and no I’ve never been in a haunted house before but I’m sure I’ve seen a ghost once.

  28. claudette.melanson@me.com

I actually lived in a house with a poltergeist. It would move things and turn on lights. This was only for a few months in college and my only experience with this.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Hmm. makes me wonder who the poltergeist came from. Perhaps yourself? And I wonder if I ever conjured one. Had lots of similar experiences over the years when I was under a lot of stress.

  29. Mary Lou Hardy says:

no I’ve never been in a haunted house

  30. Maggie says:

Hi. I’ve been in some eerie houses and places but not sure if they were haunted or not. Would be interesting one day to go into a haunted house. Not sure if I’d last or not. 🙂

  31. tressanne says:
