Summary from Goodreads:

***FINALIST in the National Indie Excellence Awards for Young Adult Fiction 2016***

Can Michael get to heaven before the devil gets him first, and if it means leaving Sarah is he sure he still wants to go?

Michael Andrews had everything – a loving family, a great girlfriend and a promising basketball career. That was before the accident that took his life. Now, he’s a ghost, wandering among the living, struggling to understand why he’s stuck. All he wants is to move on.

That is until he meets Sarah, an attractive young girl who died just as tragically as he did. The only trouble is falling in love and binding oneself to another soul is forbidden, for it may keep one or both of the souls bound to earth for longer than they should be.

To make matters worse, there’s also a danger in going too far with Sarah, because the “joining” of two souls in the afterlife is also strictly forbidden and they don’t know what will happen if they do go that far. Each time they touch they can feel the boundaries of their energies slipping perilously into one another.

Things get even more complicated as Michael learns he’s being pursued. Demons are after him because he’s a marked soul, a soul the devil wants very badly for some unknown reason.

So, maybe falling in love in the afterlife isn’t such a good idea.

THE GHOST CHRONICLES by Marlo Berliner is a YA paranormal with romantic elements and adult crossover appeal, perfect for fans of If I Stay and the movie, Ghost. The book was inspired by the legend of a haunting at the Angel of the Sea bed and breakfast in Cape May, NJ.

Enjoy this glimpse inside the book.

Michael walked on and on, further south and deeper into the Pine Barrens. Mostly gliding along, he barely touched the road now. As he went, he discovered the darkness was the same in death, as it had been in life – limitless, impenetrable, and unnerving. His eyes didn’t need to adjust, for he no longer had that physical issue. Yet, the inky darkness surrounding him was growing ever blacker by the moment. A twinge of fear crept over him. Is it my imagination, or is this forest closing in around me?

Still, he pressed on and after a few moments, his fearfulness struck him as funny. His knee tried to wiggle, but he tensed his leg in response. He let out a chuckle. Why should I be scared? I’m the ghost!

No matter how he tried to joke about it though, he couldn’t shake the feeling someone, or something, was watching him from the darkness. He stopped and stood stock-still, listening.

A malevolent murmuring rushed through the trees, coming from not only one source, but oddly, from all around him. Was it simply the voice of the wind talking to him in whispers? Or, something else?

The further he went, the worse the feeling became. An oppressive heaviness hung in the air around him, clawing at his throat like a tightening noose.

The whispering grew louder.

Detecting movement out of the corner of his eye, he spun around to see shadows moving and swirling behind him. All his energy now trembled with a distinct sense of danger, and for the first time in his afterlife, he was afraid.

Very afraid.

Afraid of the dark.

And he began to fly.

  1. Ooh this sounds interesting! I like reading about ghosts as paranormal creatures. And I love the cover, except, I’m kind of torn. I love it, but it also kinda bothers me that the lights look so fake lol.

  5. Sounds interesting! And I’m intrigued by the connection to Angel by the Sea. My folks stayed there when they visited Cape May.
