Genre: YA Fantasy

My Teaser from page 49 in the paperback.

Beneath these photos were five more that Grandpa Portman had never shown me….Even my grandfather, who’d filled my head with stories of tentacle-tongued monsters, had realized images like these would give any kid nightmares.

Synopsis

A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of curious photographs.

A horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

Here’s the edition I own. It’s filled with illustrations and pictures from the movie.

Both covers are fun. Which do you like?

Is it just me or does anyone else think “The Shining” from that first picture? She just reminds me of the twins at the end of that hallway. Sounds like a deliciously scary book! (I’m working on a Teaser Tuesday…but it’ll probably be a couple of hours.)

  2. P.D. Workman says:

This is one that has been on my TBR list for a while!

Mine this week is from Stephanie Meyer’s new release: https://wp.me/p3Nz8P-1a4 Thanks for stopping by to visit it!

  3. Maff says:

Oooh I actually just finished reading this 🙂 And I had no idea til I was done that it’s the first of a trilogy.

I like the second cover…and now I think I should watch movie 🙂

  4. Beth F says:

I’ve been meaning to read this too — one of these days, eh?

  5. I have still yet to read this one. I did watch the movie and really enjoyed it.

I think I like the first cover better – spookier looking. It’s a pretty good book. Thanks for coming by my teaser.

  7. Katherine P says:

I’ll have to check out the movie edition. Normally I don’t like movie tie-ins but this one looks fun. I’m hoping to read The Hollow this year as I really enjoyed this one but I’m thinking about going back and doing the audio on this as a refresher.

    • fuonlyknew says:

That would be fun. I could read the book, listen to the audible, watch the movie, and review all three!

  8. mysm2000 says:

I’ve heard mixed things about this book — wildly diverse things. Your teaser and summary have definitely made me want to know more. Thanks for sharing. Here’s my link to today’s post: http://wp.me/p4DMf0-1ra

  9. You know I started this book when it first came out, then for some reason never finished it, but I really need too! 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m almost finished. Then I’ll watch the movie and review both together like I did with The Martian.

  10. I have been eyeing this book since it first came out…and now, with the movie, I am even more curious. I haven’t decided, though; it sounds fascinating, creepy, and maybe a little scary. Do I want to read it? Maybe…but I do want to know more.

    Here’s mine: “FAULTLINES”

  11. I’ve seen this book on lots of blogs and keep thinking I’ll read it. Although I don’t often read fantasy, this one sounds like a fascinating story.
My Tuesday post features Letters From Paris.

  12. I’ve had this book on my stacks for way too long! Want to read it before I see the movie.

  13. Paulita says:

I’ve seen previews for t his movie but never realized it was a book first. Hope you enjoy. Here’s Mine

  14. Alice Audrey says:

I like that second cover. Kind of makes me think of X-men.

  15. charliegirl says:

I really do like the movie cover edition better. The other ones freak me out too much that I avoided ever reading them. :/

    • fuonlyknew says:

There’s something about creepy, simple covers though. I can’t resist those. LOL I’ll probably stick with the movie editions as that’s what I got for the first one. Now, crossing fingers they make movies for the other books. LOL

  16. Eustacia Tan says:

Personally, I prefer the original cover better!

I hope you’re enjoying the book – I really liked it!

  17. I have seen so much about this one it makes me want to read it. Looks like a lot of fun. Looking forward to your review.
