This is my own version of a weekly book haul and all things new on fuonlyknew.

I’m also linking up with The Sunday Post hosted by Kimberly @Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

Sunday Post

Some chit chat.

It seems like the weather is a HOT topic these days. LOL Here in the south we have a saying, “If you don’t like the weather, stick around, it’ll change.” That sure rings true. Christmas was freezing cold. Now it’s in the 70s, the sun is shining, and I’m longing for summer. This won’t last. Winter here is tricky. I know February will be cold, and we always get a few surprise blasts in March. But my plants don’t seem to know that. Some are starting to come up, some are trying to bloom, and some are growing leaves already. I hope the blasts of cold to come don’t kill them as I have big plans for planting this spring.

A quick question. Do any of you have suggestions? I want to plant a few miniature fruit trees. Just not sure what to get. I have an orange tree and it’s loaded up right now. I need something to fill a few empty spaces.

  1. Greg Hill says:

Oh I’d love some 70’s! That’s only about 50 or so degrees warmer than we are lol. Although at least it warmed up enough to melt some snow this week.

Horizon Alpha looks fun! And that cover of Returning caught my eye too. Yay for freebies.

    • fuonlyknew says:

It’s still warm here. Expecting some rain later in the week and a small cool down the beginning of next week. I’m loving this:)

  2. Yeah, weather be crazy. For me it was hot on Christmas, then this past week we had some chilliness, now it’s hot again. Sorry, don’t have any suggestions for fruit trees :-/ When I was a kid we had lime trees and then they all had to be cut down when there was some tree infection in the city or state or something. Fresh-squeezed lime-ade was tasty though!

    • fuonlyknew says:

It’s maintaining a warm trend for now. I’ll probably consult with my local nursery about which trees to plant. I want something that flowers and keeps its leaves in the winter.

  3. You got some amazing books I need to check them out more. It’s been so cold here we had snow this week. I need some heat. Have a great week.

    Megan @reading away the days

  4. Yay! It’s great that you are getting some warm weather where you live! And that’s a lot of lovely books you got!

    Here’s my Sunday Post!

  5. I already have Horizon Alpha on the tbr as I can never resist dinosaurs! I’m hoping to start a garden with herbs, fruit and vegetables but I’m a total novice and barely know where to start! I need to get the gardening books out and start planning it!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I love dinosaurs too. Such a great cover! I’m trying not to get started on planting too soon. This weather won’t last and I don’t want to plant something and have a freeze kill it before it’s good and rooted.

  6. sjhigbee says:

Those temperature swings must be a nightmare for your garden plants! I’m loathe to offer advice as our climate, soil etc is so very different… I do have a nut tree which is great as I always get a good crop of hazel nuts – lovely and sweet – and as it’s a twisted nut it looks fab throughout the winter minus its leaves and lovely in spring with the catkins. Not sure if it would thrive in your climate though. I know what you mean about books… I had some tokens and have already loaded up the Kindle with MORE books! Have a great week, Laura:) My Sunday Post – https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2017/01/15/sunday-post-15th-january-2017/

    • fuonlyknew says:

I had a chestnut tree at my old house. They were prickly shelled and hurt to step on. I have several Pecan trees, but want something small that also flowers.

  7. It was 70 this week on Wednesday but changed almost as quickly as it came. We are about 30 right now and only warming to about 40 today. The weather really need to get it together.

I am hoping to do a garden this year. I would love to plant trees but I don’t have the room. Maybe one day when I get a house I will. That would be awesome!

Have a great week, Laura! Happy Reading! ox

    • fuonlyknew says:

I have lots of spaces that need filing and I love trees. Figured some miniature fruit trees would be perfect. Now to decide which ones. My orange tree loves the cold, maybe more of those?

  8. The weather is so crazy, we had ice, then rain and now it will be in the 50’s and 60’s this week…I am done and ready for spring. 🙂

At least I am not the only one who has broke their, I am not going to get this or that…I should never say it cause I can’t help myself…lol. It’s an addiction. 🙂 Your not helping with your go HERE for free books….lol. Your so bad, bad. 🙂

    Have a great week!

  9. Sunny here in Spain, but with a strong chilly wind so I’m staying huddled inside!
Love that The Foreboding First book cover 🙂

  10. Berls says:

Yeah the weather is screwing with us too. We had freezing weather and snow the week before last, then this week we steadily climbed up to the 70s. Then Friday we got downpours of rain and with it the weather dropped into the 40s. I hope we don’t keep dropping, I DO NOT like the cold. I hope your plants survive! Have a great week and happy reading!

    • fuonlyknew says:

We got some rain but no cool down. It’s supposed to rain later this week, but still stay warm. I’ll take it!

  11. charliegirl says:

Yes. I think February is going to get quite cold. We had a peach tree growing up. My mom loved it.

    • fuonlyknew says:

We had a crab apple tree. I used to climb it and sit to read. I don’t think the climate is right for them here though. I also have a Persimmon tree but it’s old and won’t last much longer.

  12. Deborah says:

I can’t help you on the fruit tree front I’m sorry!

I’m doing the opposite re the weather. I’m thinking, “Well, it’s nearly February so it SHOULD start cooling down then for Autumn in March…”

    • fuonlyknew says:

It always throws me when someone mentions summer when it’s winter here. LOL Not used to it feeling like summer when it should be cold. I’ll take it!

  13. I always love looking at your books to see what mix of genres you grabbed. I’m with you on the weather. It keeps dropping 20 degrees to the 50s and then a week later it’s in the 70s and then repeats. It’s done that three weeks in a row now, which is kind of crazy. I can’t complain though, since the weather is still really nice. That’s an Arizona winter for you. 🙂

  14. Lelia T says:

I love me some dinosaurs so I really want to know what you think of Horizon Alpha when you get around to it 😉

Also, I have a rose bush that has bloomed about 15 times since last spring. Here in Richmond, it’s 36 one day, 72 two days later. I’ll take the 72, thank you very much.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I saw that dino on the cover and snatched it right up. LOL I finally had to dig up my rose bushes. They were old when I moved in and finally stopped producing.

  15. Enjoy your books! I stopped grabbing most of the free books I saw, as I found I never seemed to get around to reading them! If I haven’t read the author, or heard good things about the book, I know I probably won’t read it. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised, though.

Thanks for sharing…and for visiting my blog.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I did check these out before grabbing them. The authors have other books I might like too:) I’m reading a lot of books that aren’t review requests and it’s been relaxing.

  16. katarguelles says:

I would love our weather to be in the 70’s again. It’s been really cold and raining. I know I complain now and will complain again when it gets too hot here lol. Good luck with the planting. I do not have a green thumb and plants have died under my care lol. But we do have a lemon and tangerine bush that have been doing really good (it’s because of my husband lol). The Tag Team event sounds fun so I’ll have to stop by. Have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I try not to complain over our brutal summer heat. It’s better than cold! LOL I’m going to check about the tangerine tree. It might do good here. Thanks!

  17. We had a small pear tree at our old apartment. The pears were kind of gritty textured for eating fresh, but they made wonderful pear butter and the blossoms were beautful. I used to bring some twigs in every Easter time and force them out for a buffet centerpiece. I went light on the ebooks too. Ha ha. Have a wonderful week. 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I tried growing lilacs but they didn’t do good here. Used to love to cut blossoms and place them all over the house. I’ll probably check the nursery and see what they suggest.

  18. Melissa (My World...in words and pages) says:

Oh my. We had one day last week that was like spring here! I was afraid that the flowers would start blooming. It’s barely even started winter here! lol.

    • fuonlyknew says:

Our winters aren’t long. It’s usually a couple of days of cold, then it warms up, then it cools down…..LOL I’m getting spring fever!

  19. Why oh why did I visit this page? I just grabbed 4 books and am off to check out the freebies. “But they were cheap” my mind says….and my finger just clicked away!

  20. I’m in Texas and our weather is doing that exact thing. We fit so many seasons into one week with snow and 12 degrees one day to 70 degrees and rain later in the week. I haven’t seen a lot of these that you picked up so I’ll have to check them out.

  21. LOL freebies really are hard to resist. 😀 The weather here is a bit wacky, too. It’s amazing how fast it can change. Hope you’re having a great week!

  22. Fab weather for sure!!!!!
