Welcome to The Friday 56 hosted by Freda’s Voice.
This is a really fun meme!
The only rules are to grab a book (any book), turn to page 56 or 56% in your eReader and find a sentence or a few (no spoilers) that grabs you and post it.
Then go over to Freda’s Voice and leave your link so we can visit your 56!
My 56 for this week is from:
The Roanoke Girls
by Amy Engel
Genre: Mystery / Thriller
My 56 from the hardcover.
Sharon laughs, a hoarse little cackle, when she sees my face. “What? Did I hurt your feelings? Are you going to tell on me?
I couldn’t believe it when I won this book. It’s so my kind of story and I’m itching to get started on it. Hey….. it’s supposed to rain this weekend, so guess what I’ll be doing! LOL

Read on if you want to know more.
Synopsis
Roanoke girls never last long around here. In the end, we either run or we die.
After her mother’s suicide, fifteen year-old Lane Roanoke came to live with her grandparents and fireball cousin, Allegra, on their vast estate in rural Kansas. Lane knew little of her mother’s mysterious family, but she quickly embraced life as one of the rich and beautiful Roanoke girls. But when she discovered the dark truth at the heart of the family, she ran fast and far away.
Eleven years later, Lane is adrift in Los Angeles when her grandfather calls to tell her Allegra has gone missing. Did she run too? Or something worse? Unable to resist his pleas, Lane returns to help search, and to ease her guilt at having left Allegra behind. Her homecoming may mean a second chance with the boyfriend whose heart she broke that long ago summer. But it also means facing the devastating secret that made her flee, one she may not be strong enough to run from again.
As it weaves between Lane’s first Roanoke summer and her return, The Roanoke Girls shocks and tantalizes, twisting its way through revelation after mesmerizing revelation, exploring the secrets families keep and the fierce and terrible love that both binds them together and rips them apart.

I can’t wait to hear what you think when you’ve finished 😉
I was going to wait until this weekend to start it but couldn’t help myself and started reading it last night. The writing is good and I’m just now getting to where I have an idea what might be happening. Not what I expected.
This sounds like a fantastic story.
I hope it is!
I am curious to hear your thoughts on this one because I have heard a lot of negatives about it. Enough to know it’s not my kind of read…lol.

I started it last night and just now got to where I have an idea what’s going on. I can see why some might not be happy with it. I do think there’s more surprises. We’ll see.

I’m not sure I like Sharon from that excerpt. I’ve seen this one floating around. It always feels good to win a book. Happy reading!
Not much to like about her. You got that right.
She doesn’t sound like a very nice person with that wicked laugh.
Nope. Definitely not a nice lady.
Wow–that sounds like a great book!
It’s what ya call a page turner. LOL
The second 56 I have read from this book this week. Both different and both engaging!! Happy weekend!
