This is my own version of a weekly book haul and all things new on fuonlyknew.

I’m also linking up with The Sunday Post hosted by Kimberly @Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

Sunday Post

Some chit chat.

It’s July! And do you know what that means? Shark Week returns. I don’t know why, but I love watching the shows and movies about sharks. Especially when people get eaten. And I know I’m not alone.

I never miss a shark movie. From campy B-movie stock on the Scy Fy Channel, to the classics like Jaws. Some favorites are the Sharknado series. It’s okay. You can admit you like them too. I won’t tell. LOL Others are Deep Blue Sea and all of the movies where they cross sharks with other creatures, like Sharktopus.

Some good serious movies were The Reef, Open Waters, and The Shallows. And that brings me to the ones I’m anticipating watching soon.

47 Meters Down. Whoa! I can’t believe this hasn’t already happened. Check out the trailers. Yep, be sure to watch both of them back to back.

See! This is why I have a pool and don’t swim in the ocean anymore. It would be just my luck. Or should I say my bad luck.

And MEG. I love Steve Alten’s Meg series and been waiting several years for the movie. It will be out next year and I can’t wait. A great cast too! If you haven’t read the books yet, I urge you to get started.

And in honor of Shark Week, which starts soon, here’s a collection you might want to check out. I loved these! Carolyn rights some good ones and I also love her dinosaur set.  Lots of running, screaming…..munch, munch, munch!

  1. Great haul! Enjoy your books. I like the look of Sunny Side Up. Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog. Have a great weekend.

  2. Greg Hill says:

Ooh Nightstruck and Night Magic. I read Nightstruck last year and it was pretty fun, I haven’t read the sequel yet though. And MEG- that’s a very big shark. 🙂 I love the craziness of Sharknado and Sharktopus lol… that cracks me up. I saw The Shallows and it wasn’t bad.

Love that little shark graphic. 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I admit that Jenna got me with her covers first. They are fabulous. And yep, I love the goofy shark movies. LOL

  3. Christine says:

I LOVE Shark Week. It’s one of my favorite parts about summer. I look forward to it every year. I don’t even care if they replay the same episodes every year, I watch it all day long if I can! I still haven’t seen The Shallows or 47 Meters Down but I really want to. They both look so good! Glad to see I’m not the only one completely obsessed with sharks and shark facts and attacks. Thanks for all the links to free ebooks! I’ll have to go through and look at them 🙂 Happy reading!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I watch some of the reruns too. And there’s all kinds of other shows besides Shark Week. Some of them are even better.

  4. Oooh! Shark Week! That reminds that I need to rewatch the Sharknado series again!

    Here’s my Sunday Post!

Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog and join in this week’s Book Photo Sundays!

    • fuonlyknew says:

LOL That’s what I;ll be doing this coming weekend. I have all of them and a bunch of other shark movies too.

  5. Maree says:

I always root for the sharks. Always. Have a great week 🙂

  6. Haha, I’m not so big on shark movies. Not so big on violence at all! Adrenaline makes me a shaking mess 😀 I can’t even play video games! Hands shaking so bad that I’d drop anything I’m holding 😀

  7. sjhigbee says:

Ahhh – are you a fan of the shark gorefest films? I’m looking forward to Sharknado 5, it looks wonderfully ludicrous, but it will have to go some to beat my alltime favourite Avalanche Shark which has me laughing till I cry… Hope you enjoy your reading this week Laura and many thanks for your constant support – you rock! My Sunday Post – https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2017/07/09/sunday-post-9th-july-2017/

    • fuonlyknew says:

I love Sharknado! I’m trying to guess what kind of shark attack they will come up with the next. I love how they blend in things from other movies.

I should say the same to you, Sarah. I enjoy stopping by for a visit every day. Who knows, maybe some day we’ll meet in person!

  8. My youngest can’t wait for shark week, she loves them! But I’m only letting her watch the educational ones, no gore for her!! Have a good week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Good for you. I think I snuck in some shows that I was way too young for and still scared of those things. Like clowns! Seriously. LOL

  9. You and Barb would get along great as she is in a huge Shark mood right now…lol. That set isn’t free any more pooh. 🙁 That movie is why this girl will never ever get in a shark cage. 🙂 I don’t mind some shark films but some of that stuff is just to over the top like Sharknado, everyone likes them but me. I don’t think I have sat through an entire one when dad watches them.

I have always wanted to read Meg, it’s on my wishlist and that movie looks like it will be cool. 🙂 I have a shark book to read called Shark Island that I need to get to soon.

    Have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I know. I loved her post! Dang, I wish it was still free. Save it though. It will be free agian. She’s always offering her books for free. Check them out. She has some awesome dinosaur ones too!
Are you and Barb doing a buddy read for Shark Island. That cover lured me right in and I’m waiting on your review to see if I should go ahead and grab it.

  10. Yay shark week!! I don’t have cable or anything anymore so I haven’t watched any of the shark week stuff in YEARS but I used to love watching all the specials on Discovery. I loved the Discovery channel though!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I bet you can find the shows on your computer. I can’t see them not using that avenue to share. The Discovery Channel and National Geographic are awesome channels.

  11. Trin Carl says:

Oh my mom hates Jaws as far as shark movies go. I love it though. #sundaypost

  12. Sharks. *shudders* Nope, sorry, not for me, thanks. Have fun, though! And have a great week enjoying some of those new books. 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I know what you mean. I still wonder why I’m drawn to movies and books about them when I won’t even swim in their environment anymore.

  13. I’ve always loved Jaws 1 & 2. I don’t count the 3d one as part of that franchise. LOL

    • fuonlyknew says:

The third one was horrible. LOL The fourth one is a waste of time too. So implausible though I did like the actors.

  14. Yvonne says:

I haven’t seen many shark movies, except for the Jaws movies, of course. Those I enjoyed and have seen several times. I have a couple of those books too. i really want to try Cindy Bell’s books. They look like good cozies. Have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Stay tuned. Shark Week draws near and television will be flooded with movies about sharks. I always look forward to the cheesy ones. LOL

And I love cozies. Never have enough of them.

  15. I do a big PBL project called Shark Week. The kids have to answer the driving question with multiple points of research. Two years ago my kids got really invested. They were meeting at any restaurant all over town that had wifi to work. This year we all learned that sharks have electromagnetic sensors in their noses that make them hyper aware, and our electrical stimuli could be what attracts sharks to certain individuals (and why they bite cages).

    • fuonlyknew says:

How awesome! Lucky kids:) I’m trying to remember those sensors on their snouts. Something lorenzini? I know they are stimulated by electrical charges. That’s why they have never been able to keep a Great White in captivity. They keep bumping the sides of the tank and they eventually have to release them.

  16. Nope. No. Nope. My Dad allowed us to watch Jaws at way too early an age and it left me horribly fearful. I love the ocean but keep close to the shore.

    • fuonlyknew says:

After watching Jaws I moved to the coast and I would turn my back when a wave came in. Just knew a shark was cruising in it. I’ve never felt comfortable in the ocean. I’ve been way out there fishing and seen some truly huge sharks. Also hooked some in the bay.

  17. OMG Laura IT REALLY IS YOU! I don’t know if you remember me but I think we started blogging around the same time (I’m Nobonita@Daydreaming Bookworm) but I like how you’re still sticking to your theme when it comes to books. I’ve been on a hiatus for about 3 years ish but I’m trying to get back into the blogging world. Hope you’re doing well!

P.S. Naughty Monster actually looks pretty good I might try it out even though you gave it three stars haha. #coverlust

  18. karen blue says:

I used to love shark week back when I had cable. I am not too keen on all the old movies, but they are such fascinating creatures. So many interesting books. Thanks for sharing!

  19. katarguelles says:

I remember watching Jaws as a kid and was so scared. Last year we went to Universal Studios in L.A. and they still had the mechanical shark. It’s funny now but it looked so realistic in the movies lol. I hope you enjoy Shark Week and have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I watched a documentary about the making of the movie. That mechanical shark only worked once. They had to improvise and sure did a fantastic job.

  20. Dang, the Carolyn McCray books aren’t available individually on my Amazon or in paperback which is a pity. I like the book covers…

    • fuonlyknew says:

That’s odd. I read them some time ago and had individual ones. She must have bundled them and took down the individuals. This is a terrific bunch of shark stories. And she has tons of other books. I’ve read bunches. LOL

  21. Some fantastic scary reads here! And i downloaded a couple of freebies, too. Thanks Laura! Also, the Shark books/video is something I’ll look into for my Monday Movie feature!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Ooh, I hope you do one about sharks. So much out there to share and talk about! Have you ever seen the movie Frankenfish. It was filmed in my neck of the woods and was actually very good.

  22. Wow it looks like it was a very busy week of blogging and reading!
Oh dear, sharks…..I’m terrified of them, but I admire you for liking Jaws and all those others! I could never do that, lol 😉

Hope you have a great week ahead 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m always looking for new ones. It’s like with spiders. Deathly afraid of them, but give me a book or movie, and I’m a happy camper. LOL

  23. I yelled shark! It was me. I loved doing my Binge Watching post on sharks and had no idea Meg was going to be a movie. I’ve yet to read the book but I’m really wanting to so now I have some motivation. Hope to read Shark Island before July is out. Hope you enjoy shark week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I loved your post and couldn’t believe we were both posting about them so close together. It’s that Shark Week time of the month. LOL Meg is a series and it gets more and more crazy, especially when the author brings in more giant water creatures. I have Shark Island on my list and waiting on your thoughts before I buy it.

  24. I do love shark flicks but gosh do they scare the skittles out of me! I love horror but sharks… nope, nope, nope. It doesn’t help that I live in Florida and had an encounter as a kid.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I live one state over from ya and share the Gulf. I’ve seen what’s out there and no longer swim in the ocean!

  25. I picked up Thea. I like realistic vampire stories. I am more of a Shark Tale kind of girl. Ha ha. I hope your week started well. 🙂

  26. Melissa (My World...in words and pages) says:

I’ve never watched shark week. lol. But I think I need to watch the Sharknado movies. They seem fun from what people are saying. lol.

Have a great week and enjoy the books!

  27. Katherine P says:

There’s something so creepy about sharks! I mean there’s the obvious reason that they can sneak up and eat you but that dead eye stare just gives me the shivers. WE just got back from an aquarium visit so I’ve spent quite a bit of time eye to eye with sharks! Have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

It;s the eyes. So cold and lifeless. I’ve seen some huge hammerheads and bull sharks while fishing. They like to steal your catch.

  28. You are definitely not alone! They terrify me but I am so fascinated by the all the shark shows. I would love to do a shark cage dive one day!

Hope you’re having a good week!
