 My Review

Hunter Shea writes stories I can sink my teeth into. What’s more fun than getting scared, jumping at little noises, and after finishing one of his books, sleeping with the light on.

The author takes an urban legend and brings it to life. The Dover Demon is a big attraction in Dover, much to the annoyance to some and the delight to others. There’s money to be made from tourists flocking in to try to catch a glimpse of the elusive creature.

Back in 1977, an encounter with a strange creature changes several lives. In present time, a snow storm blows in, and once again the Dover Demon is on the prowl, taking victims. For what purpose? We can’t begin to imagine.

I’m not sure when it started, but this story started to give me the creeps. I felt unsettled, on edge. When a story can creep up on me and make me uncomfortable while reading it, there’s no way I can stop reading until I finish it. Even if that means continuing into the wee hours when it’s dark and every little noise seems magnified.

Once the storm blew in and the characters faced the demons again, it got kind of gory. Since it’s mentioned in the blurb I feel I’m not spoiling anything when I talk about the tunnels under Dover. What happened down there gave me a sense of vertigo. It was dizzying and relentless. The demons had a purpose and they weren’t cute little alien looking things.

What does this creature look like? Take a close look at the cover. Then imagine being in the dark and coming face to face with it. Is it a mutated animal? An alien? A government experiment gone horribly wrong? It could be any of those things.

Like urban legends? Like to be creeped out? Then you should read this book.

Synopsis

The Dover Demon is real…and it has returned.

In 1977, Sam Brogna and his friends came upon a terrifying, alien creature on a deserted country road. What they witnessed was so bizarre, so chilling, they swore their silence. But their lives were changed forever.

Decades later, the town of Dover has been hit by a massive blizzard. Sam’s son, Nicky, is drawn to search for the infamous cryptid, only to disappear into the bowels of a secret underground lair. The Dover Demon is far deadlier than anyone could have believed. And there are many of them. Can Sam and his reunited friends rescue Nicky and battle a race of creatures so powerful, so sinister, that history itself has been shaped by their secretive presence?

This is my own version of a weekly book haul and all things new on fuonlyknew.

I’m also linking up with The Sunday Post hosted by Kimberly @Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

Sunday Post

Some chit chat.

My internet modem is acting strange and I keep losing WiFi so I apologize in advance if I don’t make it to your posts. Of course, it happens on the weekend when I can’t do anything about it. I swear, it’s always something, isn’t it. We are so used to having everything right at our finger tips and then something goes wiggy and frustration sets in. Good thing I have plenty of print books to read and my television is on satellite. LOL

My bananas aren’t doing much new so I thought I’d share this beauty with ya!

That’s my pooch, Quigley. He sure knows how to take a nap. LOL He likes to pull down the pillows and covers into a pile and wallow in them. Sometimes he actually gets under the covers and puts his head on my pillow. I have to tuck the blankets under the mattress and put a sheet over the coverlet or his dog hair gets on everything. What a life, eh?!

I’ll be heading over to your posts soon. Happy Sunday!
