This is my own version of a weekly book haul and all things new on fuonlyknew.

I’m also linking up with The Sunday Post hosted by Kimberly @Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

Sunday Post

Some chit chat.

Well, I have sad news about my bananas. We had a cold front zip through and they didn’t make it. I suspected they wouldn’t after the hurricane battered the tree pretty badly. Maybe next year will be luckier.

Been reading tons of books. Especially horror as Halloween brings it out in me. Who am I kidding! LOL I always read horror.

And I’ve been watching lots of scary movies. Pulled out all of my DVDs and started rewatching them. I had no idea how many scary ones I owned. Also been binging on the telly. I’m halfway through Stranger Things 2. What is that weird critter? Eww!! Are you watching it? What do you think about this season? And I’m caught up through episode 8 in American Horror Story: Cult. I just don’t get it???

An update on the pecans. I took some more to the wholesaler and they weren’t any good. The rains caused dry rot. I guess it’s one more thing I’ll hope is better next year. All that money rotting in the shells. Dang!

Other than that, we’re having a cold snap. In the low 60s and breezy this weekend. Feels colder. And the nights are dipping down to 40. I got out the few winter clothes I own and washed them to get ready for cold weather. I think it’s time to go shopping! I spotted some cute leggins and sweaters the other day.

Do you have any plans for Halloween. What’s your favorite thing to do?

Stay at home and pass out candy?

Stay at home, turn out the lights, and act like you’re not home?

Watch scary movies?

Go see a scary movie?

Go to a Halloween costume party?

Host a Halloween costume party?

Take your kids trick-r-treating?

Or take yourself trick-r-treating?

Tell me your plans!

  1. Sorry about your bananas and your pecans, Laura! That really sucks. We didn’t get any tomatoes this year for some reason… they bloomed, and then – nothing.
You got a whole lot of new books! And you’re all caught up on TV, too?
We don’t do Halloween here, but I’m in the mood for some older scary movies like Halloween and Friday the 13th.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

    • fuonlyknew says:

Not a banner year, for sure. I sure did get a bunch of books, all at once. LOL That’s how it works sometimes:)
I’ve got a bunch of movies and will be sitting on my couch with a bit of chocolate and some popcorn, chilling out for Halloween.

  2. atothewr says:

Handing out candy unless my oldest wants to dress up. Even at 5 he stil shows no interest in that.

  3. sjhigbee says:

Sorry to hear about your bananas AND the pecans! I’m guessing that’s why it’s a cash crop – tricky to grow:(. I hope you have better luck next year. It’s LOVELY to see the cover of Running Out of Space featured in your review section this week, Laura! Once more – thank you so much:). And in answer to your question – I’ll be decorating the window with a few Halloween lights and have a bowl of wrapped sweets and small chocolate bars all ready to hand out to the steady stream of children knocking on the door on Tuesday night:). My Sunday Post – https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2017/10/29/sunday-post-29th-october-2017/

    • fuonlyknew says:

Yes, it’s tricky. This was one of those years. But my miniature orange tree never fails to give me the sweetest fruit. I very much enjoyed Running Out Of Space, Sarah. So happy for you! I’m staying home for Halloween. Got the decorating I’m going to do done. I mix fall and Halloween together and then take the Halloween decs down and still ready for fall. LOL I don’t get trick-or-treaters out where I live. Our houses are far apart and most are quite a ways back from the road. Guess I’ll have to eat the candy. LOL

  4. Sorry about the bananas and pecans. They seem hard to grow but at least you are learning and that is just as important. Good luck with them next year.

All those scary books, I might need to check them out since I am looking for some spooky reads. For some reason even though it’s after halloween, I always think November is kind of spooky too right up until Turkey Day!

I hope you have a great week, Laura! Happy Reading! 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

Yeah, the weather plays a big part in growing them.
I’ve read a bunch of scary reads in October. Now its time for those wintery ones:)

  5. Oh no! 🙁 that sucks… We’ve been watching those bananas for the entire summer now 🙁 poor things…
Don’t have any plans for Halloween, it’s not a thing in my country. However, we do go visit the family graves, but it’s a more solemn occasion.
Hope you have a fun time whatever you decide to do 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I know. I will have one more feature with them. I cut the stalk off and will be opening the plant to share what it looks like inside. I’m staying in for Halloween. I’ll watch some movies and ‘chill’ out. LOL

  6. Oh man, that is to bad about the bananas and pecans. 🙁 I don’t do much for Halloween but sit around and read or watch movies. I usually watch my favorite the old original Wolfman. 🙂

Have a great week and have a great Halloween!
    Stormi
    Week in Review

    • fuonlyknew says:

My son and I watch the original Wolfman too! LOL It’s a favorite along with the old Dracula movies. I think Bela Lugosi might have played him in a film where he never speaks? He said it made the movie scarier. Or maybe it was Peter Cushing? I’ll have to check that. I think the movies are blurring together.

  7. We’ll be babysitting Little Miss Cheeks so her parents can go to a Halloween party, so we’ll probably just be watching scary stuff. And we have to dance to Thriller at least once. It’s not Halloween unless we do. 😀

Bummer about the pecans and bananas. 🙁 Maybe next year.

    • fuonlyknew says:

LOL I used to work at a pub and every year we had a costume party and everyone tried to replicate that dance in the parking lot. Lots of crazy fun:)

  8. Wow, huge haul! Enjoy. I am way behind on the Lauren Carr books…must catch up!

I will probably stay home, turn out the lights, and pretend I’m not there…LOL. Actually, I will just turn out the porch light. In the ten years I’ve lived here, I haven’t had any Trick or Treaters…except my grandson several years ago. Nobody in the neighborhood.

    I like watching movies.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I adore Lauren’s books and always thrilled to get the next one! I like how she blends her series’ together. I’m staying home too. Lots of scary movies and shows in the line up.

  9. Bleu Bailey says:

I’ve been watching a lot of horror movies too. Horror/Thriller are my favorite genres. I’m really enjoying this time of year. Sorry about your bananas and pecans I hope they turn out better for you next time!! Happy Halloween ?

    • fuonlyknew says:

I love horror and thrillers too. Any time. Any where. LOL Maybe next year will be better for the bananas and pecans. I hope so anyway.

  10. I’m so sorry about your bananas! They had been doing so well. That’s a shame about the pecans, too. Hopefully next year is better! I don’t like scary movies all that much. If an inventory was done of my DVDs, it would be mostly children’s. Disney and Warner Brothers rule my collection. Our weather was in the 80s during the day and 40s at night and the mornings, but Friday dipped down. It was blustery and I near froze leaving at lunch without a jacket. Today has been warmer, though.

    • fuonlyknew says:

Your weather sounds similar to mine. Supposed to be back to 80 mid week. I also watch my favorite tv shows with their Halloween features and favorite cartoons too:)

  11. I’ve enjoyed some of Celina Grace’s early books, I really must get round to reading some more soon. Great post although I’m sure your postman doesn’t agree haha

    • fuonlyknew says:

Celina was new to me. I’m curious about her books now. My postman had to walk to my door several times with packages. I’ll be sure to tip him well at Christmas.

  12. Hey,

Your blog is amazing! I love ur design! You also had a very busy week, thats amazing! I’m thinking of downloading Lost Wold and/or Crushed what do u think?

    • fuonlyknew says:

Thanks so much. I’ve had this for years and it’s so me I’ll probably never change it. They’re free so why not grab both. LOL I try to share free books that sound like something I’d enjoy.

  13. Oh, Hounded! I liked that one a lot. Oberon the dog is a hoot.

I’m sorry about your bananas and pecans. I hope they do better next year. I’m not much of a gardener but I can imagine the frustration… worse than mine when the blasted deer eat my hostas. Every. Single. Year.

I know a lot of people enjoy the scary books and movies during Halloween season. Me, I’ll probably just watch a few Harry Potter movies again. I do plan to dress up to hand out candy on Halloween, for the first time since I can’t remember when. I bought a witch hat!

    • fuonlyknew says:

It’s my first read by Kevin and I’ve heard good things about his stories. And a few people mentioned Oberon!
There’s always next year for the bananas and pecans. Just kind of sad the season fell flat. The squirrels are happy though:) I always used to dress up to hand out candy. Now I live in a rural area and we don’t get anyone.

  14. The scariest thing I watch is Hocus Pocus. I was telling my students I do not understand PAYING to have some one scare you in a haunted house. I am baffled. However, we do read Frankenstein every year with the seniors, but to me, the scariest character isn’t the monster, its Victor Frankenstein. But, I could go on forever about that….

    • fuonlyknew says:

Oh yes. The doctor is scarier than his monster. Such a classic. I watch scary and cute Halloween movies and shows. It’s a favorite holiday for me.

  15. karen blue says:

This is totally your holiday Laura! I will be trick-or-treating with my kids, but then I have to be to work at midnight. Ugh! I hate my job. Anyways, I have to be in the mood for scary movies. I did watch Casper with my daughter last night and I hope to watch some other classic with the kids tomorrow. Not tonight tho. Tonight is for The Walking Dead.
We are planning to binge watch season 2 of Stranger Things. I have heard goo dthings about it already.
Have a great week and happy reading!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Yep. My time of year. LOL I just finsihed Stanger Things 2 today and just watched The Walking Dead. Wow, amazing episode. Next week doesn’t look so good for our guys.

  16. Sorry about your bananas and pecans. I tried to grow sunflowers this year for sunflower seeds, but the squirrels killed them all. I still got tomatoes and peppers, though. The squirrels don’t care about those.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I used to grow sunflowers. Dang squirrels! I have my miniature oranges starting to grow. Nothing seems to mess with them.

  17. Oh so sorry about your bananas. You must have been so sad. Let’s hope next year will be better. I hope you enjoy your books and have a wonderful week. Happy reading.

  18. Sorry to hear about the bananas and the pecans. 🙁
So many great new books! I have Hounded on hold at the librray for my husband right now. Hopefully it will come in soon. Hope you have a great week!

  19. I really enjoyed Fat Vampire! It was an entertaining series. We don’t really do Halloween where I am. You maybe get a knock on the door once, or some years not at all. I certainly wouldn’t be handing out piles of sweets to kids I’ve never seen before! Not my idea of fun I’m afraid! Even as a kid we never went round the doors.

Horror Month has been a total failure. A re-read of The Rats and that was it. No other horror books, no horror films at all. I’m bummed about it!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m going to grab Fat Vampire since you enjoyed it! You may not have read a bunch of horror but their were some apocalyptic books weren’t there? We used to go door to door. When my son was old enough, we went to a huge neighborhood. Everyone went there every year. Much safer as most of us knew each other. No horror films????? Oh no!

  20. Loving Stranger Things, no idea what that critter is but he freaks me out! For Halloween, I just put up decorations and watch scary movies, and listen to scary podcasts. Love it!

    • fuonlyknew says:

He’s so ugly he’s cute. LOL Got a feeling he won’t stay that way. My son is listening to some podcasts so of course, I am too. LOL

  21. RIP little banana buddies. Hope to see you next year. ? That’s a shame about your pecans. Here’s to better growing weather next year.

I make large goodie bags for the kids on my street and the two girls I babysit. I hand them out the day before. Too many older teens trick or treat in my area because we live so close to the hood, so I turn out my lights. Ha Ha. ?

Happy Halloween and have a fab week.☺

  22. Sorry about your bananas. I’m sure next year will be better. We are up to episode 8 of Stranger Things 2. At first, I wasn’t sure I would enjoy it as much as Season 1 but it’s really picking up. I thought Dirt was cute at first – I should have known better. As for American Horror: Cult – when you figure it out, please explain it to me. I really don’t like it but figure there’s only 2 more episodes so I might as well finish it out. We’ll be handing out candy Tuesday night but in our neighborhood, it’s either hit or miss so we may have an awful lot of candy on our hands!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I just finished it last night. I felt the same way at the start. But after about the 5th episode it started to grab me. It gets crazy right up til the end! Yeah, Dirt got nasty. His taste sure changed. I kind of figured out Cult at the end. I think the last episode was the only one I actually liked. I’m going to binge a bunch of classic horrror movies on Halloween with my son. We’re nuts for them, Especially the black & whites.

  23. What a shame about the bananas and the pecans! I haven’t started Season 2 of Stranger Things yet, but I definitely plan to!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I know. I had fun sharing pictures about them. My orange tree should be starting to grow fruit so maybe I’ll share that next. It’s fun:) You’re in for some good stuff with season 2. Stars a little slow but hang in there. Things get crazy.

  24. Bummer about the pecans, and the bananas but it was cool seeing them anyway. Better luck next year on both. Enjoy all your creepy reads and don’t eat too much candy. LOL
    sherry @ fundinmental Sunday Memes

    • fuonlyknew says:

Sherry, I almost cried. The season is a loss. Oh well. Next year, eh. And I only have one chocolate bar. Had to hide it from Cole. LOL

  25. Melissa (My World...in words and pages) says:

Oh no. Bummer about the bananas! I was looking forward to watching them grow. through pictures. Better luck next year.

As for Halloween…we aren’t Halloween people. We don’t dress or decorate, and we don’t get tricker treaters – not really a neighborhood.

    Have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Since my bananas failed, I’m thinking of trying something with my miniature orange tree. Need to go out and look at it first. I live in a rural area so I decorate more for fall than Halloween. I do put out some spooky stuff though, just for me:)

  26. Yvonne says:

I do enjoy scary books and movies. Especially at this time of year. Have a great week.

  27. Katherine P says:

That’s too bad about your bananas and pecans. Growing anything is so finnicky. We have problems with tomatoes here because we go from too cold to too hot without much in between. I can’t imagine having a livelihood tied to how crops grow! We went trick or treating Halloween and walked miles and miles. My feet hurt! When I don’t have a trick or treater I think my choice would be to stay home and watch scary movies! Have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

It seems like every year is a toss up on what will or won’t produce. LOL My son in grown so more more walking door to door. Now I stay home and watch the telly, sneaking in a bit of chocolate. LOL

  28. That sucks that you’re work has fallen through for this year. At least you got experience and you can only hope next year your bananas manage to make it through. ANd the pecans too! Next year will hopefully be better.

I planned to watch lots of scary movies for Halloween but life got in the way, I have watched all of Stranger Things and hasn’t it been good? I did think episode 7 was a little weird but as a whole the season has been really good and I wasn’t sure it would help up to the first season but it proved me wrong.

Hope you had a good Halloween, have a good week.

    • fuonlyknew says:

Yeah, maybe next year. I finished Stranger Things 2. It got crazy at the end! I was worried at what I felt was a slow start but they pulled it off in the last episodes.

  29. Wow!! I love that cover of ‘A Blessing From The Obeah Man’!! It looks so pretty. Halloween isn’t much of a thing here in The Netherlands. But we did watch a scary movie, I didn’t really like it though.
Have a great week and happy reading!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I have started the book yet but that cover is killer! I watched some classic horror films. Always watch them for Halloween. Plus some favorite cartoons.

  30. Sorry about the bananas and the pecans :-/ I didn’t do anything for Halloween. I read a book lol. It had a ghost thing and murders and whatnot though, so that counts for something right? 😛

    • fuonlyknew says:

It’s disappointing but I’m hoping next year will be better. That hurricane ruined everything. And yes, a book with a ghost thing counts. LOL
