My Review

Wow. Talk about bringing out all of the feels. I could hardly catch my breath.

Nephilim have all but destroyed the planet and are hunting down the last pockets of humanity. Humans are hiding out below ground, slowly starving and all but out of hope. And a nasty manipulator is wreaking all kinds of havoc. A celestial war is brewing and there may be no one left to lay claim to the planet.

Kali and Tiamat. Tiamat and Kali. These star-crossed lovers have a place in my heart. I’m not big on romance. I don’t mind some in a book as long as its not the main focus. That said, I would gladly have read about these two character’s no matter what genre or world they were in. Reading about their love for each other was bliss and torture combined. When the author describes their longing for each other, I turned to mush. And as thrilling as it was to read about winged beings dueling in the sky like planes in a dogfight, it was just as thrilling to read about Tiamat and Kali. These two character’s have grown. They’ve endured so much adversity.

It was also fun to reunite with old character’s and meet some new ones. There was a certain someone who pinged my curiosity radar. Couldn’t put my finger on just what he was or what his role would be in the trials ahead.

And the story takes a huge turn, going somewhere I’d never have guessed. Having waited so long for this sequel in the trilogy, I couldn’t be happier with what I got. Whether laughing at, swooning over, or crying about things that occurred, it all felt so dang good.

Synopsis

D.H. Nevins hurtles you into a world of half-angels, demons and tormented love in this driving, dystopian sequel to Wormwood.

Half-angels, known as Nephilim, have all but destroyed the surface of the Earth. Yet for Kali Michaels, her life is now much more complicated than simply surviving. Grappling with her own powerful identity, she worries her connection to the world of Shadows could destroy those around her.
And what if she hurts Tiamat Wormwood, the Nephilim outcast who has given everything to save her? Tiamat and Kali know they have no future—not when outside forces and Kali’s own power push both the humans and the Nephilim to the brink of extinction.
As she fights to stop the inevitable, she is led to question who her real enemies are, and whether the ultimate threat may actually be herself.

Thank you for making my day with this unbelievable review! This is one of those reviews that makes an author say, “Yes! This is exactly how I wanted readers to feel. She gets it!” This makes everything worthwhile. Thank you, Laura!!!

I knew this was going to be good, but WOW! You really took me out of my world for several hours. I was feeling one thing after another through the entire book with hardly a moment to catch my breath. So excited to know I won’t have that long to wait for the end, but not wanting it to end too. LOL THANK YOU:)

      • D.H. Nevins says:

There will also be a prequel based on Tiamat. It’s called Monster. 🙂

  3. Sounds like the series is delivering for you…hope you continue to enjoy it!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Oh yes, this author delivers. I think you might like this if it weren’t for the romance. I know you don’t like it when the focus is romance and the relationship with Tiamat and Kali is a huge part of this trilogy. They just made me melt:)

  4. So glad you loved this one and that cover is so pretty!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I fell hard for the character’s and the world the author created. And I love her covers too. They sure go well with the stories inside.

I’m a couple weeks late with this. I recently got Wormwood after reading Sherry’s review of the second one. Haven’t had a chance to read it yet so I didn’t really read much of your review. Sorry. But I did want to come visit your blog. Hope you have a good rest of your week!
