Dive Smack
by Demetra Brodsky
Synopsis
Theo Mackey only remembers one thing for certain about the fire that destroyed his home: he lit the match.
Sure, it was an accident. But the blaze killed his mom and set his dad on a path to self-destruction. Everything else about that fateful night is full of gaping holes in Theo’s mind, for good reason. Maybe it’s better that way. As captain of the Ellis Hollow Diving Team, with straight A’s and solid friends, he’s only one semester away from securing a scholarship, and leaving his past behind.
But when a family history project gets assigned at school, new memories come rushing to the surface, memories that make him question what he really knows about his family, the night of the fire, and if he can trust anyone—including himself.

I have GOT to read this book! It seems like a sign, awakening from a nightmare, and this was the first email in my inbox that led me to this lovely book!
It could be meant to be!
When my brothers walked into our apartment when I was 11 covered in blood.
Oh wow. That sounds terrifying. I had something similar happen with my brother. It wasn’t his blood but it was so traumatic.
After a very healthy life being diagnosed with breast cancer.
I’m so sorry to hear that, Anne. And I have added you to my prayer list.
I really do like the sound of this book. The most frightening moment of my life would have been when I couldn’t find my teenager after she ran away from home.
I can only imagine your fear. My brother ran away from home and our family was frantic.
Being bit by a copperhead when I was a child and almost dying. This book looks interesting!
Whoa. That is scary, Stormi. I have a healthy fear of snakes. We have so many that are deadly here.
Most frightening moment…can’t think of one. I do love that cover.
Glad that nothing just jumps into mind, Sherry.
I was alone in my apartment going through a bout of bronchitis and after a particularly harsh coughing fit my lungs seized up and I couldn’t force myself to draw a breath for a minute or two. Thought I was going to die right there.
Glad you ae okay! I had that happen when I had Pneumonia. I couldn’t stop coughing long enough to get a breath in!
The most frightening moment of my life was when my son almost died. He didn’t know he was diabetic.
Oh my, that is terrifying. My son spent a week in intensive care when he was a month old. An infection almost killed him.
