Cryptid Zoo
by Gerry Griffiths
Genre: Horror / Science Fiction
My Review
I’ve read lots of horror stories about zoos. There’s the zombies, werewolves, vampires zoo. The dinosaurs zoo. A dragon, crocodile zoo. Why not a crytpid zoo.
So, the plot isn’t all that new. We know going into this that the zoo is a very bad idea. We know the creatures escape and wreak havoc. But this gal says, so what. It’s still bloody good fun.
There’s every kind of cryptid you can think of, and a few new ones for me. They all have their own special killing abilities and, one by one, the humans fall like dominoes.
The author gave me a few characters that I actually liked and wanted to survive. That always adds to the edginess. And not being familiar with this author, I didn’t know if he was willing to kill off prominent characters. I found out pretty quick.
The monsters are out. There’s nowhere to hide. Watch the skies. Stay out of the water. Don’t look it in the eyes. Plug your ears. Stay out of dark places. Who knows if they can be killed. All of this made Cryptid Zoo a fun, scary, atmospheric read for me.

You can find a list of my reviews HERE.
I read this at the weekend and enjoyed it. I’d have loved to see the escaped monsters bit last a few more chapters but I loved the mix of monsters!
It got pretty wild, didn’t it. This was a good one. The Mothman was something else. LOL And I loved the chupacabras.
Sounds like a fun read and I love that cover. On to the wishlist it goes!
I read the word Cryptid and had to grab it! LOL
I’ve seen this one around and wondered. Sounds like I wouldn’t be disappointed after reading your great review.

Yep, you’d enjoy this one, Sherry:)
Yes Laura why do the insist to go into the zoo/haunted house/creepy barn…? Why???? LOL Great review here!
LOL I actually had an experience where I was home alone, heard something break in the basement, and went down to see what was what. I know. I didn’t follow the rules. LOL Turns out someone left the basement window open and a cat came in, knocking something of the TV.
I love that cover! I think that this sounds really interesting and would not hesitate to pick it up myself.
Between the cover, the title and the blurb, I was a goner. LOL
Anytime I see cryptid (on anything crypto) I automatically want it…lol.
LOL Me too, Stormi!
This sounds awesome! Families forced on a vacay to a cryptid zoo?? I need to add this to my tbr list!
And of course everything that can go wrong, does!
Have you read Rachel Vincent’s Menagerie series? It has a cryptid zoo. Horrible things happen even if it is not horror. The third in the trilogy is out Oct 30th. I have loved these on audio because Gabra Zackman is awesome. I got the first one from the library a few years back and I was hooked. Anne – Books of My Heart
Nope. I haven’t read the series. Now I’ll hop over and check it out. Thanks!
This sounds good, I’ve read a similar type story set in China with a zoo setting.
Was that the one with the dragons? I really liked that book.
