House Of Skin
by Jonathan Janz
Genre: Horror / Paranormal
My Review
It wasn’t that long ago that I discovered Jonathan Janz and quickly devoured several of his books. House of Skin has another chilling, gorgeous cover and dark and mysterious title. After reading the synopsis I knew I wanted to read it.
So, what can I tell you about this book? I went in curious and it didn’t immediately grab me. That’s okay. I don’t always have to be mesmerized by an opening. And then I met some very unlikable characters. That’s also okay. I’ve read many books where I didn’t like the characters. Makes it much more interesting when things go sideways. I was starting to wonder if this just wasn’t one for me. But, not one to be able to leave a story unread, I continued on. You just never know what might be coming. Then, it started to get real interesting. Real crazy. And there was the Janz story I was hoping for.
House Of Skin might have taken it’s time hooking me, but when the teeth sunk in, they had a big bite.

Synopsis
Myles Carver is dead. But his estate, Watermere, lives on, waiting for a new Carver to move in. Myles’s wife, Annabel, is dead too, but she is also waiting, lying in her grave in the woods. For nearly half a century she was responsible for a nightmarish reign of terror, and she’s not prepared to stop now. She is hungry to live again…and her unsuspecting nephew, Paul, will be the key. Julia Merrow has a secret almost as dark as Watermere’s. But when she and Paul fall in love they think their problems might be over. How can they know what Fate–and Annabel–have in store for them? Who could imagine that what was once a moldering corpse in a forest grave is growing stronger every day, eager to take her rightful place amongst the horrors of Watermere? FLAME TREE PRESS is the new fiction imprint of Flame Tree Publishing. Launched in 2018 the list brings together brilliant new authors and the more established; the award winners, and exciting, original voices.

I love the books being offered by Flame Tree and am so glad they are doing their part in reviving the horror genre. I too really enjoy Janz and am always curious about his titles. I think Dust Devils is still my favorite but on the whole, he is an author I’m rarely disappointed in.
Dust Devils was awesome! One of my favorites too.
I love how this got better and better the more you read😁
Me too. The end was worth the slower start.
The title just sounds like my kind of book! I’ve not read this author yet- must change that!
I hope you try him. I’m sure enjoying what I’ve read so far:)
It’s definitely a creepy cover and that title sounds ominous!
I know. They do go together!
While not my genre I do love that cover.
It sure is pretty:)
Laura I admire that you didn’t DNF! I would probably have called it quit and …missed all the fun 😉
If I don’t finish a book, it haunts me. LOL
House of Skin looks frightening, in the best way! Wonderful that you stuck it out to get to the good parts! 🙂
I just can’t not finish a book. LOL And it often pays off:)
I’ve read this book. Janz is a good story teller. It’s horror, but there is a lot of mystery in this one.
I enjoyed the extra mystery. I’m reviewing his book, The Dark Game, too and it’s similar in that way.
I’m the sort of reader that needs to connect quickly with the book and like the MCs so I might have trouble with this. I do intend to try a few by the author at some point though! I’m sure I’ll like something if I’m patient and give a few a go!
I’ve liked several of his books. Some more than others. I have another to share this month too.
that’s why i try to read every book til the end. ya just never know…..

Oooh! Another for my TBR! 🙂 Thank you!
I really like his books!
I have this one and really need to get too it! Have you read The Sorrow by this author? I wasn’t impressed with it but I remembered the movie they were working on was called House of Skin so I had to get it to try, so why haven’t I tried it yet….lol
I did read it. I’ve read a bunch of his. Most of them I really liked.
