I’m also linking up with The Sunday Post hosted by Kimberly @Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

Some chit chat.

We had a bit of a scare this week. A storm blew through here and the winds were so strong I thought the house was going to take flight. A tree snapped in half and fell right between my house and my car. So I’ve been busy cleaning that up and chasing down everything that blew all over the place. Now the weather is 80s and sunny. Gorgeous! And I managed to take a few dips in the pool. I also found time to binge the entire Jesse Stone series. I love those movies. Didn’t do much reading. Still struggling to concentrate.

Stay safe and take care everyone.

  1. It’s definitely hard to concentrate some days. It’s like time is standing still – and moving way too fast at the same time. I feel like I’m in a kind of vacuum.
I’m glad the house stayed on the ground, and that the fallen tree didn’t break anything, even if it became a lot of work for you.
Have a wonderful week ahead, stay safe and healthy <3

  2. I was really struggling to concentrate on reading for a while there too but over the last couple of weeks I seem to be getting my reading mojo back… I think there’s just a lot going on in the world and the brain is constantly in a panicked almost fight or flight setting that we’re not even conscious of being in! Hopefully things settle down and you can get back to the books soon. 🙂

PS – The tree’s landing site was lucky! Between the house and the car but not on either?! That’s a win!

    • fuonlyknew says:

It was lucky. Small branches brushed the roof of the house and the bumper of my car but didn’t hurt anything. Just made a mess. LOL

  3. Hi! Totally understand you’re not being able to concentrate – I am like that – it’s strange how what’s going on is affecting our reading??? Sorry to hear about your storm – hope your house and care weren’t damaged!

Oh just nabbed Harvest Deep and a couple of others – thank you!

Stay safe and take care x

  4. Ooh, scary tree falling down! Good that there wasn’t more damage.

Your books are tempting me. I am in the mood for some cozies. Thanks for sharing, and here are my WEEKLY UPDATES

  5. Sam@WLABB says:

How lucky that the branch fell between the house and the car and on neither. Whew! Glad you are getting some R&R in the pool.

  6. So glad you were ok and got some pool time. I trimmed some bushes and my hands hurt for a few days. And I need to do more trimming.

I am thrilled you got the Murderbot diaries!! I LOVE them!

    Stay safe and be well!

Anne – Books of My Heart Here is my Sunday Post

    • fuonlyknew says:

I still have a lot of yard work to do. Let it get out of hand last year. I’m having such fun with the Murderbot books.

  7. Sophie @BewareOfTheReader says:

OMG Laura I would have been so scared! That’s sheer luck it landed between the house and your car! You really didn’t need another car problem! Don’t worry about reading right now, just enjoy the pool after your long work days and try to relax. Reading will come back later. Stay safe my friend!

  8. Glad the tree didn’t hit the house or the car. The south has been getting hammered lately with storms. Scary!

  9. Yes, I love the Jesse Stone movies, too. Tom Selleck reminds me of my husband, Russ; though all through our marriage people have commented on how Russ reminds them of Sam Elliot; looks and deep voice. Glad you are all right after your great storm. I and my family, friends, are still sheltering in place. I am so happy we have an outdoor gazebo and patio so we can be outside on nice days. My sister and her husband are visiting today…we all sit on the patio 6 feet apart and visit. No hugs, no going inside the house…but we are luckier than most. In many ways I’ve been sheltering in place the last 48 years (as I wrote my 29 novels and 13 short stories, ha ha). Working on book #30 now. Take care, friend.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I saw you had another new release. When this all dies down I’m hoping me and Sherry can do some more Tag team events! Stay safe and be well:)

      • Laura,
yes, I had another release, All Those Who Came Before, my novel #29; the 6th Spookie Town Murder Mystery (and I’m working on a 7th now or book #30 for me). This last year my Spookie Town Murder Mysteries have been selling like crazy…beyond my wildest dreams. It helped that I have had 2 BookBubs for the first one, Scraps of Paper. People really like cozy murder mysteries, especially in this time of plague. I hope you and Sherry, and your friends and families, stay safe until we are all in the clear. Prayers for all of you. I hope those storms leave you alone now!

  10. Stormi J says:

I have been worried about you when I hear about the storms going through your way! Glad your okay and man talk about lucky in between the house and the car! We have been lucky and the storms have gone around us so far but we get a lot of rain and some grumble thunder.

Stay safe and have a great way!

  11. Phew, that was a close call, I hope the clean up wasn’t too onerous.

Wishing you a great reading week, and good weather, be well x

    • fuonlyknew says:

Thanks. I got all the limbs and such piled up to be hauled off and a neighbor is going to cut down the broken tree for me:)

  12. sjhigbee says:

Eek! It sounds like you had a really narrow escape – it sounds like a scarily violent storm. I hope you continue to be equally lucky – are you able to burn the wood? And I am beyond jealous that you managed to snaffle the Murderbot novellas – they are too expensive for me to justify buying, sadly. Have a more peaceful week, Laura.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I have a neighbor coming by to haul off and burn the wood. And I was lucky and got the Murderbot books free from TOR !

  13. yvonne473 says:

That storm sounds scary. Glad you are okay. I think many of us are finding it hard to concentrate on reading these days. Take care and stay safe.

    • fuonlyknew says:

It’s been crazy storms lately. Always like this in the spring. The Murderbot books are kicking my reading mojo back on!

  14. Carole says:

I am so sorry that you are having to deal with clean up from the storm. Thank goodness the tree fell between your house and car instead of on top of one of them. I was really happy to get copies of the Murderbot books this past week. I have read them but I checked them out from the library so it is nice to have a copy. I hope you have a good week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

It seems like I get things cleaned up and along comes another storm. There isn’t much left near the house to blow down now. LOL

  15. Katherine says:

Oh wow crazy! Glad the tree went between but that’s an awful lot of cleanup. Enjoy your new books and have a great week!

  16. Greg says:

Ooh I love the Murderbot books.

Sorry to hear about the storm- yikes! We had beautiful weather here today- i just sat out in the sun for a while and it was great- but I could use some of those 80’s. 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

What gets me the most is the storms are all blowing in at night. Talk about what goes bump……LOL

  17. Becki says:

Oh my! Glad the tree missed your tree and house! Looks like a good selection of books to keep you happy and distracted 😉 Take care of you and yours!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I was lucky and now there’s no trees near my house to cause damage. I’d just had a couple of old pecan trees removed. Just in time!

  18. Yes, I feel like I have ADD. I am glad you all survived the storms. It has been a weird weather week. We had several hail storms. Be safe and happy reading!

    • fuonlyknew says:

My mind is a mess. LOL It was so lucky for me. I finally thought I had a place to park that was safe from trees since I’d had some old ones removed and bam!

  19. S. J. Pajonas (spajonas) says:

Glad to hear that tree missed both your car AND your house!

  20. Oh, man! That sounds really scary, Laura! Glad to hear that you are safe! I hope this week is relaxing and you have some enjoyable reads. <3

    • fuonlyknew says:

Another storm blew through last night but just small limbs fell everywhere. I’m enjoying the Murderbot books right now. They are such fun.

  21. Berls says:

Yikes! I’m so glad it didn’t fall on the house or the car! What luck that the tree landed between them!

I know, it can be so hard to concentrate these days. Stay safe!

    • fuonlyknew says:

My last house had nine trees blow down during a hurricane. I moved to this one and didn’t have as many trees. Had two old ones removed recently and it was good timing. The one that snapped in half was a young tree so it shouldn’t have broken like that.

  22. Molly's Book Nook says:

Glad that tree didn’t fall on your house! Weather can be so crazy sometimes.

I also recently purchased All Systems Red. I’ve heard great things about it!

  23. It sounds like you got lucky with the tree missing your house and car like that. As if life isn’t scary enough at the moment without natural disaster season. Ooh Murderbot! I love that series. I need to see about ordering the new novel!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I do feel lucky! And I’m really having fun with the Murderbot books. Reading Exit Strategy right now.
