This is my own version of a weekly book haul and all things new on fuonlyknew.

I’m also linking up with The Sunday Post hosted by Kimberly @Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

Some chit chat.

Things are changing a bit here with a soft reopening going on. They’ve opened the beaches and small businesses. There’s still restrictions on how many can gather or be admitted. I’m hoping people use common sense and keep taking precautions. Some places that opened back up had a spike in cases. They still check our temperatures at work and require us to stay six feet apart when possible and wear masks.

Stay safe and take care everyone.

My new books.

I’ve been tearing through the Murderbot Diaries books and had to pre-order the newest one. I don’t normally spend so much for an eBook but since I got the first four books free through TOR, I figured this was a way to pay them and the author back for such awesome generosity.

Network Effect: A Murderbot Novel (The Murderbot Diaries Book 5) by [Martha Wells]

  1. Greg says:

Yeah spiking after reopening is such a concern, and it’s amazing to me how many people aren’t taking this seriously enough. And Network Effect- I can’t WAIT to get my hands on that bad boy. 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

We had so many people coming in where I work it felt like the lockdown wasn’t even happening! I can’t wait for my copy to arrive! Love muderbot:)

  2. The people in my state seem to be pretty lax with things because a lot of them seem to be out and about all the time regardless of the order. Unless we’re all going to the grocery store at the same time? I’m hoping numbers will start to decline though. Such a scary virus! I also grabbed the free ebooks from Tor and hope to read the series. It looks and sounds so amazing! I hope you have a fantastic week, Laura!

    My Weekly Update

    • fuonlyknew says:

It’s the same here. They often bring their whole family in. Even babies! I sure am enjoying the Murderbot books. On the fourth one now.

  3. Gayathri Lakshminarayanan says:

Expecting people to use common sense seems like a big ask these days. I am not risking my health betting on others. I will be staying in as long as possible

    • fuonlyknew says:

So many people are coming in where I work just to get out of the house. I take precautions and hope I don’t get it.

  4. sjhigbee says:

We are still in lockdown and the government has a strict 5-step set of outcomes they are following before the restrictions will be eased down. Mostly people have been good, but there are more folks out and about – which is daft as we are barely through the peak and we have been hammered, with a death toll of nearly 30,000, so far. Glad you have enjoyed the Murderbot series so much – I scampered across to see if that special offer applied in the UK, but if it had, I missed it. I would LOVE to get hold of it, but I can’t justify that kind of expenditure on novellas… I hope you continue to stay safe, Laura.

    • fuonlyknew says:

We were one of the last states to start getting cases so it concerns me that we are easing up on restrictions so early. I wish I’d shared in a post about the TOR offer!

  5. Stormi J says:

I got all but the second Murderbot as I missed it cause I didn’t know it was one a day until the third one…lol. I really need to try that series, I am not huge on sci-fi but I am trying to branch out…lol. 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m thinking you’ll enjoy them, Stormi. Murderbot is a fun character and I do love it’s sarcasm!

  6. limabean74 says:

NJ lacks common sense, so I plan to stay home as much as possible even if everything starts to open again. I feel like I just need to see how it goes before I decided if I want to go out and about.

You got lots of great looking books the Witch Hollow covers are cool.

Have a great week, Laura! Stay safe and Happy Reading! xx

    • fuonlyknew says:

I think it’s too early to take bug steps. I’m hoping they take things slowly, just to be smart.

  7. Tammy says:

I worry about states reopening too soon. I don’t think California is even close to reopening, luckily. I will probably end up staying home even when it does! Hope you have a good week, Laura😁

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’ve had to go in to work since it all began and it shocks me how many people act like it’s nothing to worry about. Almost hasn’t felt real.

  8. Yes I’m worried that people aren’t taking it seriously because the first wave hasn’t really flattened and they are already opening up. We aren’t. I hope you stay safe and well. What have I been saying about Murderbot for a couple years?!? It’s awesome! I will tell you the audios are also brilliant. You may be able to get them at the library. I bought them and have reread them because.. amazing.

Take care, be kind and sensible!

Anne – Books of My Heart Here is my Sunday Post

    • fuonlyknew says:

I live in a small town with lots of retirees and I worry for them. I continue to hope we don’t rush to reopen and have a rise in cases. Muderbot is such fun. I’m waiting on the newst one now!

  9. I love the freebie cosy covers! They’re so cute.

  10. Rachel @Waves of Fiction says:

I hope people will use common sense, too, but sometimes I think that’s too much to hope for. Seeing some of the protests really makes me shake my head.

I read the first Murderbot and enjoyed it. I need to get to the others sometime.

    • fuonlyknew says:

We had some restaurants open up for inside dining and they immediately went in and shut them down. We closed things down in steps and we should reopen in small steps too.

  11. Things are opening up here this week as well. Its pretty slow opening though (and still not retail, salons, gyms, etc). So, I guess we will see how it goes. Hope you have a good week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I get that people are tired of being stuck at home but I do hope things are a gradual reopening so we can play it safe.

  12. Sam@WLABB says:

I always apply that logic, when I buy a non-sale ebook. I look at the average cost. So, if I spent $10 on one book, but got three for free, that’s an average price of $2.50 per book. Boom! Right in the acceptable range. Glad they are still keeping you safe at work. They opened the state parks and golf courses with restrictions in NJ, and everything that is open is at 50% capacity with face coverings required. I heard they do temp checks at my job too, and masks must be worn.

    • fuonlyknew says:

We get temps checked and have to wear masks but they don’t make the customers wear them. Kind of lost on that logic????

  13. yvonne473 says:

Things are slowly opening up again here too. I worry that it’s too soon. I’m still being careful. The freebies look great. I got a few of them too. Have a great week. Stay safe!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I guess we’ll see how it goes. It’s very busy at work and I think it’s because people just need to get out. I see some of the same customers several times a week.

  14. Sophie @BewareOfTheReader says:

Laura they are reopening some places here too! I hope people will have common sense and take precautions. Now i have seen indeed that you love these Martha Wells books!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’ve not heard much since the soft reopening but will be watching to see how things go. And yep, I’m loving the Murderbot!!

  15. Carole says:

Murderbot is fantastic! I might have to wait for a copy of Network Effect from my library, although I might cave and just buy a copy. My state is reopening but my county remains on stay at home orders. We will see how it goes. I just hope business picks up or things might not be great job-wise. I hope you have a wonderful week, Laura!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I am really having fun with Murderbot. Everything I hoped the series would be. It’s very busy where I work and I’m very tired. Have a day off coming up and plan to just relax:)

  16. S. J. Pajonas (spajonas) says:

Yeah, I think we’ll all be regretting this re-opening when the hospitals are full this summer. Stay safe everyone!

  17. glad to hear they are taking care of you at work. we opened the beaches too. i hope things work out well, but i have my doubts about normal…what will the new normal be?
    sherry @ fundinmental

    • fuonlyknew says:

People tend to forget after a while so I can see things returning to normal after some time. Are your beaches packed? I know they say small groups and social distancing but how can they enforce that.

  18. Katherine says:

I think we are under a Safer at Home order now that the Safe at Home order expired. By the end of the Safe at Home it felt like people were just done and not paying any attention to it. My husband said the grocery store was jammed and you could barely find a parking space at Home Depot. We are just going to continue staying at home until I really feel like I have an idea of how things are actually going. It’s so hard to tell! Have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I think people aren’t really paying attention anymore too. I guess we’ll see as time goes on.

  19. Laura, these times are so challenging! We still have most of our restrictions in place where I am, but there are so many people who don’t follow the guidelines as they should. I am glad to hear that your work has some safety measures in place for you. Stay safe and happy reading this week! 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

We are taking precautions at work but they don’t make the customers do it. It makes little sense to me and I do what I can to protect myself:)

  20. I so much need that Murderbot book right now! I think I need to go and order it now! I can always blame you! *giggles*
