MY REVIEW

What a fun take on Santa and the night before Christmas. Last year, when he returned from delivering presents, all the yummy food and drinks were already gobbled up. This year he’s determined not to miss out, so….. he tries something different.

I remember when I was a little girl. I made sure Santa had his cookies and milk waiting by the Christmas tree. I was always giddy with excitement when I came out of my room on Christmas morning and I spied the cookies were gone and the glass of milk was empty. When I had a son of my own, he made me include oatmeal for the hard working reindeer.

This adorable story, with vibrant, colorful pages, brought back some fond memories. I hope you get a chance to read it and share it with your young ones.

STARR OF THE SHOW: Shiny Friends Super Squad #1

Pub. Date: October 1, 2023

Formats:  Paperback, eBook

Starr and Sunny are best friends with a super-unbreakable
bond––at least until Starr tells a little lie that spirals into a great big
mess! Will the lie cost Starr her best friend, her passing science grade, and
her spot onstage at Fifth Grade Family Night? Or will friendship and the power
of forgiveness show a whole new squad how to shine?

Starr of the Show is a heartwarming tale about
two friends, with a gentle message about forgiveness and letting go. Leigh
Reagan Alley tells a sweet story filled with preteen drama, humor, and witty
dialogue that entertains you from beginning to end. The characters are
compelling and feel like real elementary school kids. Even the fight between
Starr and Sunny is adorable, and their friendship is the story’s heartbeat.
Kids will find it easy to relate to either of them. The illustrations by Mark
Nathan Hurry add a nice touch to bring the characters to life. This is the kind
of book kids should read before aging up for Harry Potter. I loved every moment
of it and will gladly recommend it for preteens.” –Pikasho Deka for

Letter to my younger self

Dear Younger Self,

I know you often worry about your writing skills and how they will develop over time. I want to assure you that with each new book you write, your skills will improve and continually develop. It’s a natural progression that will allow you to find your rhythm, method, and voice. When you first started writing, you may have felt unsure and inexperienced. The words didn’t flow as effortlessly as you hoped, and you questioned whether you had what it takes to become an author. But let me tell you, those doubts are unfounded.

Writing is an art that requires practice and patience. Just like any other skill, it takes time to hone your craft. Each book you write will be a stepping stone towards improvement. You will learn from your mistakes, experiment with different techniques, and discover what works best for you. Don’t be discouraged by the initial struggles or setbacks you may encounter. They are all part of the learning process. Embrace them as opportunities for growth and keep pushing forward. Remember, even the most accomplished writers started from humble beginnings.

As you write more books, you will gradually find your rhythm. You will develop a writing routine that suits you best, whether early mornings or late nights, in a cozy café or a quiet corner of your home. This routine will help you establish discipline and allow your creativity to flow more freely. Finding your method is another exciting aspect of your writing journey. You will experiment with various approaches, such as outlining or writing by the seat of your pants. You will discover what planning techniques work for you and what kind of structure helps you stay focused. Embrace this experimentation and trust that you will find the method that brings out your best work.

Perhaps the most rewarding part of your writing journey will be finding your voice. It’s the unique way you express yourself through your words, the distinctive tone and style that make your writing yours. This voice will evolve with time and experience, becoming stronger and more refined. It will be an authentic reflection of who you are as a writer. So, my younger self, don’t worry. Embrace the journey of writing and trust in the process. Each new book you write will be an opportunity to improve your skills, find your rhythm, develop your method, and discover your voice. Enjoy the ride, and remember that the best is yet to come.

MY REVIEW

The title, What I See Is Love, is exactly what you’ll see in this precious children’s book.  A young girl starts each day with a delicious breakfast and a good morning kiss before being sent off to school. Her day is filled with acts of kindness and love from people she encounters up to and including bedtime. The illustrations are colorful and fun and show the many ways the little things can mean so much.

I came away from this feeling so good. So hopeful. And it made me think I should stop and smell the roses more often. Notice those small, everyday things that meant much more than I realized.

A treasure for kids and adults, this would be a perfect family read to enjoy over and over again.

Meet Author Gabriella Fiorletta:

Gabriella Fiorletta studied English literature at the University of South Florida. She is a former teacher, guidance counselor, and stay-at-home mom. When she is not reading a book to her three young children, you can find her enjoying the beaches of sunny Florida, cooking her favorite Italian meals, or planning her family’s next RV adventure. Writing a children’s book has been a dream of hers since she was a little girl. One night when she was tucking her daughter Charlotte into bed, she pointed to her mom’s heirloom necklace and said, “Mom, when I look at you, I see love.” With that, the foundation of Gabriella’s first children’s book was laid.

MY REVIEW

Oh, what a fun book about counting!  I love dogs and sausages and the book is filled with fun, cute illustrations of dogs and what they do with the sausages. Ten sausages sitting on the kitchen table, unsupervised. Ten hungry dogs, drooling. As you can imagine, they cause a mess.

It’s all about counting and is such a delightful way to learn as your child finds which dogs have sausages, how many and which have none. Warning: some sausages are hidden by sneaky dogs. And so many different dogs too.

Picture you and your family huddled together as you count along. I was grinning ear to ear while turning each page and very much recommend this book to all families.

MY REVIEW

I’m sure many of you have wished you could have the power of invisibility. I did.

This delightful book told in poetry has boldly colored illustrations filled with fun ideas about what a young boy would do if he were invisible. There is so much to see on each turn of the page. The author posed some interesting question that made me wonder about the good and bad of being invisible.

I’d recommend this as a family read so you and your young ones could ask each other what you’d do if you could be invisible.

MY REVIEW

I learned so much following Sammy and Scarlett, two small fish, as they join up with Howie the turtle, traveling from their tidal pool to the Florida Keys and the barrier reef. The beautiful illustrations made me feel like I was under the sea with them, learning about other sea creatures, such as which ones are safe and which are dangerous. And about the perils created by human’s throwing their trash in the sea.  Scarlett saved Howie from certain death when he mistook a plastic bag for a jellyfish.

I love being around and in the water and enjoy the creatures of the sea when I come across them. This book was a learning experience as much as an adventure and with each turn of the page I was more and more captivated.

Author Interview
.

Question #1: What made you decide to focus your children’s books upon the environment?

Answer: In my opinion the human race has more than demonstrated their inability to protect this planet and the irreplaceable animal lives and resources within the natural world. Influential voices such as the late great Jacques Cousteau and Sir David Attenborough have been raising concerns about environmental protection for half a century. Still humanity forges ahead.  Education of the younger generations is vital to making a difference because it is not too late to save the planet.

Question #2: Where do you get inspiration for your stories?

Answer: Inspiration for my stories comes from spending time out in the environment and observing the dynamics of what’s happening all around us. Whether you are hiking through the desert, a great forest or down the beach, just stop and see what’s around you. Nature is everywhere. The greatest show on earth.

Question #3: Do you ever get writers block?

Answer: Yes, like all writers I do. My approach to this occurrence is rather unusual though. When I get a block, I simply relax a bit and move onto another activity. People eat when they are hungry and sleep when they are tired because their inner voice directs them to do so.  My inner voice also tells me when it’s time to write. I largely adhere to the phenomenal advice of Stephen King in his best-selling book “On Writing”’.  One of his tips that works for me is if I have an idea even a fleeting one during my busy day when not writing, I write it down for later reading. This absolutely works.

Question #4: Do you believe that your books could positively influence children?

Answer: Absolutely. My books are intended to be a multi-generational call to arms on environmental protection. Meaning that younger children can have the books read to them by family members and once the children can read themselves, perhaps they will read the books for the enjoyment of themselves and others. The stated goal therefore is “To help inspire children and their families to put down the electronics, get off the couch and learn how to make a difference in protection of the natural world”. Small steps in the right direction can be as simple as recycling properly, leave no litter after family picnics and cookouts…  Bigger steps could include donate time and money to local cleanup activities, become active in coral and or forest restoration volunteer activities…

Question #5: What is your next writing project?

Answer: My fourth children’s book will be in stores this fall. It’s a fun story set in the ever-stunning Florida Keys. I am well into the writing of my first novel for adults. More to come.

MY REVIEW

Just imagine burping and turning into a seven foot tall furry monster. That’s just what happens to Max. And that’s where my love for this series began. Taking bodily functions, often embarrassing ones, and making it fun for kids and adults to read about makes these must read books.

I’m jumping into the series without having read the previous books but that didn’t spoil my fun. I am curious to go back and meet Max and his friend Peregrine and his cat Frankenstein, who lives up to his name.

Enter Fangborn, an evil werewolf bent on ruling all. Max and his gang must stop him and his pack of furry, fanged ones.

What a fun adventure. And the illustrations are colorful and adorable. Surely a book and series to add to any child’s book self.

About Author Robin  Bennett

When Robin grew up he thought he wanted to be a cavalry officer until everyone else realised that putting him in charge of a tank was a very bad idea. He then became an assistant gravedigger in London. After that he had a career frantically starting businesses (everything from dog-sitting to cigars, tuition to translation)… until finally settling down to write improbable stories to keep his children from killing each other on long car journeys.

Robin plays most sports. Poorly.

  One Polar Bear

by Crystal Beach

Genre: Children’s Fiction

Synopsis

One Polar Bear is a delightful rhyming book filled with lovable animals from the Canadian Arctic. Polar Bear is home sick and alone. His many animal friends drop by to cheer him up. This counting story celebrates individuals with a variety of abilities and disabilities, and the text helps teach the numbers one to ten. Canada is a country made up of many peoples and cultures. This book reflects this diversity by featuring the word “welcome” in different languages amongst its pages. One Polar Bear is a wonderful bedtime story and a beautiful way to educate and celebrate the differences in our world.

MY REVIEW

Such a delightful book. Animals of the Arctic visit a homesick polar bear and I love how this correlates with counting on each page. If your child is on page six, they can have fun counting six of each animal featured. I had fun and so will you and your children.

Told in rhyme, the story rolls of the tongue. The illustrations are colorful and cute. And the author did something else I enjoyed. On each page the word Welcome is included. I learned some new ones. And many of the visiting animals have injuries or disabilities. Having a son with a disability, I found this especially heart warming and inviting.

A clever, fun story perfect for bedtime reading. I’m sure children will be wanting to read it or have it read to them again and again.
