Hunt of the Gods
Areios Brothers #2
by Amy Braun
Genres: Adult,Urban Fantasy
Publication date: June 4th
2019
hunt of gods about the book
Two months have passed since Derek Areios—war-scion and heir of
Ares—and the band of rogue scions he’s aligned with recovered
both the Thunderbolt of Zeus and the Heart of the Devourer and
returned them to the Gods. During the battle, Derek discovered he
could control not only the element of fire, as all war-scions can,
but also the dark element “aether,” making him the only scion
alive to wield two types of elemental magic.
Commanded by Zeus
to retrieve the Trinity Weapons and the Shards of Cronus, Derek and
the rogue scions are thwarted in their goal by a gang of water-scions
with a grudge against one of the rogues—Thea, heir of Poseidon.
Both groups travel to an uninhabited island to recover one of the
Shards––the Eye that belonged to Cronus, King of the Titans. But
what they encounter will lead them down a path of brutal betrayals,
hard truths, painful memories, and desperate actions.
With angry and impatient gods breathing down his neck, a curse that
allows
Ares to control him, a prophecy he’s desperate to avoid, a magic
spear corrupting his thoughts, and two forms of elemental magic,
Derek has a lot of baggage—and a lot of power. Will the price of
using that power to satisfy the Gods be too much for him to pay?
Mythological monsters, explosive magic, and devastating
truths take center stage in the second novel of the action-packed
AREIOS BROTHERS series from Amy Braun.
You can find book 1, Storm of the Gods here!

I’m thrilled to share the cover reveal for Strange Blood. I’ve watched so many vampire movies. Have a fondness for those old black and white ones. But I also love the new ones with all the special effects. Strange Blood is a collection of essays about vampire movies. Some you may have seen. Some you might never have heard of. And some contain vampires in guises you probably never imagined. I’ll be reading this and sharing my review and am excited to share the fabulous cover art for this collection!

STRANGE BLOOD: 70 ESSAYS ON OFFBEAT AND UNDERRATED VAMPIRE MOVIES

EDITED BY VANESSA MORGAN

Genre: horror, vampires, movies, non-fiction

Cover design: Gilles Vranckx

Release date: April 2019

strange blood-cover-reveal

Blurb

This is an overview of the most offbeat and underrated vampire movies spanning nine decades and 23 countries.

Strange Blood encompasses well-known hits as well as obscurities that differ from your standard fang fare by turning genre conventions on their head. Here, vampires come in the form of cars, pets, aliens, mechanical objects, gorillas, or floating heads. And when they do look like a demonic monster or an aristocratic Count or Countess, they break the mold in terms of imagery, style, or setting.

Leading horror writers, filmmakers, actors, distributors, academics, and programmers present their favorite vampire films through in-depth essays, providing background information, analysis, and trivia regarding the various films. Some of these stories are hilarious, some are terrifying, some are touching, and some are just plain weird. Not all of these movies line up with the critical consensus, yet they have one thing in common: they are unlike anything you’ve ever seen in the world of vampires.

Just when you thought that the children of the night had become a tired trope, it turns out they have quite a diverse inventory after all.

What do ya think? Can you guess what the monster with the big teeth might be?

Let’s have some fun. Can you write a teaser for the book? Just a sentence or two. I’ll go first.

It slumbered under the frozen tundra. It’s sleep disturbed, now it emerges, ravenous and ready to feed. The pristine snows of Antarctica will soon be painted red.

– Jack –
.

“Wake up, Jack. We’re moving out. Your assignment is done.”

My commanding officer barks his orders out, jolting me awake. I open my eyes and try to focus as the dawn barely lights the room around me.

“What do you mean, done? Last night we were waiting on the search warrants. We had the whole family. It was going down… today.” Propping myself up on my elbows, I shake my head, trying to will myself to catch up.

Going over the last few days in my head, this doesn’t make sense. I’ve been on the ground with my unit for months now working special ops undercover with local law enforcement on a federal level, collecting whatever evidence we could and rounding up witnesses. Everything finally began to snowball together three days ago.

First one witness came forward, then a second, then the third came in with solid proof. With Port Thomas being a smaller city nestled near the coast in Oregon, law enforcement is always underfunded so they were thankful for the additional manpower, as long as we didn’t step on too many toes.

We had our mission in place for today, but this wasn’t how it was supposed to go.

“It blew up. Shit went down a few hours ago. Apparently, they knew we were coming. The Sparr family is gone. All of the evidence against them is now speculative. Four witnesses are dead. Another two are missing.” Then, as he opens his mouth, I see the hesitation in his eyes as his body physically braces for a fight.

“Jack.” My commander starts then stops, carefully considering his words with a frustrating pause. “It’s Jessa. Both her and her brother’s bodies are missing.”

“What do you mean, missing?” Then the weight of his words hits me. “Wait. What do you mean, bodies?” I bolt out of bed onto shaky legs as I feel my world begin to crumble piece by piece.

He chose his words carefully. She isn’t missing.

Her body is missing.

“Her family was in a car accident just outside of town at the bridge. It looks like they went over the cliff. Her parents’ bodies were recovered from the ravine along with the car. We don’t know yet if it’s related but three other people from the company are dead as well. It was a quick job.” He glances around my area as I feel panic begin to flow through my veins.

“Maybe Jessa and Travis weren’t in the car. Did you check their house?” I counter in a desperate attempt to think of something they haven’t yet.

Thoughts quickly come to me. I just saw both Jessa and Travis yesterday. We were all talking about how fast our high school grad is coming up in a few months. For siblings, they are almost inseparable. Twins who look nothing alike but finished each others sentences at every turn.

When I started this undercover op, six months ago, I never expected to meet someone like Jessa. I was just a kid myself at 23 and I was five years older than her and her brother. But I fit into their senior year in high school. No one knew my secret.

Everything about Jessa just fit for me.

And now they are both missing.

“We’ve been to the house and the hospital. We retrieved the car an hour ago. The back side window was broken out from the inside. We found her school bag in the back seat. And before you ask, we already have over half the team in on the search. We’ve been working with the local guys and they have all of her information. We’re checking the river banks as well as the water. Anyone making it out will be found, unless…” His voice trails off in realization that he said too much, but I pick up where he left off.

“Unless they got pulled under and sucked down the rapids.” I feel my empty stomach clench tight.

His eyes stay locked on me as I pause to gather my thoughts then, without pretense, my body involuntarily spins to get dressed and go after Jessa and that’s when I notice them.

Two men standing behind my commanding officer.

“Look, Jack. We know you and Jessa became close but you need to let the team handle it. Finding her and her brother is their priority while we’re still here. Our mission still stands though and your orders are to pack up and let them do their job.” His attempt at pacifying me is beginning to speak to a part of me that I don’t want to show as the way he trivializes my feelings for her ignites my fight or flight reflexes.

We didn’t become close.

She was it.

She was everything.

She was mine and after the arrests were made, I was coming for her. I was going to come clean about everything. I was going to tell her I was undercover and older than she thought I was. I was going to ask her to forgive my secrets and I was going to tell her I loved her.

Now she’s gone.

.
Piercing light bloomed from the totem scale. It swept over me and took away my pain, molding and stretching me into my full dragon form. The instant the searing energy coursed through my body, I launched myself into the sky.
I didn’t have a single second to waste.
Now that I was a beast of comparable size, I crested the skyscrapers in a few powerful beats of my wings. From a few blocks away, the wyvern spotted me. It let out a howl of fury as it surged straight
for me. I answered with a battle cry of my own, driving more and more power into every beat of my mighty black wings.
Two F-22 fighter jets rolled in on either side, joining me in aerial formation. Their engines roared, and both pilots gave me a confirming thumb’s up. They were following me in for the attack.
I’d never felt so cool in my entire life.
I clashed with the wyvern in the air over Central Park, clamping my jaws around his throat. I prepared to give him a taste of my lightning, the same way I had the crocodile monster. One good jolt
and maybe I could bring him down.
Before I get a good grip, he swung his spiked tail and whacked me across the eyes. I let go, snatching back with a roar.

He dove at me; his toothy mandible jaws open wide to rip my throat out.
A sudden plume of fire scorched his hide and sent him reeling. I drew back, wary of the blistering flames.

Another giant dragon clashed in battle, had scales as red as fresh blood and a ridge of tall, slender black spines all the way down her back. My breath caught. Madeline? She’d gone full-form, too?
She attacked the wyvern mercilessly, pinning him under another blast of her fiery breath.

Shaking off the blow to my head, I charged headlong back into the fight, lightning sizzling and popping off my open jaws. We had to get him on the ground. If we could pin him there, he’d be within range of ground fire and an easier target for our air support. We could contain the damage to the rest of the city, too.
So I went for one of the wyvern’s wings full-force.

Fyurei had him distracted. He never saw me coming. I swooped in to break one of his wings at the shoulders with a single powerful crunch of my jaws and sharp jerk of my head. The creature screeched and kicked, floundering with his one good wing and swinging his tail like a medieval mace. The bulbous, spiky tip struck one of the F-22 jets and sent the aircraft flipping through the air end
over end. Not good. I watched the aircraft fall, waiting for the pilot to
eject.

He didn’t.

I didn’t hesitate—I dove straight after the jet, summoning every bit of speed I had. The jet spiraled, smoking and streaking toward the ground. I threw myself the final distance with a desperate cry, jaws open wide.
I caught the tail of the jet in my teeth about a hundred feet shy of the ground. As soon as my jaws clamped onto the metal, I reared back, kicked my legs out, and flared for an emergency landing
right in the middle of the park.
It took a second for the dust, snow, and trees to settle.
Picking the jet carefully out of my mouth, I held it up to my huge dragon eyeball like a little kid’s toy. Inside the cockpit, the tiny pilot was giving me a shaky thumb’s up. He was okay.
I gave him my best dragon smile, terrifying as it probably was, and placed his jet, right side up, on a grassy spot in the park. Then I turned around to get back to business. I still had some wyvern
rear end to roast and an evil headmaster in dire need of reeducation.

reincarnate. He has no way of knowing when or where she will return, or if she
will even look the same in her new life. He must rely on his ability to
recognize the actions of her fiery soul and her knack for attracting a killer

With his will and options quickly fading, Lucas is offered help from an old

With an army raised and a strategy in
place, Lucas is ready to attack, until the sudden appearance of a ghost from
his past appears, forcing Lucas to take an even bigger risk than attempting to
kill a malicious king…letting him live.
WITHER – Prequel to the Hightower
Trilogy
Spera’s amber eyes appear first, burning
two holes in the dark of my sleeping mind. She’s inches from my face, but she
doesn’t see me. No matter how many times this happens, the utter lack of
recognition is a knife in my chest.

“Spera,” I hear my voice rasp, her name
echoing in my skull as she turns away, her black hair blending into the night
that surrounds her.

Another dream. Always the same. Chasing
this dead woman through the dark.

I know how it will end: I’ll wake up
calling for her, begging her to stop, to turn around, to give me any sign she
knows I’m there. She won’t. She never does. But I have to follow her. The ache
in my chest grows deeper the farther she goes from me. So, I follow after her,
Spera navigating shadows like a ship through still water. I follow in her wake,
always trailing, always two steps behind.
She startles me by breaking into a run.
She’s never run before. Her bare foot touches the ground, and the black surface
turns white. In an instant, snow is falling, blanketing the ground at an
incredible rate and speckling her hair with tiny white dots. Another step, and
the world around us pulses as the snow gives way to the greens and browns of a
forest, trees thick as houses. Another step and the shadows return. The side of
her face appears. Her lips part and air rushes out. Her elbows pump as she
strides faster, harder.

“Wait!” I bolt after her. My conscious
wrestles with the dream, threatening to roust me from this place. My focus
clings to the outline of her bare shoulders, to the glint of light from sources
unknown playing off her dancing hair. I want to stay where I can see her.

Before my eyes, the color of her hair
shifts from black to brown, and then to red. The length shortens, and then
spills long down her back again, now changing to blonde.

“Spera! It’s me! It’s Lucas! What’s
happening to you? What does this mean? Let me help you!” I cry out.

She veers hard to the left and a ray of
light pierces the dark, illuminating her side. She runs toward it. Her image is
reduced to an outline as she eclipses the glow. I scramble to keep up. We turn
again and the light fades, revealing an inky blue backdrop. The ground turns
cool and damp on my bare feet. A roar grows overhead. The scent of salt fills
my nose. The sensations are so vivid I have to remind myself I’m asleep.

I force my gaze away from her for a
moment and look up at the blue walls, which quiver with instability. Water.
We’re standing between two bodies of water that stretch so high I can’t discern
where the water ends and the sky begins. A single bead of ocean water trickles
down the left side to the black sand at my feet and my heart begins to pound.

Tanzy’s journey races toward an explosive end in Wayward, the third book of the
Hightower Trilogy.

Tanzy Hightower has crossed the veil between the Seen and Unseen worlds. She is now
the only mortal in a land teeming with creatures who want her dead. To stay
alive long enough to stop Asher and seal the door between worlds, she is forced
to accept his marriage proposal and seek refuge inside his fortress. Tanzy is
certain she can withstand any offers he makes to tempt her into opening the
door, but he possesses a bargaining chip she could never have imagined.

On the Seen side of the veil, Tanzy’s allies are fragmented, lost, and leaderless. They
must learn to work together as they gather more candidates and begin training
to defend their world against unfathomable predators poised to strike should
the veil holding them at bay dissolve. While Tanzy has accepted her own
inevitable death in fulfilling her destiny, her closest friends refuse to stop
searching for the impossible: a way to save Tanzy’s life.

A choice will be made. The veil will change. The worlds as Tanzy knows them will never be the
same.

WAYWARD – Book 3 in the Hightower
Trilogy
(Told from Tanzy’s point of view)
Asher’s realm stretches in front of me: a diamond tundra,
the air a series of rainbows as light is refracted from the prismatic ground
and reflected a million times over. The sight is impossible, glorious,
breathtaking…
But my mind, my focus, my every nerve ending is centered on
what—on who—is behind me; the king of this realm—Asher. His breath warms the
base of my neck, and the heat from his body is near enough to send shivers up
my spine. He baited me into a third kill by sending a phony candidate to attack
Jayce. Jayce—who fought for me, and fought like hell for the truth—always the truth. Jayce, who might be
dead, whose blood covered Reese’s shirt when she was forced through the veil
with me after I killed Genesis.
In this moment, I have two truths: One—I must kill Asher,
even though I have no idea how. Two—if I lose ground to Asher, I will not
regain it.
My body explodes into motion. My heel aims for the dip between
his thigh and his knee. Asher is faster, dropping his leg back. My momentum
carries me too far forward. I stumble sideways and brace for the blow I’ve left
myself open to receive.
It doesn’t come.
I fight the urge to back away. I can’t run from him—there’s
no point, and I swore I would never again back down in his presence. A stupid
oath, in hindsight, but it sounded good at the time, and I am roughly
ninety-five percent certain he won’t kill me here and now. I also vowed to live
long enough to seal the veil between our two worlds. In this moment, with that
five percent feeling bigger by the second, I’m not sure I can keep both
promises.
In white linen pants and a fitted t-shirt, Asher doesn’t
look dressed for a fight. He puts his hands in his pockets and saunters closer,
a smile on his white lips, sunlight gleaming in his black hair. “We both know
you can’t kill me on my side of the veil, Tanzy. And if I wanted you dead, I’d
simply leave you for the Taigo,” he says. “Any of them would be very eager to
collect the bounty their leader has placed on your head.”
“I’m an Unseen now. No one can kill me here but you,” I
retort, clenching my hands so he won’t see them tremble. I wonder if they’re
still stained with Genesis’s blood.
Asher’s brow lifts in amusement at my misinformation.
“You’re not Unseen. You are very capable of dying.”

About Jadie:

Young-adult author.
Equine professional. Southern gal. Pacific Northwest Transplant. Especially
fond of family, sunlight, and cookie dough.
I wrote my first book
in seventh grade, filling one hundred and four pages of a black and white Mead
notebook. Back then I lived for two things: horses and R.L. Stine books. Fast
forward nearly twenty years, and I still work with horses, and hoard books like
most women my age collect shoes. It’s amazing how much changes… and how much
stays the same.
The dream of publishing a novel has hitch-hiked with me down every other path I’ve taken
(and there have been many.) Waitress, farm manager, road manager, bank teller,
speech writer, retail, and more. But that need to bring pen to paper refused to
quiet. Finally, in 2009, I sat down, pulled out a brand new notebook, and once
again let the pictures in my head become words on paper.
As a child, my grandfather would sit me in his lap and weave tales about the Cherokee nation, and a girl who belonged with horses. His words painted a whole new world, and my mind
would take flight. My hope – my dream – is that Tanzy’s journey does the same
for you.

What Readers are Saying:

A heartfelt romance with a powerful message about the sanctity of human life. If you’ve ever simply needed a friend, The Songs That Brought Me Back will resonate–and leave you thankful for the people in your life. -Taylor Dean, author of I’m With You and Chasing Fireflies.

Another remarkable read by Mylissa Demeyere. Ethan and Ainsley had me laughing and crying as they face their own demons and fall in love while doing it. This book adds even more depth as it confronts suicide head on. Suicide has become an epidemic that some are afraid to address; Demeyere brings it to light from both the victims and the survivors giving us insight on the struggles of so many. It does not disappoint and I, again, am excited to see what comes next from this talented writer. – Amazon Reviewer

A beautiful sequel to The Songs of You and Me that cleverly illustrates that there are always two sides to every story and that it is never too late for love to overcome any challenge. – Amazon Reviewer

“This poignant redemption story about second chances and forgiveness yanked my emotions all over the place. I cried, I yearned, I hoped. A beautiful story about what true love is and does.” – Charissa Stastny, author of Between Hope and the Highway and The Ruled Out Romance Series

Exhaling, the prince took him off guard as he lifted his eyebrow. “What I don’t understand is how the Faes have achieved such loyalty. What did they do?”

He chewed his bottom lip as he hopped over a fallen tree trunk. He looked to Marquis. “They were the dreamers in a time when culture, creativity, and equality were being butchered. The Academy was the foundation of that dream, for desolates, for the people with weaker abilities. For everyone. The people of Kiero followed Roque because they can’t fear him, they can only admire him. How brave he was for standing up to his father, for breaking free of his reign to start his own.”

Marquis chewed his lip. “It sounds like you have a different opinion of him.”

He threw out his hands. “I was born at the Academy. Raised in the Academy. Who am I to doubt the intentions of the Faes? They are practically family.”

Shrugging, Marquis cooed, “Sometimes it is the ones closest to us that betray us first.”
