Just because it’s crazy busy at work doesn’t mean I’ll be too tired to read. I’ll get up earlier, stay up later, but dang it, I’ll get in some reading! LOL

I did read and finish a bunch of books this week. I also wrote a kazillion reviews. Well, not that many but it sure felt like it. I have eleven reviews written for next week! Some of them are a series.

I was wondering about how ya’ll write your reviews. How long does it take you? Do you take notes? Do you wing it? Do you write the review right after you finish the book or do you wait and let the story simmer? Or, do you wait to the last minute?

I’ll admit to all of the above! It depends on my mood, I guess. But, I’ve been on a roll and read some great books, so the reviews have been easy to write.

It’s getting late and I’ll soon to be heading to bed to get some more reading done. I hope you enjoy the books I’m sharing and make sure you check out the freebies. I chose from all genres so there’s something for everybody.

I’ll be hopping over to check out your Sunday posts so be sure to leave me your link!

So, what did you get to read this week?

Got any recommendations?

I’d love to know and thanks so much for visiting fuonlyknew.

  1. Oh my goodness, that’s a LOT of books you added this week, Laura!Several of them look amazing, and I had to chuckle at the Zombie Christmas one. I hope you’ll enjoy them all.

I read on my kindle most of the time, so I highlight passages I enjoy – some books have so many highlights it’s difficult to choose a few quotes to include in my reviews, while others only have a couple. I try to write my reviews quite soon after reading the book, so it’s still fresh in my mind. But it doesn’t always work like that.

Have a fantastic week, and happy reading.

    • fuonlyknew says:

      I love my zombies! LOL
I do highlights and then don’t check them. Sometimes I use notes and sometimes I don’t Guess it just depends on the story and it’s length.

  2. Wow, so many tempting books. Love the cover on See No Evil…and all the covers caught my eye.

I write my review right after I finish reading…I don’t often take notes, but when there are multiple characters, I might jot down their names.

I usually start a Word doc with the summary and a few thoughts when I am 2/3 of the way through…and then finish filling it all in afterwards. Therefore, it takes less than half an hour to write, post, etc.

Otherwise, I don’t know what I’d do if I waited…I might forget important things, and don’t want to have to keep detailed notes…LOL.

Thanks for sharing…and for visiting my blog.

    • fuonlyknew says:

See No Evil is on my kindle! I had to grab one or two of those freebies:)
I wish I was that responsible. I’m all over the place on when and how I write them.

  3. I don;t have a system for reviewing. I actually don’t like to say “reviewing,” I like to say I “write” about a book. Reviewing feels to me like I have some “qualification” for reviewing; like my opinion is somehow granted license to be important.
Mostly I try to take notes, but usually I just say what I think and felt. The better written a book is the less I have to say, because it is flowing and seamless.
What takes the longest is 1. the graphics and 2. setting up all the other stuff in the post: the book info, the links and the synopsis. I need to get my site all set up until after the New Year this week.

  4. Emma says:

Wow. I am impressed by how much reading and reviewing you do.
I read Bloodstorm by Amber Kallyn a few years ago and loved it. I dove into the sequel as soon as I could too.

  5. Greg says:

Wow, you do have a nice mix! You weren’t kidding! As for reviews, I do take notes sometimes, and I usually write them right after I read a book… although not always. Although oddly enough, I frequently don’t look at notes and just write what I think… but they’re there if I need a reminder about this or that.

And good for you for finding time to read. We have t do what we have t do. 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I spent two days and several hours shopping for freebies to share. Good thing I don’t grab all of them or my kindle would explode.LOL
I’m that way about notes. Lot’s of times I hardly glance at them. Especially if the story is great.

  6. Wow so many books, I saw some I own on my nook or kindle and others I want to add..lol. Yes..no matter what is going on in life..reading needs to be done somehow..some way!

  7. For some reason that Voracious book calls to em. Hmmm…lol I’ll also be reviewing Nero’s Fiddle this week. Loved it! As far as writing reviews goes, I tend to let books pile up, realize they have piled up, panic slightly, sit down and write a bunch of reviews then read some more. Wash, rinse, repeat. lol

    • fuonlyknew says:

I got everything I wanted with Nero’s Fiddle. The series is great!
I sometimes do that. In fact, I just did and have finally finished writing 13 reviews. Just tweaking them now and then done. I don’t want to get lazy with them:)

  8. I prefer to write reviews asap as I find it easier that way. But sometimes pesky things like work get in the way and I have to wing it! I do highlight (ebooks) a lot and with a physical book I flick through to remind myself of what I wanted to say.

  9. Lola says:

I don’t take notes while reading and write my reviews right after I finish the book if possible. Or at leats before I start a new book. It works for me. Nice haul you have this week!

  10. Congrats on your win! And dang, you got a lot of books.

As for how I review, like you it depends on my mood. I try to write them fairly soon after finishing the book but it doesn’t always happen. I am trying to write and schedule more in advance with mixed success.

    Have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

      Thanks so much.
I was trying to schedule ahead and that fell apart when I had to move my blog. Now I’m playing catch up with reviews and reading new books at the same time. Isn’t it grand!

  11. I used to take notes for reviews but don’t anymore, in general I’ll write it after I finish the book and within 24 hours (though sometimes they take longer than that) I don’t really have a formula for it either I just write out my thoughts on the book, one time I may focus on the characters, others on the themes, others on the setting, depends what takes my fancy!

I read Firefly earlier this week and really enjoyed it, I’ve read a fair bit of Jen Minkman’s work and have enjoyed all of it!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m hoping to read Firefly this weekend.
My reviews are like that too. Sometimes I’m more about the plot and sometimes the characters. I love a good character driven story:)

  12. I always tell myself I’ll write the review immediately, but it usually doesn’t get written for several days or even weeks. (Occasionally months!) It usually depends on how much free time I have; when there’s not much, I’d rather spend it reading than writing a review.

  13. I try to write a review as soon as I finish reading something. I found that if I don’t, the motivation to write a review dwindles as time goes by. Sigh.

Book of the Dead looks good – I’ll have to check it out!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I know how that is. LOL
I spotted Book of the Dead on a blog and went to Netgalley to see if it was available and it was! Can’t wait to get started on it.

  14. katarguelles says:

Wow, you got a lot of great books! I went to Netgalley this week too (I couldn’t help it) and I requested my first ARC from Edelweiss (the website is really different from Netgalley so we’ll see if I get approved).

For my reviews I am guilty of doing all of the above. I write notes or highlight pages while I read so I don’t forget to mention it in my review. I try to write the review before moving on to another book, but that doesn’t always happen.

I hope you have a great week and enjoy your new books!!

  15. readerbuzz says:

I drink some coffee, set the books to-be-reviewed on the kitchen table, and start writing. I’m always happier with the result if I have taken some notes.

  16. Ocean Swept sounds good, hope you enjoy

  17. RaeAnne is a really great author. I’ve only read one of her books, but the story is emotional. Happy Reading this holiday.

  18. pagesandtea says:

Wow, so many upcoming reviews, you’ve been really busy!
Sometimes with reviews I’ll take notes, but then find if it’s a book I’ve really loved I’ll just start writing and go with the flow. Sometimes I need to write it straight away (when I can’t wait to talk about the book) and sometimes I’ll leave it a day or two before I start, so I don’t have any set routine really.

Hope you enjoy all your new books.
Can’t wait to read your Zombie Christmas review, that’s sounds like something I would read!

    • fuonlyknew says:

You sound like me. Especially when the book is so good I have to talk about it. Since I can’t spoil it, I talk in my review. LOL
I loved all of the zombie holiday stories.

  19. The Book of the Dead looks so amazing! The cover! SO many upcoming reviews! It usually takes me forever to get around to writing a review because there’s the formatting and all that other “awesome” stuff. The reading is the fun part and I don’t have a set time for writing reviews. It varies with how I’m feeling at the moment. I mean, sometimes I’ll write them as soon as I finish a book so I don’t forget any of my feelings and sometimes, I wait a couple of days 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

It usually does come down to the book and how much you enjoyed it. I had some that had to be written for tours and were short notice so felt the stress a little this week:)

  20. I’m a little all over the place at the moment with my reviews. I have some that I’ve read a few weeks ago that I still need to write reviews for but I’ve been so busy it’s just had to wait. I normally like to write them before I start the next book and no I don’t write notes while reading unless something sticks out that I have to mention. Have a great week.
    Sharon @ Sharon’s Book Nook!

    • fuonlyknew says:

It seems like I’m all over the place a lot. LOL I never know how long the review will be either. Sometimes I have to cut things out as I get rambling:)

  21. Got some interesting reads. Will have to check out Bones of Others. I used to be good about writing reviews with in a few days reading. But lately I am now so behind on reviews and have to go on my notes. Thanks for stopping by mine. Happy Reading.

    • fuonlyknew says:

Those notes come in handy when you’ve waited a while to write the review. I also sometimes reread the beginning so the story becomes fresh in my mind again.

  22. yvonne473 says:

Wow, lots of great books there.

As for my reviewing, I try to write the review right after I finish reading the book. Otherwise I forget things. I like to do it while it’s still fresh in my mind. I rarely take notes. That kind of ruins the flow of a book for me if I stop to make notes. I just want to enjoy and read it right through so it doesn’t feel like a school assignment or something like that.

    Have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Most of the time I take notes and I always have pen and paper handy. Ideas pop into my head at odd times and places and if I don’t write them down, I forget.

  23. Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday. You’ve got SO MANY books. I don’t think I’m familiar with any of them though. Have a great week! And happy reading!

  24. atothewr says:

I usually just wing my reviews. I kind of write that way as well. I get it out quick and then go back and polish it later. Love that cover to SCEADU. Really stands out. I need to look into that one. Thanks also for giving me a nod.

  25. Iza Bzh says:

Wow, someone’s got more books than me, I feel relieved lol ! And your haul does look great, enjoy it 😉

  26. Naomi @ Nomi’s Paranormal Palace says:

I wing it when I review. I highlight when I read, but never take notes. Sometimes I think I should, but I can’t be bothered. It usually takes about 15 minutes to get my thoughts down, then come back to tidy the piece up.
    Enjoy your new reads.
