The Amateurs

Genre: YA / Mystery
As soon as Seneca Frazier sees the post on the Case Not Closed website about Helena Kelly, she’s hooked. Helena’s high-profile disappearance five years earlier is the one that originally got Seneca addicted to true crime. It’s the reason she’s a member of the site in the first place.
So when Maddy Wright, her best friend from the CNC site, invites Seneca to spend spring break in Connecticut looking into the cold case, she immediately packs her bag. But the moment she steps off the train in trendy, glamorous Dexby, things begin to go wrong. Maddy is nothing like she expected, and Helena’s sister, Aerin Kelly, seems completely hostile and totally uninterested in helping with their murder investigation.
But when Brett, another super user from the site, joins Seneca and Maddy in Dexby, Aerin starts to come around. The police must have missed something, and someone in Dexby definitely has information they’ve been keeping quiet.
As Seneca, Brett, Maddy, and Aerin begin to unravel dark secrets and shocking betrayals about the people closest to them, they seem to be on the murderer’s trail at last. But somewhere nearby the killer is watching . . . ready to do whatever it takes to make sure the truth stays buried.

While most benefit from their currentgifts, Akos and Cyra do not—their gifts make them vulnerable to others’ control. Can they reclaim their gifts, their fates, and their lives, and reset the balance of power in this world?
Cyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. Cyra’s currentgift gives her pain and power—something her brother exploits, using her to torture his enemies. But Cyra is much more than just a blade in her brother’s hand: she is resilient, quick on her feet, and smarter than he knows.
Akos is from the peace-loving nation of Thuvhe, and his loyalty to his family is limitless. Though protected by his unusual currentgift, once Akos and his brother are captured by enemy Shotet soldiers, Akos is desperate to get his brother out alive—no matter what the cost. When Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable. They must decide to help each other to survive—or to destroy one another.

Genre: YA Sci-Fi/Dystopian
Red Queen meets The Hunger Games in this epic novel about what happens when the galaxy’s most deadly weapon masquerades as a senator’s daughter and a hostage of the galactic court.
A Diabolic is ruthless. A Diabolic is powerful. A Diabolic has a single task: Kill in order to protect the person you’ve been created for.
Nemesis is a Diabolic, a humanoid teenager created to protect a galactic senator’s daughter, Sidonia. The two have grown up side by side, but are in no way sisters. Nemesis is expected to give her life for Sidonia, and she would do so gladly. She would also take as many lives as necessary to keep Sidonia safe.
When the power-mad Emperor learns Sidonia’s father is participating in a rebellion, he summons Sidonia to the Galactic court. She is to serve as a hostage. Now, there is only one way for Nemesis to protect Sidonia. She must become her. Nemesis travels to the court disguised as Sidonia—a killing machine masquerading in a world of corrupt politicians and two-faced senators’ children. It’s a nest of vipers with threats on every side, but Nemesis must keep her true abilities a secret or risk everything.
As the Empire begins to fracture and rebellion looms closer, Nemesis learns there is something more to her than just deadly force. How about you? Got a tease? Tell me!
~~~~~
I haven’t read a lot of samplers but I almost always read the excerpt at amazon, if available, before pulling the trigger on a book. It sometimes helps me weed out something I might not like.
It’s Not Me, It’s You looks fun.
I always read the one on Amazon too. For the same reason. The problem is, too often I want to keep reading and if I bought every book, I’d go broke. LOL
Haven’t tried samplers much cause I am afraid I will like it and want to continue and then don’t have the rest of it…lol. I have signed up for First 5 from Epic Reads and in your inbox you get the first five chapters of a book a week. One chapter a day M-F, some I look at and some I don’t depending on if it looks like something I would read. 🙂
I have The Calling and that tease makes me want to get it out and read. Loved a lot of those other teases too!!! 🙂
Stormi
That and then I’d buy every book, Stormi. LOL I want to read many of these now!
I particularly liked the teasers for The Call and Carve The Mark. Great selection of books you have here!
Here’s my teaser for the week.
It looks like we enjoy the same books:)
The Call got my attention – but I’m resolutely looking in the other direction as I MUST get my TBR stack under control! Thank you for sharing:). Here is my TT this week…
https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2016/07/19/teaser-tuesday-19th-july-2016/
A goal of mine was to really work on my TBR. Started the year with a bang but I’ve had some misfires recently!
These all sound great. I’ll be looking for them and hopefully finding complete ARCs. Samples are so frustrating for me. I want the whole thing – not just a taste! My YA teaser this week comes from The Ministry of SUITs by Paul Gamble. Happy reading!
I get the frustration part. I now want to go grab all of these. LOL Great gimmick.
Some of these opening sentences are great hooks! The one for Carve the Mark got my attention instantly.
Carve The Mark grabbed me too. Most of these did.
What fun! Thanks for the taste treats…and here’s mine: “HERE’S TO US”
I wanted to do something with these and you can’t really review them. LOL
Thanks for the shout out! I’m glad they arrived safely!
And thank you for some new books to watch for!
That’s a nice set of reads. You’ve piqued my interest – particularly in bright futures and lambs.
Mine is here: http://www.aliceaudrey.com/?p=14165
All of these sound like books I’d enjoy:)
Ugh!! Can I tell you how jealous I am? I am so excited for all of these titles. Thank you so much for sharing these teasers. 🙂
LOL Looks like more for our TBRs!
Carve The Mark looks great! I hope you are enjoying 🙂
That one seems to be catching everyones eye:)
Sounds like an interesting plot. Thanks for coming by my blog today.
All of them are good nibbles:)
Why haven’t I heard most of the books you mentioned?! Thank you for introducing these titles to me, I’m now very much excited to get my hands on them. And the teasers you shared just make me so impatient! LOL. 😀
I’m with you! Many of these are new to me and my poor Kindle is groaning, no more!
They all look interesting. The Diabolic really caught my eye, cover, and tease. I usually do read the free ones I get. My goal is to not download too much. Read what I have then find more. Doesn’t always work that way, but that is my goal.
A good goal, Anthony. But what about all those books….LOL I usually manage to read a lot of the books I grab. It’s writing those reviews that I don’t do as well. It takes a lot of time.
The Call and Tales of the Peculiar sound fantastic! I’ll have to put them on the TBR list!
They sure do. I’m curious about all of these now.
I can’t wait to read Carve the Mark by Roth. I’m so so excited about it.
I am too and it looks like many others are also!
Oooh I haven’t heard of half of these! I can’t wait for Carve The Mark and that teaser has me all the more excited!!
Carve The Mark is a big hit today. I know I’ll be reading it, and probably all of these now!
Good set of teasers! I liked them all. That TBR list keeps on getting longer and longer.
LOL I hear ya. Every time I think I’m making a dent in it, I add more!
