Teaser

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB at Books And A Beat.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page.
•Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Genre: Contemporary

My teaser from pages 33 and 40 in the paperback.

From Page 33

Okay, before we go any further, you need to know that Judy has a thing about purses. Not the typical girl thing, rather it’s an obsession involving high-end handbags that she considers luck charms.Today’s lucky bag is a pink Burberry.

From Page 40

But this part isn’t about me. It’s about a woman who uses her wits and instincts to survive where most people wouldn’t. She’ll need those skills now, as she steps in the shower, because Timothy is heading down the hall towards her room, keycard in hand. And boy is he pissed…

Synopsis

Most people take comfort knowing their family and friends will remember them after they die. For Susan Shepherd, “remembering” is bullshit. She wants an eternal shrine to her sacrifice: a book that never goes out of print.

Shepherd served her country in the Gulf War, got shot while serving her community as a cop, raised an ungrateful daughter by herself — and for what? A diagnosis of terminal cancer and she isn’t even fifty. If you were in her shoes, you might agree that nothing short of national perpetual acknowledgement will do.

She’s glad you feel that way; she just wrote a memoir and sent a flurry of query letters, hoping a publisher will memorialize her with a best-seller. After hitting Send, she waits not-at-all patiently for an editor to decide if her story will sell enough copies — that is, if her life really mattered.

  1. Sounds interesting, hope you enjoy it.

  2. Kathy Martin says:

This sounds like an interesting story. My teaser this week comes from cozy mystery The Bluebonnet Betrayal by Marty Wingate. Happy reading!

  3. I am intrigued! The character sounds like one I’d be rooting for…and I have a thing about purses, too. LOL.

Thanks for sharing…and for visiting my blog.

  4. sjhigbee says:

That sounds an amazing premise! How are you getting on with it? Thank you for swinging by earlier:)

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m really enjoying it and only just got started! It’s written so differently. Most of it’s her query letter. She pulls no punches and kisses no butts. LOL

  5. Alice Audrey says:

There are an awful lot of people who hit that send button with the exact same sentiments.

  6. Intriguing to know why the purse remark needed to be said.

  7. I’d keep reading. This sounds interesting and I like the blurb. Plus if I had a Burberry purse I’d consider it a good luck charm too!

  8. The teaser didn’t match my initial impression from the cover at all! I like the teaser, though. It looks like it would be interesting and kind of fun. I would love to have the purse. 😉

    • fuonlyknew says:

Yeah, the cover through me off. But I couldn’t resist the premise for this book and it’s fun so far:)

  9. yvonne473 says:

    Sounds like a good one.

  10. Candid Cover says:

This book has such an interesting concept. I think that most of us want to be remembered for something. This character has got lots of spunk and ingenuity!

  11. Eustacia Tan says:

Well…. I would like to be rich enough to have such handbags as lucky charms :p

  12. atothewr says:

Great tease this week especially that second one. Makes me want to read more.

  13. Uh oh, she’s in trouble now. LOL I didn’t get to a TT this week. Been doing a lot of yard work though.

  14. Purses as good luck charms. Love it. Don’t think my husband would agree. haha! 🙂 Sounds like a very entertaining book.

  15. Dan Klefstad says:

Great comments/observations from everyone! Someone commented that the cover threw them off a bit. I gave an author talk recently, and someone who hadn’t read the book yet felt the same about it. The tall building is a major setting for much of the story, and I hoped the photo would invite readers to open the book. However, I am hoping for a second edition one day and welcome ideas for a new cover. Anyone who finishes the book is welcome to contact me on Facebook. Thanks again, all! Dan Klefstad

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m enjoying sharing your book, Dan. The cover works after you read the blurb and especially once you start reading the story.

  16. Wendy Runyon says:

I remember hearing about this book and thinking what a different and interesting premise. How are you finding it so far? The teasers certainly are intriguing. I wonder what Timothy is upset about. Not to mention such an expensive lucky charm, especially if she has more than one depending on the occasion.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I was intrigued by the premise too:) I am really enjoying it so far. Lots more than I was expecting and great protagonist.
