This is my own version of a weekly book haul and all things new on fuonlyknew.

I’m also linking up with The Sunday Post hosted by Kimberly @Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

Sunday Post

Some chit chat.

It’s the second week of February here on the Gulf Coast, and you know what that means?

Laissez les bon temps roulez!

Let the good times roll!

It’s Mardi Gras time!

Friday night saw the first of many parades, starting off with the Conde Cavaliers. People flock in droves to catch beads, toys, and Moon Pies.

Many people believe this celebration originated in New Orleans when in fact, history shows the first celebration was established in 1703 by French settlers in Mobile, Alabama. And we do it up big here.

I’ve been to many parades but not so often now that I’m older. It can be tiring and people go crazy for the trinkets.  I do hope to go to at least one. I’ll brave the crowds, the need for a non- existent bathroom, and the people willing to break my arm to snatch that shiny strand of beads I’ve managed to latch on to right out of my hands. LOL

Have you ever been to a Mardi Gras parade?

Never been to a Mardi Gras parade but they sound good to me! And I did not know that- I always associated it with New Orleans also. Good to know. 🙂

You always have the nice spooky reads! Never Never looks good…

    • fuonlyknew says:

The one’s in Mobile are the safest. I’m hoping I might be able to catch one in New Orleans this year.
I love my spooky reads. LOL

  2. Man, I wish I could go to a parade! That’s a lot of great books you got there!

    Here’s my Sunday Post!

  3. The Mardi Gras stuff sounds fun! But yeah, people get completely crazy over trinkets. We have a fair that comes to town every year, and one year I got to be in the little parade that goes through the fair grounds and throw beads from the float, and I swear it was, like, ridiculously stressful, haha. Whenever any of us ran out of beads, we would literally duck down to the floor out of the line of vision of the crowd just to open a new pack because, if they could see you, people would shout at you and give you death glares if you didn’t have a stupid necklace to throw at them for like five whole seconds lol.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I was in a parade for my sons elementary school and I did the same thing. Hid until I had more goodies to toss. LOL

  4. Anyone who ever messed with me in the supermarket would know better than to try to steal my beads! I’m so not a people person so I think me and Mardi Gras will never become friends!

  5. sjhigbee says:

The Mardi Gras festival sounds wonderful – I could do with some fun and festivity in my life! Hope you have a great week, Laura:).

  6. Never been to Mardi Gras and you’re right I just thought it was a NOLA thing, I didn’t know other places celebrated. I would love to go to it once but I heard they are pretty wild and some times a bit dangerous. Have fun!

You really must have like the Serial Killer book, it’s on my wishlist, but I didn’t know there was so many in the series. 🙂 Enjoy!

    Have a great week!

The ones in Mobile are safer. Never had problems at one. I did enjoy the first Serial Killer book. Have you seen the movie?

  7. Drangonfly says:

Oh I always wanted to go to a Mardi Gras parade!!! Glad to hear you are having fun 🙂 Thank you for reminding me I got Never Never for free and I haven’t read it 🙂

  8. yvonne473 says:

I’ve always wanted to go to Mardi Gras. It looks like so much fun. Have a great week!

  9. Katherine P says:

I have family in Mobile (Spanish Fort area) and they always used to rave about Mardi Gras! I’ve been to New Orleans a few times but honestly Mobile’s sounds more fun and not quite as insane. Enjoy your new reads and have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m in Fairhope. Right on the bay. The parades are safer here. And it’s easier if you are going to the Ball afterwards.

  10. Deborah says:

Oh wow, so many new books – and lots of creepy ones by the look of it.

Mardi Gras looks and sounds like tremendous fun!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Got some good ones. And I do love the creepy books. LOL
Mardi Gras is fun but I don’t go as often. The crowds can be a bit much.

  11. Went to the Conde parade and made a haul with beads and such. I find it funny that they even throw Ramen Noodles. LOL

  12. Taylor Dean says:

I’ve never been to Mardi Gras, but after your description, I think I’d rather watch it on TV!!! I don’t like crowds. Nice bundle of books. I’ve read Never, Never and enjoyed it.

  13. One Mardi Gras parade was enough! Not a big fan of crowds that will do crazy things for trinkets. Hope you have a great week.

  14. Melissa (My World...in words and pages) says:

Oh I’ve always wanted to come down for Mardi Gras! Have a great week!

  15. Emma says:

I would love to go to Mardi Gras. Enjoy.
