The Sea Was A Fair Master
by Calvin Demmer
Genre: Horror / Short Stories Collection
My Review
There’s a slew of short stories in this collection. Some are only a couple of pages long. But don’t let that fool you. Each of these has a beginning and end, with some very nasty surprises for you.
With so many stories, I wasn’t expecting to enjoy them all, but I did. They left me wrung out emotionally, had me leaning towards my Kindle, apprehensive but unable to stop reading, and even had me leaning away, seriously creeped out.
The words atmospheric, malevolent, evil and ominous are just a few words that could describe this experience. There’s also poignant and romantic. Whether you enjoy straight out horror or something a little more, a little strange, I’m sure you’ll find something in here you’ll like.
I can appreciate the author who tackles short stories. To get you to connect to the characters and story with a slim amount of words can’t be easy. Calvin Demmer “mastered” this art and I’m glad I got to read these.

Synopsis
The world’s fate lies with a comatose young girl; an android wants to remember a human she once knew under Martian skies; men at sea learn that the ocean is a realm far different from land, where an unforgiving god rules; a school security guard discovers extreme English class; and a man understands what the behemoth beneath the sea commands of him.
The Sea Was a Fair Master is a collection of 23 stories, riding the currents of fantasy, science fiction, crime, and horror. There are tales of murder, death, loss, revenge, greed, and hate. There are also tales of hope, survival, and love.
For the sea was a fair master.

Thanks so much for visiting fuonlyknew!

Since it has crime and horror mixed in with the other stories, I think the black cover is more appropriate. But really they are both good covers, easy to read the title when the image is small.
I like both of them too. Hard to choose a favorite!
I’m a shark fan so I prefer the second cover!
I had a feeling you’d like that one with the shark! The first one has some kind of creatures on it. Wonder what that is?
I’ve been seeing this one EVERYWHERE and it seems to be getting lots of praise. I might have to take the dive!
These stories went places I wasn’t expecting. It was fun:)
Yay more short stories for pseudo bookworms like me 🙂 LOL sorry Laura I have to smile at the way you described hoe you were “apprehensive but unable to stop reading” and “seriously creeped out.” what is not to love about that experience??? I KNOW YOU LOVED IT! *wink*
I need to video myself reading some books. I wonder what my face would look like. I felt my body leaning forwards and then leaning back. LOL
Interesting to have all the short stories by the same author. Normally this only happens when they make an anthology of novellas from a series. Or an anthology with a common theme by multiple authors. I’m glad you got your creepy you needed to hold your attention. Anne – Books of My Heart
Many of these stories were quite different from each other too. I liked how the author dabbled in different things. Kept me curious.
I love it when collections cover a variety of genres.
Me too. This had a lot to offer!
I like the top one best. I read this one too.
We do like a lot of the same books!
I really love anthologies and totally agree, it’s very easy to appreciate how authors can provide beginnings, middles and ends in such short space of time – we so few words – and then do it all over again with something new!
Exactly! And many of the stories were so different.
