Some chit chat.
I hope ya’ll had a lovely Thanksgiving. I spent mine at home with my son, watching movies and reading and playing games. It’s a five day weekend for me and I’ve been loving it. Even started doing some Christmas decorating. Today is sunny and 70s so I hope to get started on the front of the house while it’s beautiful out. The decorations always look a bit odd to me without snow but I’ll take the warmer climate here any day! LOL
I thought it was time to update you on my green friends. Here’s the seed ball on one of my Sega Palms. You can’t really tell it’s size but it’s big. About two feet around.
Here’s a closer look. You can see the bright orange seeds.
A closer look again. The ball looks almost prehistoric. And when you touch the feathery looking fronds, they are so soft.
As they continue to grow the fronds will open and reveal hundreds of the orange seeds. I hope to have better luck when harvesting them. Last year I did it wrong and didn’t get many to grow. I’ll share the process once I get started, probably late in January.
And here’s Flora. Such a trooper. Still growing even though some temps have dipped down to almost freezing. As long as no ice stays on her leaves, she’ll keep growing. I wish you could see her. You’d appreciate how huge and beautiful she is. To give you an idea, this is only a corner of my house behind her. There’s a cobblestone walkway behind her but she’s gotten so big you can’t find it now. LOL
You can make out the banana trees and they go way above the rooftop and the elephant ears you see behind her have leaves about three feet in size.
The Farmer’s Almanac says we are going to have super cold temps late in the winter. I’m hoping they’re wrong!
Have a fabulous Sunday and brand new week!

Sounds like a pretty good way to spend a long weekend. 🙂 Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving. I love the pics- it’s neat to see how some of those things are growing!
The Cautioners Tale looks fun, and Big Legend- uh oh. Those dudes better turn around. 🙂
It’s been a relaxing long weekend. I sure needed it:) I found some great books this week. And yes, they better turn around. If only to see what gets them. LOL
I love the plant photos 🙂 we’ve already had snow. It’s so nice to see something so green!
Have a great week, Laura 🙂
Most of the shrubs and trees stay green hear. Live Oaks and such. The Pecan trees shed their leaves and succulent plants usually die back til spring. Even the grass is green most of the winter even though it doesn’t grow much. Makes for a very green Christmas:)
The plant photos make me feel warmer. We woke up to frost here in central VA. Brrrr. Happy reading!
It’s sunny and heating up here. I thought it would be cold after some rain passed through. Guess I’ll do some outdoor holiday decorating while it’s toasty:)
Wow, I wish I had your green thumb, The indoor plants I got a month ago have all started wilting already and I have no clue what went wrong this time. I am having a friend coming to check that, so all is not lost yet.
Have a great week ahead.
It might be you are watering them too much. I test the soil and make sure it’s dry before I water them.
I would have loved a nice quiet day with my kid for the holiday. There was no drama at dinner, but I had to work her entire visit EXCEPT Thanksgiving day. Glad you enjoy your time with your son.
I’m sorry to hear that. I’m lucky with my job and dread the idea of having to change it some day.
I love your plant updates! The sega plant looks like an alien find or something. So interesting!
Have a great week!
It does look prehistoric or alien. Would be good to add to a horror movie creature. LOL
Your garden looks so exotic to me Laura! But your banana trees remind me of these I had in our garden when I lived for a few months in Portugal. Happy Sunday!
I remember you mentioning your banana trees. Mine got huge this year but no bananas. Maybe next year.
I own “A Bark in the Night” but haven’t made time to read it. I love looking at all the greenery. Flora is looking great. I’m not a huge fan of snow but do like some at Christmas. Sounds like you had a wonderful holiday!
I read another book in the series and was happy to get the first book free. Flora is gorgeous. I’m hoping she makes it through the winter without dying back but that usually doesn’t happen. This is the largest she’s ever been.
Sounds like you had a nice Thanksgiving. I would prefer the warmer climate, too. I’m hoping to get that someday 🙂 I have the Corgi series. It looks good. Hope you have a great week!
Thanks, It was a lovely week but now it’s back to work. Our warm climate is taking a break. Winter blast is blowing through for a few days and not liking it at all. LOL
I love these updates featuring non-bookish things! Thanks for the cool pictures of your plant
I hope you have a great reading week!
Here’s my Sunday post
I enjoy sharing them. Especially when the seasons change:)
Your palm pictures are so neat! I love seeing the seeds.
Once the seeds are ready they turn this deep magenta. I’m hoping to get a bunch of plants out of them this time.
Such lovely plants and 70! I was happy with 60 here this week. Have a great week and thanks for the tip on the Corgi cozies! Anne – Books of My Heart
Yep. But it’s going to dip to mid 50s during the day and 30s at night for the next couple of days and then heat back up. I hope you try the Corgi Mysteries. They’re so fun:)
Sunny and 70’s sounds nice about now. We’re supposed to have a snowstorm tonight. 🙂
It’s lightning and thunder right now. Supposed to get cold again tomorrow night. Our cold spells come in waves. Hot and cold. LOL
The plants look great! Everything here is dead and under snow. I meant to decorate for Christmas this weekend, but things were busier than I expected. Have a good week!
Got up this morning and the win is howling and the temp is dropping. No snow in the forecast but sure is getting cold!
I just can’t believe Thanksgiving has come and gone already!
Have a great week!

Weekend Review
I hear ya! Christmas will have come and gone before we know it.
Looks like it is Corgi week! But that seems like fun. I love the plants amazing how much the grow. Have a wonderful week.
Mary
Yes indeed, Corgi’s run amok this month. LOL
Sounds like you had a great week – if only it lasted longer. 😉
Best of luck with your plants – I hope they’ll bloom successfully this year!
It was a good week and I sure needed it:)
I’ve had my eye on the Bigfoot Book for a while now but it’s too expensive for my book budget at the moment!
I know. I caved and grabbed the eBook.
Your green friends are looking good! I’m glad you had a nice Thanksgiving, the kind I love: quiet, watching movies, etc.
Enjoy your books. I’m curious about A Dickens of a Crime.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
We are getting some 30s the next couple of nights but I don’t think it will affect them. I hope! It was a relaxing holiday and I sure needed it.
Your plants are fascinating! I love gardening and horticulture even though I have a black thumb. I keep hoping that someday I’ll get better at it. Hope you enjoyed the full long weekend!
It’s a good thing that all I usually have to do is watch these grow! LOL
Lots of goodies, plants, books and a holiday weekend. Hope you had a good one.
sherry @ fundinmental
I did have a good time. I bet you guys did some fun stuff!
Sounds like a nice holiday and what fun to get up the Christmas decorations. I had plans to get mine up this weekend but it didn’t happen so I’m hoping for next weekend. That palm is crazy looking! Definitely prehistoric looking. Have a great week!
I’ve done some decorating inside and outside. Still got a ways to go. Especially hanging lights. Those fronds do look out of this world. So soft too:)
OMG I could write a dystopian saga inspired by that Sega Palm seed ball!!! Two feet??? That mammoth! and wow look at Flora!!! wasn’t she just two tiny leaves no long ago??? how did that happen??? Wow you are good Laura! or something in your soil is good or magical. hummm sounds like a good story too LOL can you tell I’m still in NaNo mode??:) watching movies and reading and playing games is the best way to have thanksgiving! Glad to hear you had a good time!
I know. The seed ball looks like an alien seed pod. LOL And Flora is gigantic. At least four feet tall and close to seven feet around. I’m so excited to read your story. Can’t wait for it to be ready!
So sorry to be so late replying! The Sega Palms look beautiful in their own messy way! It must be lovely to have such big plants like that in your garden -ah the beauty of living in America – so much space! Glad you had a lovely Thanksgiving!
No worries. This is a bust time of year and we all fall of and back on the internet. LOL I have some weird and wonderful plants. I always like tropical and unusual:)
I did pick up the Corgi books and am looking forward to them. Your plants are beautiful. Glad you had a nice holiday!
I really had fun with the series. And fell for the characters, human and other. LOL
