This is my own version of a weekly book haul and all things new on fuonlyknew.

I’m also linking up with The Sunday Post hosted by Kimberly @Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

Some chit chat.

Well. I returned to work this week and it went pretty smooth. Not too busy and I fell right back into the swing of it. I have a very physical job and I sure needed that exercise. I’d been quite lazy for the two weeks I was off.

I’m off to a good start with my reading. Been doing a lot of it and so far I’ve enjoyed every book. Been reading a lot of mysteries and suspense. That happens once in a while. I start a genre and then read until I need to switch to something else. I am starting to feel a call to return to some horror now. I sure have some good reads waiting.

Other than that, not much new. My son and I have started taking walks together. The sun has been shining and it’s been warm so we have the spring fever thing going on. My dog Quigley wants to go with us but he is old and can’t go far so I usually take him by myself.

Almost forgot. I was out cleaning fallen branches from along my fence line and I heard this loud snort. I looked up and there was a buck standing right on the other side of the fence. He wasn’t scared of me at all. In fact, he snorted and shook his rack at me. LOL I know they are randy right now with the rut in season so I froze and waited for him to move off. I could envision him leaping over the fence and chasing me into the house. LOL

  1. Greg says:

Yikes glad the buck didn’t get aggressive. You never know sometimes. And ooh you got Kitty and the Midnight Hour! I just started that series recently and I love it. Hope you do too.

Glad the weather’s been nice. It’s getting cold here now, naturally. 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I was frozen and could just see myself running from him. That buck wasn’t afraid of little old me. LOL A fellow blogger loves the Kitty series so I’m finally going to see what its all about. Gotta a good feeling about it.

  2. That is cool about the buck, but glad the fence was there..sometimes they can be downright aggressive. It is always hard to go back to work, but glad it was a smooth transition. Your haul is awesome and I must inspect the covers that spoke to me. I am in a one-click mood!

    • fuonlyknew says:

He was eyeballing me something fierce. LOL I think if I had moved befroe he did I would have had to run for it. That fence wouldn’t have stopped him. LOL I did haul some books. I actually had several more. Kind of embarrassed at my own one clicking. LOL

  3. I’m glad you’ve been enjoying your books this week. I love it when I’m in this reading groove where every book I seem to pick is just so good. Sigh..
How cool is that?! A buck right in front of you!! Awesome! I definitely would be a little anxious too though. LOL!
Have a great week and happy reading.

    • fuonlyknew says:

It’s been a great start in reading this year. And so many good sounding books to go! That buck was looking for a fight and I wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end. LOL

  4. I hope you enjoy Kitty! By the time I got to book 4 in the series, I got right into it! My reading is going nicely this month and I hope to more or less finish my required reads for the month in the next week and get some mood reads done.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’ve been following your reviews for the Kitty series and decided it was time to jump on board! You have introduced me to some great authors and reads!

  5. Horror, yay! I’m looking forward to your reviews!

  6. Lol, we get a lot of deer near my house and this time of year is always a challenge… Especially when driving through the forest as they seem to lose all sense!

Kitty and The Midnight Hour is on my TBR this year. I really want to read that series.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I live in a rural area and am always mindful of the deer. Most people just fly down the road, oblivious to the damage that could happen to their car, themselves and the unfortunate deer.

  7. Oh my! A buck at the fence, eh? I’m glad he didn’t come over and started chasing you :p
Your new books all look great! I hope you’ll enjoy them.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m glad he didn’t too. The pool was between me and the house and I shudder to think of how shocking that freezing water would have been if I had to jump in there! LOL

  8. sjhigbee says:

Urg – your encounter with the buck sounds far too exciting! Glad it didn’t leap over the fence… Thank you for the featured freebies – I’ve nipped across and got hold of Dark City, which looks great fun – it’s been a while since I’ve read a good urban fantasy whodunit:)). Have a great week, Laura.

    • fuonlyknew says:

This is the second time a buck has approached me at the fence. I guess I’ll wait til after rut season to do anymore exploring near my back fence. LOL

  9. You got some good books this week. The Last Woman in the Forest is on my list. Your encounter with the buck must have been a surprise. My Mom and I were chased by a deer once. Can’t remember if it was a buck, but he or she chased us right to our porch. Hope you have a good week.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I did get some great reads. There are so many good ones releasing this year too! Deer are so pretty and delicate looking but they can do some serious damage!

  10. They are beautiful to see but scary too. I would have panicked and he would have chased me lol

I LOVE K.N. Lee, she is currently my read for one of my challenges. I enjoy all her books. That is on my list for next month to read.

I hope you have a great week, Laura! Happy Reading xx

    • fuonlyknew says:

I just knew if I moved he would jump the fence so I froze until he moved off. I wanted to read something by Lee too and I pre-ordered this one.

  11. I had a similar issue with a deer. I was riding my horse and the doe kept inching closer. I was so scared she was going to all of a sudden take off and spook my horse, but she ended up walking off and I went back to riding like nothing happened. Glad the buck finally walked off too.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I was riding in the foothills in South Dakota and came upon a mule deer. That was scary. They are quite large and it had an impressive rack! It just looked at us with disdain and sauntered off. LOL

  12. Tammy says:

Wow, I’d love to see a buck! All we have in my town are squirrels, possums and the occasional coyote😁

  13. That buck sounds scary…and standing still was the right thing to do. Enjoy all those new books, and the spring days ahead. Thanks for visiting my blog.

  14. What an interesting experience you had to be eye to eye with buck.
I am glad to hear your reading is going great!
    Have a lovely week ahead!

  15. Northwoman says:

Nice haul. I grabbed one of the freebies you shared. Dark City.

It’s great you are easing back into work well and still your reading is going well. Yes, when not scheduled for work, school or other appointments, it is easy to fritter away my time. I hope your week is wonderful! Anne – Books of My Heart

  16. Your encounter with the buck sounds exciting! I’m glad he didn’t charge you, but how thrilling to be that close to one! We see a lot of does and fawns in our neighborhood; sometimes they travel in packs of 4-8 deer. But I rarely see a buck, unless it’s a very young one.

I know what you mean about sticking with one genre, then moving on to another. I used to read that way myself. Blogging has changed that some, but I still do it sometimes.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I see a lot of deer but this was unusual. Guess he was just letting me know who was boss. LOL I read books in a lot of genres and usually mix them up to keep reading fresh. But sometimes I get on a roll with one genre and read a bunch of it:)

  17. Stormi D Johnson says:

Man, you got some great books, I see some I really want. Hope you enjoy them!

    Have a great week!
    Stormi

  18. Glad you are enjoying your walks! We just got 4 in of snow. Enjoy your new books and hopefully you won’t get chased by Bucks!

  19. I’m glad the buck left you alone. I saw one charge at a coyote and chase it away a few months ago. Sometimes the deer around here are scarier than the coyotes. Have a great week!

  20. Yvonne says:

I’d be scared of the buck, but also would find that kind of intiguing. I’ve been having good luck with my reading so far too. Here’s my post https://socratesbookreviews.blogspot.com/2019/01/the-weekend-review-january-12th-14th.html

    Have a great week!

  21. I’m glad you were able to get right back into the swing of things at work. My week was really busy, too, but my brain was having trouble catching up!

  22. herding cats says:

Oh my that would be quite the surprise to look up and find. lol Sounds like a good start to the year 🙂

  23. Beware Of The Reader says:

Chased by a buck LOL Now that would have been a visual Laura! Anyway it may feel like spring in your country but here we just have a grey and wet winter *sigh*. Going back to work tomorrow and I hope my transition will be smooth too!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I could just picture me trying to outrun the buck. LOL It was like spring here. Now it’s darn cold and going to get to freezing by the beginning of next week. Yikes! I want spring so bad. LOL

  24. Even though I’d been in over the Christmas break except for the Bank Holidays the first full week back was a bit of a shock and I don’t do a physical job – here’s to an easier second week for us both…

    • fuonlyknew says:

I like having a physical job. It helps me keep in shape and I find myself more energized. When I have too much time off, I got lazy:)

  25. Rachel @Waves of Fiction says:

Oh my goodness, that buck would give me quite a scare. I love looking at them from a distance but not too close. They can do some damage.

I have The Last Woman in the Forest, too. Hope we both love it!

    • fuonlyknew says:

He scared me but also amazed me. So beautiful! A friend told me I’d love The Last Woman In The Forest. I plan to start it this coming weekend:)

  26. kozbisa says:

Now that I am older, I wish I had gotten a more physical job, doing something outdoors, but you know what they say about hindsight. Glad you were able to get right back into the swing of things.

  27. Oh my gosh! You are so brave! I am not really sure how I would have reacted. My cousin had a similar experience with a moose. Crazy!! Saving Parker looks like a sweet read. I hope that you love it. :

  28. The walks sound nice and how cool about the buck. We had snow this weekend and water issues within our city so it was a pretty non-conventional weekend. Did manage to get some reading done though in between boiling water, visiting Gpa and caring for the pups. I was able to grab Saving Parker this morning for free still so thanks for sharing it!

    • fuonlyknew says:

It’s getting cold here. I long for spring already. LOL I have some good books ready for the Puppy Love Challenge!

  29. You got a lot of wonderful new reads, there. Happy reading!

  30. StackingMy BookShelves says:

Looks like some great books this week and thanks for the freebies. I get to see bucks around me everyone once and awhile. They are so cool and I try not to spook them so I can watch them longer. =)

    Mary

    • fuonlyknew says:

I wish I’d had my phone with me. Might have been able to get some pictures. Then again, it might have just mad him mad. LOL

  31. S. J. Pajonas (spajonas) says:

Wow! Scary to be that close to a deer. We have A LOT of deer around here, but they’re all skittish and run away when people are around.

  32. Glad to hear you are doing well and you and Cole are doing some walking. Gives you lots of time to talk also.
