This is my own version of a weekly book haul and all things new on fuonlyknew.

I’m also linking up with The Sunday Post hosted by Kimberly @Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

Some chit chat.

Wouldn’t you know it. I had two days off in a row and it rained both of them. LOL Not to let that get me down, I took the opportunity to do some serious reading. I read five books! And I’ll be sharing my thoughts about them soon. Each one was a winner for me.

I also caught up on some shows and started a new one. Have any of you watched Glee? I stumbled across it and thought, how fun. Revisit high school. What was I thinking. It took me down memory lane. Some things not good at all, and some things wonderful. And the music! I loved so many of the songs. And the dancing. My feet were tapping each number.

And then on a more serious note. Many leaders in Alabama refused to make it mandatory for everyone to wear masks in public. I understand it’s a tough thing to enforce and raises many questions about people’s rights. But….. since we started reopening businesses, our cases are increasing at such high rates. We have many cases right where I work. Thousands come through there every week and most don’t wear masks even though we do. Wearing masks protects others more than ourselves so I was frustrated. They are hard to breathe through and make you so hot. Our governor made it mandatory to wear masks when in public on Wednesday. I went to work and all of the customers either wore their own or we supplied them with a free one before entering. I was very glad to see this happen.

Stay safe and take care everyone.

I loved Glee when it was in first-run, loved it to the point of knowing way too much about the leads 😉 Been thinking about streaming it but need to let the shock of Naya Rivera’s death wear off first.

Glad your governor is more responsible than mine here in Florida, state of doom.

    • fuonlyknew says:

Three actors from the show have died. So sad. I think the governor stepped up since most city leaders couldn’t seem to make up their minds.

  2. vvb32 says:

Glad you’re keeping safe. Enjoy your latest batch of goodies.

  3. It’s very worrying to hear about all those cases near you but I’m glad that you have access to a mask to help keep you safe. I’ve been wearing a mask since March so I’m very used to them. My part of Scotland has the highest virus rate but it is still pretty low in the grand scheme of things. I’m not taking any chances though. I only go out to my uncle’s house, my dad twice a week maximum to local shops!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’ve been wearing a mask since things started and so glad others are having to do so now. It takes all of us working together to beat this thing.

  4. Ruby's Books says:

Glad you’re staying safe. I agree that masks are uncomfortable, and if you wear glasses, it makes it almost impossible to see, but it’s for protection. I don’t understand how some people don’t think about their own health when deciding not to wear one or they wear it incorrectly. It’s good that they made it mandatory for when outside, so hopefully soon they’ll make it mandatory inside as well. Happy reading and have a safe week.

    My TTT

    • fuonlyknew says:

My glasses do keep fogging up. LOL And I see so many people wearing their masks below their noses. I guess they chose comfort over safety.

  5. Gayathri Lakshminarayanan says:

Finally they had the sense to make it mandatory at least now. I am sorry for the retail workers who have to go through this. Stay safe.

    • fuonlyknew says:

We went months wearing masks while the customers weren’t required to do so. So many people coming through the store, it was starting to feel hopeless.

  6. sjhigbee says:

I’m glad your governor has made it mandatory – here in England dear old Boris has been dragging his heels over the whole business, but has finally roused himself to make it law for everyone in a shop to wear a mask from 24th of this month. Personally, I think it should have been mandatory from the time they opened everything up on 4th July – while our infection numbers are falling, they are doing so very, very slowly…

    • fuonlyknew says:

We are a huge tourist draw here and people come from all over. It was about time they started taking things more seriously as our new cases rose swiftly.

  7. Heather Duff says:

In Scotland they are a mandatory in shops and public transport, a lot of people wear them out on top of that however there are still plenty people ignoring that.

    • fuonlyknew says:

They made it mandatory to wear them when being out in public. I put mine on the moment I step out of my vehicle. Kind of a habit now.

  8. Sam@WLABB says:

Five books in two days. You’re a beast! I watched Glee from the beginning until the second to last year. I didn’t like it as much when the original group graduated, but oddly enough, I really liked the Glee Project, which some of the newer cast members came from. We have mandatory masking in NJ, but not everyone follows it or they don’t cover their nose (!!!!) and I don’t think it should fall to the shop workers to enforce that. There are been actual deaths and violent acts because of asking someone to mask up or leave. I say, you don’t like the mask, stick to situations where you can keep socially distant.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I devoured them and they were all good! I’m just now starting the third season of Glee. I see a lot of people wearing the masks below their noses, even fellow employees. I politely remind them to cover that nose. Some are quick to do so and some give me attitude.

  9. Glad to hear you’re keeping as safe as possible! I think masks will continue to be a part of our lives in the future, which can be a very good thing.
Have a wonderful week ahead, happy reading. Stay safe and healthy 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I try my best. It’s not just me I need to be concerned about. I wish others thought that way:)

  10. Rainy days are perfect for reading! Masks are mandatory in indoor spaces here in Montreal Quebec. I carry a mask with me at all times. No choice.

    • fuonlyknew says:

They are perfect for reading… and napping. LOL I’ve tried several different kinds of masks and none of them are that comfortable, but I carry one everywhere too:)

  11. Tammy says:

I love Glee! In fact, the show is actually based on the high school show choir program that my daughter was in. Yep, in the show choir world, our school is one of the top programs in the nation. And the whole mask thing is so annoying. It’s such an easy thing to do, wear a mask, I don’t know why people fight it so much.

    • fuonlyknew says:

That is so awesome it’s based on a program your daughter took part in! I think many people fight wearing a mask because they don’t think the virus is actually that serious. I know a nurse who works at two hospitals and she tells me the virus is much worse than we think and it’s attacking all age groups.

  12. Masks are essential and such a small thing that can make a big impact. I don’t understand the resistance to them! Even if later on we find out they aren’t as effective as we thought, wouldn’t it be better to be safe than sorry?
I used to watch Glee! Such a fun show but it also has some super emotional topics!
Hope you have a good week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

It is better to be safe than sorry. And I don’t rely on the news. Who knows what they aren’t telling us. Glee does have some emotional topics. The bullying really gets to me.

  13. Sophie @BewareOfTheReader says:

I am glad masks are finally mandatory Laura!!! And you have several cases at work? That must be scary! Now back to Glee ….I love that series but it must be cursed! Corey died of an overdose , Rachel is accused of harrassment, Samantha just died drowned and Puk commited suicide as he was accused of being a pedophile ……

    • fuonlyknew says:

We do have a lot of cases at work. I guess that was unavoidable with so many people coming through there each day and not wearing masks. I see whole families, many with infants! I read about all of those actors and the supposed curse. How sad.

  14. I’m so happy to hear you got some time off. It’s so hot for about a month here I don’t like it even if it does cool down with rain then it’s humid. I am especially glad to see a state mandating masks. I don’t understand why people have to be stupid about it. That’s why it is surging and we won’t get back to normal. We just stay home. Have a lovely week! Stay safe and be kind.

Anne – Books of My Heart Here is my Sunday Post

    • fuonlyknew says:

We are now fully into summer and it only gets hotter and more humid. Like breathing underwater sometimes. LOL I agree, we need to work together or this will be a long haul:)

  15. Wow, congrats on reading five books! I wish I could do that on my days off. My state just made masks mandatory. Now I’m not the only person wearing one! Hopefully it helps get the virus numbers down. I hope you have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I was lucky in that all of the books were so good! I hope the mandatory wearing of masks helps with our numbers too.

  16. yvonne473 says:

I never did watch Glee. Our state COVID numbers keep going up. My county has mandated masks but not our state. This is all pretty scary. I hope you have a good week. Stay safe.

    • fuonlyknew says:

Our city refused to make wearing masks mandatory and then the governor made it a statewide mandate. I sure hope it helps.

  17. Katherine says:

I didn’t watch Glee but my stepdaughter did and absolutely loved it. It sounds like a fun bit of escape right now. Sorry to hear about the rain on your days off but hopefully you were able to relax some. Have a great week.

  18. i may have the crushing depths. i agree about the masks. florida has done gone crazy…

    sherry @ fundinmental

    • fuonlyknew says:

I feel for you over there, Sherry! Your town is much larger than mine and gets many more visitors. That’s a lot of exposure!

  19. I love a good rainy day to get some reading accomplished! So glad to hear that you have a masking law. I think it is super important, especially for those working indoors. Stay well, Laura! 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I love those rainy days too! And I was thrilled when it was made mandatory for everyone to wear masks in public. I’m very exposed on my job.

  20. Wish you could send your rain this way – we need it. Our governor made masks mandatory but I still see people avoiding it and my position is that until they make penalties behind it, they might not mandate it. Stay safe.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I can see where it would be hard to enforce. I asked a customer why he wasn’t wearing a mask as it’s required, and he said he didn’t want to. Nothing I could do about it either.

  21. S. J. Pajonas (spajonas) says:

I hope your cases in Alabama decrease soon. <3
