Mechanica

My 56
I thought I out to say something, but in that room, at that moment, I was suddenly afraid to speak my mind. I wonder sometimes if I should have guessed, even then, what was to come.
Read on if you want to know more.
Synopsis
Nicolette’s awful stepsisters call her “Mechanica” to demean her, but the nickname fits: she learned to be an inventor at her mother’s knee. Her mom is gone now, though, and the Steps have turned her into a servant in her own home.
But on her sixteenth birthday, Nicolette discovers a secret workshop in the cellar and begins to dare to imagine a new life for herself. Could the mysterious books and tools hidden there—and the mechanical menagerie, led by a tiny metal horse named Jules—be the key to escaping her dreary existence? With a technological exposition and royal ball on the horizon, the timing might just be perfect for Nicolette to earn her freedom at last.
Gorgeous prose and themes of social justice and family shine in this richly imagined Cinderella retelling about an indomitable inventor who finds her prince . . . but realizes she doesn’t want a fairy tale happy ending after all.

I’m having a lot of fun with this one!
Ah, who doesn’t love a good Cinderella retelling? This one sounds like it has a better ending (IMO).
Here’s mine: “THE HOUSE OF MEMORIES”
I hope it does. I’m so ‘charmed’ by it so far! LOL
I’ve heard a lot about this book, thanks for sharing.
I don’t read many retellings so I was worried I wouldn’t like it. I’m having such a fun read so far.
The line was great, drew me in. The cover is fantastic too.
It’s a win win!
That drew me in, for sure!! Happy weekend!

The rest of the scene is good too. I might have to use this book for my Teaser Tuesday too. There are so many fun quotables in it.
Sounds like a great read, especially after all the wonderful things you were telling me.
