My Pet Yeti (Adventure Book for Kids Ages 9-12!) (Chance Bradley Adventure Books 3) by [Baldwin, Clarke]

Age Level: 9 and up | Grade Level: 3 and up

c8df8-add2bto2bgoodreads2bblack

My Review

I love stories about the Yeti. This sounds fun and I couldn’t resist the cute cover.

Chance can’t wait to show his friend, Nick, the snow fort he built. And Nick can’t wait to see it. After showing off the fort, Chance helps Nick build his own fort and shows him a nifty trick that will keep the forts from melting. As kids we used this trick and it worked great.

Next up, snowball fight! After epic battles, the boys grow cold and it’s time to go home. But Chance makes one quick trip to check on his fort, thinking of ways he might improve it. He’s shocked when he finds the fort demolished, and whoever destroyed it left huge footprints for him to follow.

Not knowing what left the tracks but having a sneaking suspicion, Chance sets off to find the culprit and the tracks lead him to a dark cave. He enters cautiously and discovers something astonishing.

This story brings back so many happy memories from  my childhood. Growing up in the north, we had long winters and lots of time on our hands. The neighborhood got together and built forts, has snowball, fights, went sledding and skating, and trekking in the woods. It’s so silent in the winter. And kind of scary. I’m sure we wondered what might be lurking in them woods.

Chance is a brave, but impulsive boy. I don’t know if I’d have ventured into that cave by myself. Making friends with a yeti sounded fun, but Freddy the yeti wasn’t meant to live with people. They wouldn’t understand him. Would be afraid of him.

It was sweet and sad, the way this ended. But the author showed that, while making a decision may be painful, its sometimes the best thing for everyone.

by Shawnda Blake

The Awkward Owl by [Blake, Shawnda]

Age Level: 3 to 7 / Grade Level: P – 1

My Review

A poor little owl who couldn’t fly right. No matter how he tried, he flew upside down, backwards, and any way but the way he should. When he flew into a tree, a little girl rescued him, nurtured him, loved him, and encouraged him to try flying again.

It was adorable when the little girl took the owl home and, with a little TLC, gave him confidence to try again. The pictures are cute too. Looks like children drew and colored them. You might want to have drawing paper and crayons handy, as your youngsters might get a hankering to try to draw this cuddly little owl.

With simple illustrations and such a cute little owl, this is sure to delight the young ones. It has a message too. Don’t give up on yourself. If you fail, try and try again.

Synopsis

My Review

Poor Billy. After spending time with him, no one wants to be his friend. He hasn’t a clue why. It can’t be because he’s poisonous. He’s never bite anyone. What could it be, then?

Such a charming story. It takes Billy a while to figure out what he’s doing wrong. A fun way to teach your youngsters to pay attention. I bet they get what he’s doing wrong right away.

There’s lots of colorful pictures of Billy and his friends. Fun for early readers or reading together.

Joe Joe The Sea Turtle

by A.J. Cosmo

18949199

c8df8-add2bto2bgoodreads2bblack

My Review

What an adorable story. I love turtles and these tiny hatchlings begging Grandpa Joe Joe to tell them a story are too cute.

Joe Joe spins some tall tales for the young turtles. There’s the time he saved his friends from killer seagulls. And the time he took on a Great White Shark. Joe Joe’s sister, Margaret, is fit to be tied by his exaggerations. But the little ones eat it up. Scared and excited at the same time.

Don’t we all feel like we want to be seen as more than we are? This story is a delightful way to show young readers that sometimes being you is enough.

The illustrations are so colorful and the turtles so adorable. I’m sure kids will be as captivated as I was.

Welcome to The Kid’s Korner!

I’m sure most of you know of my love for all things zombies. I was so tickled to find this series. Just look at em! And I have more to read in the series too!

Moore Zombies

The Search for Gargoy

by Wendy Knuth

c8df8-add2bto2bgoodreads2bblack

My Review

Baby Zom isn’t happy.

Baby Zom doesn’t want to go camping.

Baby Zom doesn’t want to play Hungry, Hungry Humans

Baby Zom wants Gargoy.

But Gargoy is lost.

Moore Zombies is a delightful picture book. Each page has a wonderful illustration depicting the scene as it’s told.

Baby Zom is adorable, even if she is a zombie. And she looks to her older siblings to help find Gargoy.

Her brother Kamper is like a typical boy.  He’s always on the go and his room is a mess.

Next oldest is her sister Gothina. She likes pretty clothes and accessorizes with her creepy crawlies.

And the oldest of the bunch, Broheimer, loves to read. He’s the nerd of the family.

Together they set out to find Gorgoy.

This would be a great story to read aloud with young children. But I think older kids and grown ups would have just as much fun following the dirt trail to the end of the mytsery.

Did you know zombies love tomatoes?

Synopsis

You’re not really afraid of zombies, are you? Take a peek into the lives of the Moore zombie family. When Gargoy goes missing, Baby Zom enlists her siblings to help in the search. Moore Zombies

Happy Kamper

by Wendy Knuth

c8df8-add2bto2bgoodreads2bblack

My Review

The Moore family of zombies is going camping. How cool is that?

Ever wonder what zombies do while camping? Well they do the same things we do. Kind of. It’s fun to see how the young ones work together and how the whole family enjoys the adventure.

Well, except when Baby Zom pops a ladybug in her mouth. Eww! Pop Moore suggests eating some Moore instead. I guess those are zombie S’mores.

Not so much teaching lessons as just having fun, it’s a cute story with lots of delightful illustrations, and it was fun to be with the Moore family again.

Synopsis

My Review

Such a cute story. Jolly the Jingrel tries really hard to get presents for his family, but every time he spots something good, his sibling grabs it first. By Christmas Eve, he’s still not found anything for his mother and all he has left is a silver crayon.

I am the youngest of six kids and know just how Jolly feels. Sibling rivalry is tough. LOL Wait until you see what Jolly does with that silver crayon. It’s precious.

I love Christmas and read holiday books year round. You and your little ones will be cheering Jolly on and smiling at all of the fun illustrations.

However, after collecting from the humans, Jolly’s siblings take all of the good stuff for themselves and Jolly is left with nothing but an old silver crayon. A Bear Of A Christmas

 by A.J. Cosmos

17167045

c8df8-add2bto2bgoodreads2bblack

My Review

Bo-Bo the bear cub asks his mother why Santa doesn’t visit bears at Christmas. His mom tells him a tale about a little boy and a very disobedient bear. Now Bo-Bo wants to tell Santa that one bad apple shouldn’t ruin Christmas for all of them.

I liked how momma bear guided Bo-Bo when he decided to do something about Santa. Changing the things you can is a big part of life.

There’s lots of bright, fun illustrations throughout and a life lesson cleverly told. A good one to read with your little ones or for them to read to you.

Warning: You might have to rush out and buy a stuffed Teddy Bear as soon as your youngsters finish this book.

The Adventures of Sherlock Bones turns snooping on its floppy ear when
one day, Dr. Jane Catson, a surgeon injured in the Cat Wars has an afternoon
nap interrupted by a most unusual occurrence.

On the front lawn of her home, rather loud footsteps disturb her peace as
Sherlock Bones, a Great Dane in a deerstalker claiming to be the greatest
detective in the world arrives.

After a quick critical examination of the intrusive dog whose enormous
body blocks the entire sun from view, Catson has her doubts. But that’s not
all. The monstrously-sized creature makes an even more astonishing claim. He
has come to live with her!

Before Catson can collect her thoughts into an intelligent rebuttal,
Sherlock Bones has made himself quite at home, inventing things like a jetpack
for her Castilian housekeeper-cook, a turtle named Mr. Javier and placing his
gigantic food and water dishes next to hers.

But there’s no time for protest. The great detective and Dr. Catson have
caught themselves their first case: A suspiciously dead human in a nearby
abandoned building. Can Sherlock Bones and Dr. Catson crack the case before the
killer strikes again? Or will their differences get in the way of solving Case
File No. 1? One thing’s for sure, that would be a doggone shame.

After being introduced to Sherlock Bones, the Greatest Detective in the
World, in Case File #1: Dogged to Death, Dr. Jane Catson – surgeon and veteran
of the Cat Wars – is back to share an all-new mystery adventure with readers.
Despite all of Jane’s resistance, Bones is now living with her and her
housekeeper/chef, the turtle with a jetpack, Mr. Javier. This time out, the
mismatched duo’s investigations lead them to a case involving murder, of
course, and – wait for it! – Utah. If there’s one thing readers can be certain
of it’s that in this world, the animals are always smarter than the humans.
Also, did we mention…Utah?

Enjoy the Excerpt:

“You can’t be serious!” I practically shouted, outraged.

If a murder really had been committed, I couldn’t believe he wasn’t going
to do anything about it. I also couldn’t believe that I was arguing with him
about this. I’d never wanted to get involved with him and all his craziness in
the first place.

“Oh, but I am, my dear Catson.”

My dear … Who did this dog think he was?

“And why is that, Bones?” I demanded, determined not to let my right eye
squint.

“Because I am tired of not getting credit.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Here’s how this kind of case always goes: a crime, usually murder,
occurs. The professional, public detectives—the so-called ‘experts’—are called
in. They fail to solve the case. Then I am called in. I solve the case, but
they take all the credit. End of story.”

As he spoke, his eyes shifted sadly from me to the floor to studying his
toenails.

I found myself, for the first time, starting to feel sorry for him. Then:

“Wait,” I said, this time letting my right eye go ahead and twitch.
“You’re not going to investigate, you’re going to let a murderer run
free—because your feelings are hurt? Because you feel you don’t get enough
credit?”

“Well,” he said, now looking slightly embarrassed, “yes, that is exactly
what I plan to do. Or rather, not do.”

“You can’t be serious! If you think you can help, it is your duty to do
so!”

“I suppose … ” His eyes met mine. “Do you want to come with?”

“Come with where?”

He eagerly un-crumpled the crumpled piece of paper.

“There,” he said, pointing to an address.

I thought of my lunch, which was still sitting on the table. I thought
longingly of the cushion in front of the bay window, my nap long overdue. And
then I thought of the adventure of potentially aiding to solve a murder. I must
confess: I was curious. It also occurred to me that perhaps since returning
home from the Cat Wars, my life had been a little dull.

“Fine,” I said, mildly exasperated with myself.

“Great,” he said, all smiles once more. “I’ll go get my hat.”

Another sweet story from the Monsters A To Z series.

Dax is a river monster who comes across Lily, a drowning little girl. Against his  parents warnings to avoid humans, he dives in and rescues her. They become unlikely friends and soon it’s Lily’s turn to rescue Dax.

My favorite part of the story is when Dax tries to hide in the river. All you can see is his big round eyes. So cute.

Another hit for the series. And, per usual, there are some fun, exciting illustrations.

A little creepier than some of the other books in the series. I liked how the boys handled the selfish monster. A lesson to all.

I especially like the cover for this book. When I was young, I hunted the library shelves looking for ones like this. And such a clever title too.

My Review

A fun story to read along with or out loud to your young ones. It has the cutest illustrations of the monsters too.

Ever wonder what your kid imagines is in their closet when they cry out to you. This is a delightful story that may dampen those fears in your child. Have them imaging quirky friends in there instead of something scary.

I had no problem connecting with this one. I remember one night, I was in bed with the lights out and heard a noise coming from my walk in closet. My older brother jumped out screaming and scared me into my teens. LOL I still sleep with my closet doors closed. This book would have come in handy after that incident.

Book Description for The Unusualasauruses:

Ages and ages ago, many different kinds of dinosaurs roamed our planet. Some were as large as whales, while others were the size of small dogs. Some were plant-eaters, while some ate other animals. Some had very long necks and tails, while others were tiny. Some had horns. Some had wings and could fly.

Despite all of these many variations, they were all part of the dinosaur family. And, as is often the case with family, they shared many common features.

No one has ever never whatsoever seen a live dinosaur or spoken to one of them. So, what if dinosaurs could really talk, or smile, cry, dream, dance, play and joke?

To answer all of these questions, all you have to do is become an Imaginesaurus, and meet the Unusualasauruses.

This book is aimed at children aged 4 to 120. It introduces the readers to different types of personalities, characters, and skills and thus helps us to spot them at a glance.

This book was beautifully illustrated by Lilach Ramati.

efrat-shoham

Efrat Shoham is an Israeli writer and independent publisher (The Pink Camel).

Shoham grew up in a small agricultural village in Israel. Her father was a farmer and her mother – a teacher and librarian. She lives with her family in Tel Aviv, on a small street lined with eucalyptus, mulberry and loquat trees, where 3 rabbits from the nearby kindergarten run wild.

She thinks and believes that curiosity, imagination, humor, green fields, fresh mango or avocado and pink camels are some of the keys to a good and happy life.
