Anthony Renfro has a bunch of his stories free right now!

With Halloween and Christmas fast approaching, there’s a little bit of everything for everyone’s holiday reading!

If you click this link (https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/atothewr) you can get all of these short stories free.

A Zombie Christmas and A Haunted House Tale will eventually go up to a dollar again, but for now you can download them for any E-Book reader that supports EPUB.

He also has these two on Leafless for free.

Haunted House Tale - High Resolution

https://leafless.co/?browse&*=info&id=245

Zombie 2 - High Resolution

https://leafless.co/?browse&*=info&id=203

The cool thing about Leafless is that it allows the audience to choose the price. The two stories above will remain free until the demand pushes them up to a certain price. They are also available in EPUB, MOBI, and PDF files on that site.

Finally, this short story is available for free on Noise Trade. You can also get it in EPUB, MOBI, or PDF there as well.

Some chit chat.

Good morning ya’ll!

On the homefront nothing much is new.

I did read a lot of new books and won some wonderful prizes.

And I finally started organizing my book shelves. Boy, were they a mess. Books crammed in willy nilly. LOL For now, I’ve got the books organized by read and not read, and have all series arranged in order. Now I’m not sure how to do the rest.

Should I go by alphabetically? And if so, by author or title?

Should I go by genre? And then maybe by author?

How about by new authors? Favorites?

There are so many ways to go!

How do you organize yours?

I’ll be hopping over to check out your Sunday posts so be sure to leave me your link!

Here are my new books for review.

I have a couple of new review books but can’t share the covers yet. I’ll tell you they are cozy mysteries. Big surprise there. LOL I’ve been reading so many.

Some chit chat.

Good morning ya’ll!

It’s another Sunday and it’s raining. I always find it funny how when summer first gets here, I want beautiful clear skies so I can get outside and get a tan, enjoy the swimming, and putter in my flower gardens.

As the summer  gets hotter, the weeds get neglected, the tan is good enough, and the cold AC beckons me back inside. LOL

Today I awoke to overcast skies and rain. And I was glad. I can’t think of anything better right now than to curl up in bed with a cup of hot English Breakfast Tea and my Kindle.

I’m reading Ella, The Slayer right now and can’t wait to finish the last chapter! Then I’ll be grabbing something from the stack next to my bed. Perhaps a thriller, some horror, another cozy, or an urban fantasy? So many choices! Isn’t life grand!!

I’ll be hopping over to check out your Sunday posts so be sure to leave me your link!

So, what did you get to read this week?

Got any recommendations?

I’d love to know and thanks so much for visiting fuonlyknew.

Anthony Renfro is at it again.

He has three of his short horror stories free on Amazon today!

Come on in and check out Need To Feed and Killer Treads, plus his newest release, SHe.

If you ever wanted to read about Vampires who stalk you in the daylight, a monster who attacks only women, or a treadmill that thirsts for blood then today is your day. – Anthony Renfro

Need To Feed

c8df8-add2bto2bgoodreads2bblack

My Review

Three great things in one story.

It’s a supernatural western setting.

There are vampires that hunt by day.

And werewolves that shift at sunrise.

All of these combined to make one rollicking bloody read.

Saltwater Junction, Northern California.

The night of the full moon.

Tomorrow they come. Like they do once every year.

The sheriff gathers the town folk and they get the town ready for the morning.

The werewolves will attack at dawn.

The vampires soon after.

This year will be different.

This year they will win.

No more men lost to the werewolves.

No more women and children bled out by the vampires.

If…. If the people do what the sheriff says. If they stand and fight. If…

I loved this idea. Instead of the moon and darkness being these monsters strengths, it’s sunrise and daylight.

You’d think it would be easier for the people to fight them, easier to survive.

Not so. The werewolves are numerous, mindless, feeding machines. The vampires are cunning, swift, and organized.

Right from the opening scene when the sheriff had a shootout with the Lizard brothers, I knew I was in for something different.

I’d love to see this as a movie. I almost could as the author did an excellent job describing the scenes and characters. My wish is he’d write more about this town and it’s characters. It ended too soon for me.

Example from Need to Feed:

Dawn’s light was on the horizon.

A foul crispness filled the morning air, as the Vampires stood in a dusty patch of Earth, and stared off in the direction of Saltwater Junction.

These creatures stood about seven feet tall on thick muscular tree trunk sized legs. They wore dark pants over these legs and no shoes on their big ugly grey skinned feet. Claws hung off the ends of their toes like talons. Nothing covered their ripped and muscular grey skinned upper body. Their heads were bald, their fangs long and white, and their eyes were red and glowing. They had two pointy bat-like ears standing out on either side of their head, and this gave them superior immortal hearing.

On leashes at their sides, like dogs, were mutated human beings. They were shackled around the neck with big red collars that had metal loops on the end of them. Attached to these loops were leather lines that led up to the Vampire’s right or left hand. These mutated humans were on all fours with wide hypnotized eyes, foaming mouths, and bruised flesh. They were naked, and the punishment they had endured to become what they now were was clearly evident. Whipping scars covered them from head to toe.

SHe

c8df8-add2bto2bgoodreads2bblack

My Review

It stalks the night in Tampa Bay.

Takes what it needs from women.

The taking kills them.

Just what is this monster?

I can’t tell you that.

I can say that it’s so evil, so deadly, and so bizarre.

Anthony took it to a new level with his newest monster.

When you find out what it takes, what it can do, what it is, you won’t believe it.

And neither will Detective Roberts.

A dash of horror that will shock you. It left me grinning. I loved how twisted and original it was.

Killer Treads

c8df8-add2bto2bgoodreads2bblack

My Review

Hey, look at that. A tread mill, like new, for only twenty bucks. What a steal.

He’s been meaning to get in shape, get rid of that spare tire around his middle.

He should have slowed down, caught the warning signs that something was seriously wrong with the deal. Not been so impulsive.

Alas, it’s too late now, and the deal is going to cost him much more than cold hard cash.

This story teaches you to never buy something when the deal seems too good to be true.

Kind of fun, kind of gory, and I liked it.

Description

(Revised and Updated: 2015)

A short story about a man who sees a flashy ad online advertising a twenty dollar treadmill. He buys the machine, too cheap to be scared, and realizes much to his dismay that this machine has a taste for blood. Big Bob better run like his life depends on it, because in many ways it does.

Example from Killer Treads:

A face appeared on the video monitor. It wasn’t demonic or evil-looking, just a plain computer generated male face was all that it was. It had two eyes, two ears, a nose, mouth, and no hair. It had no body attached to it, just a free-floating head in the middle of the video screen.

The floating head looked at Bob. “Get on, take a spin. I’ll make you thin.”

Bob looked down at the face, as his ratty tee-shirt and sweat pants evaporated. In a flash, they were replaced with a shiny new set of running clothes. Wick away shirt, keeps you cool and dry. Running shorts that fit much like swimming trunks, net in the middle to hold your junk in place. Moisture controlling socks and a perfectly fitting pair of new running shoes. To top it off, a head band decided to rest itself around the top of Bob’s head. He was now suited up and ready to run.

The black belt on the treadmill started to move, rolling gently from top to bottom, inviting him to step up and get started.

“That’s it Bob, come along for the ride, take your stride,” the floating head replied, smiling up at him.

Caution, hello, caution! I don’t know about you guys reading this, but if a machine appeared in your garage, and started talking to you in rhyme, don’t you think you might run for the door or at least not climb on when it asked you to?

Some chit chat.

I have been so frustrated this week. I was without my car for three days and finally got it back. Needed a new radiator. Only one day later, I watched it being towed out of my driveway. Back to the shop for a leak. I think it’s a small hose. Crossing fingers!

Needless to say, I was boiling over as was my car!

boiling teakettle photo: boiling pot boiling_pot.gif

It made me think what it would be like to not have a car. How would I get to work? To the vet? To buy groceries? So many things that you need a car for. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. Well, maybe I would. It’s not very fun.

My car is well over ten years old. I should be looking for a new one. But I’ve already put a lot of money in it. Much of the parts are new. The engine has been rebuilt. Which brings up the question, when do you stop pouring money into your car and go get another one.

There’s a hitch to that, though. I don’t have the money to buy another car. So it looks like for now I’ll be spending more money. I just want my baby back!

Something else new this week. The police have been out in force. They have cops dressed in plain clothes stand on the side of the road with cardboard signs. People think they are homeless men, begging for money. They don’t even read the signs that state they are cops and you’ll be ticketed for not wearing a seatbelt or for texting while driving. One lady was pulled over after she drove by a cop without her seatbelt on, putting on her mascara, and texting while driving with her knee.

I usually know when someone in front of me on the road is texting. They swerve all over the place, speed up and slow down, and drive me crazy. I stay way back from them so I won’t get caught up in the wreck if it happens. I tried one time to text and almost hit a mailbox. I was on an empty back road and just seeing what would happen. Are people nuts?!!!!

I’ll be hopping over to check out your Sunday posts so be sure to leave me your link!

I’m still funnin and sunnin. Not much new in my life. Just enjoying the summer and doing a bit less on my blog.

Not that I’m not blogging, as you’ll see. Just trying to keep my commitment to review the books that I host tours for. That was something I decided to do this year. I still host book promos, but I felt I needed to limit the tour posts mostly to books I’ll read and review.

It’s killin me! LOL I’ve been reading like crazy and have found so many wonderful new authors and great reads.

Some chit chat.

I love Sunday mornings.

It’s the one morning I don’t get up at the crack of dawn. Instead, I lie in bed with a good book for an hour or so. Then, I get up, put on the kettle, and while waiting for it to whistle at me, I gather my things and take them to my little outside office. Here’s a picture I shared previously.

outdoor office 004

Saturday, I did a lot of yard work. Had to remove branches that grew so quickly you couldn’t tell I’d cut them back once before.

I also washed down my deck and emptied any containers that had filled with water from the rain we got earlier. No mosquito’s laying eggs there!

So this morning, I plan on reading and relaxing, taking periodic dips in the pool to cool down some. That brings up another topic.

As summer is in full swing and the temps average in the mid to high 90s, the water warms up quick and stays that way. I’ve had water temps of almost 94 this week. The recent rainfall brought it down to just under 91 but as today promises to be blistering hot, that will rise again.

My favorite time to swim is around 6:00 in the afternoon. An afternoon breeze from the Gulf blows through, chilling exposed skin, causing me to duck down into the warm water. I feel like a tea bag in the warmth. My legs are so heavy when I use the ladder to get out. LOL

It feels like time for one of those dips now as the day is warming up, so I’m off to cool down a bit. Have a lovely Sunday!

I’ll be hopping over to check out your Sunday posts so be sure to leave me your link!

Some chit chat.

I’ve been MIA for the last couple of weeks. Sorry I missed your Sunday Posts.

My brother came down from Michigan and a bunch of us went over to Pensacola to stay at my sister and brother-in law’s place.

Went to Windcreek Casino and had a great dinner brunch and did some gambling. My brother, who doesn’t even like gambling, was the last to quit, and he won! LOL

Went out to eat, a lot.

Had Margarita’s and Bloody Mary’s and ice cold beers.

Swam a lot! It’s so hot and humid. Heat index has us at well over a hundred.

Went to watch the Blue Wahoos play some baseball. They won. Enjoyed the dogs and beer, but it was so sticky hot.

More swimming!

More eating.

More drinking.

Good times!

Now I’m back and have a lot to share with you about books!

I’ll be hopping over to check out your Sunday posts so be sure to leave me your link!

My Review

This is written as a story in a story.

The author opens with an old man sitting in his rocking chair sharing a story with his two grandsons. A story about two young boys and an evil beach.

Seth and Junior stumble upon a cave, and being boys, they dare each other to enter. Inside, it is dark and creepy, but as they continue further into the cave they see light and step through to an isolated strip of pristine beach.

beach cave photo: Cave cave.jpg

At first, they are thrilled to have their own secret beach but when they turn around, something written on the rocks invites and warns them. It’s almost like a dare, so of course the boys attempt to do what it says, building something in the sand.

What seemed like a lark became their worst nightmare and and soon they had to return to the cave and the beach, pursued by something out of their nightmares.

I’m very much into character driven stories and am amazed at how well the author developed his in so few words. The old man and grandsons didn’t even have names, yet I could see them sitting on that porch, the boys rapt as their grandfather spun his tale.

And Seth and Junior, the two boys in the tale, reacted just like you’d expect them too. They believe they are invincible and grow up fast when they discover they aren’t.

A well written short story that captured me from beginning, to middle, to end.

The author ‘pulled my leg’ with his twist at the end, tying the two tales together.

My Review

Vin’s always wanted to drive the mint condition Chevy Chevelle, so when his friend Mike suggests they take his uncles car out for a joyride he doesn’t hesitate.

Vin shows up at Mike’s uncles house with the beers and Mike produces the house keys. They enter the house and grab the car keys, not noticing a slip of paper that blows off the desk, revealing a strange book with a glowing pentagram on the cover.

Once in the garage they feast their eyes on the mean looking car. Painted black and tricked out with a red racing stripe, the car looks almost evil.

They hop in and quietly ease the car out of the garage and down the road. Nobody notices them. Too bad for Vin and Mike.

I had an idea the car was supernatural when the book with the pentagram was revealed. I couldn’t wait to see what it would do.

It took control and those boys had a joyride like no other.

I couldn’t help but think of Stephen King’s movie, Christine. That was one evil car and I thought this tale would follow along that story line. The plot was different but the chills it gave me were the same.

Buckle up because there is a bonus short story, Sandy and the Stranger, included with Joyride.

As Sandy and his Chevy Nova once again prove he can’t be beat, a stranger challenges him to one more race.

I wonder if you’ll recognize the stranger?

It’s a haunted drag race on an abandoned road.

When the smoke from their burning rubber dissipates, the victor appears.

Or so it seems.

Both of these are quite short. Didn’t take me long to read them.

Muscle cars, evil, and ghosts make both tales scary good.
