Since childhood, his father had ingrained in him the importance of not blaming others for your mistakes, and if there was any life principle he was determined to pass on to his children and grandchildren it was that: Take responsibility for your mistakes and keep your mouth shut.

I’m liking the writing so far and I imagine I’ll be going back to start this series from the beginning. As this is book seventeen, at least I won’t have to wait:)

Synopsis

In the next installment of the Loon Lake Mystery series, Lewellyn Ferris and Doc Osborne must solve a murder that shatters the picturesque Wisconsin lake town community at the height of summer.

On a lovely Sunday afternoon in late June, the annual Loon Lake Youth Fishing Tournament is coming to a close. People are happy, kids are full of ice cream, and teenagers are setting off firecrackers so loud that no one hears the gunshot.

But when the crowd thins out, an attractive young wife makes a grisly discovery: A single bullet to the head has killed her much older husband—the richest man in Wisconsin.

Meanwhile, as the murder investigation gets underway, Police Chief Lewellyn Ferris’s good friend and deputy coroner, “Doc” Osborne, is alarmed to hear that his oldest grandchild, fifteen-year-old Beth, has been caught in a drug sting.

And Loon Lake’s idyllic summer is further shattered when numerous elderly patients in the local nursing home discover they have been robbed.

“I learned sarcasm from the internet, hours of YouTube videos and some show called How I Met Your Mother”

Those hours of alone time in my apartment in Tokyo in my pajamas with ramen noodles and a pint of ice cream were spent watching tons of internet TV. I didn’t have much of a life in Tokyo.

~~~~~
Synopsis
She’s got her head in the clouds and a taste for solving crime…
Mei Yamagawa is out of luck and out of money. After five years in Tokyo, she has little to show for it besides a laundry list of unrealized dreams. Left without a choice, she returns to her rural Japanese hometown, ready to be branded a failure by her relatives and rivals. At the least, she looks forward to seeing her best friend, until Akiko is accused of murdering her own father.
As Mei helps her farmer mother with the crops, she scouts for clues to clear her friend’s name. But during her investigation, she can’t help but notice the celebrity chef looking in her direction. The amateur detective can balance a new love interest and a murder case… can’t she?
To clear her friend of the crime and find the real killer, Mei’s going to need every last ounce of her imagination… and just a pinch of luck.
The Daydreamer Detective is the savory starter to the Miso Cozy series of cozy mystery novels. If you like twisty plots, delectable food descriptions, and rural Japanese towns, then you’ll love S. J. Pajonas’ culinary tale.
Careful, Jessie,” he warned softly. “If we succeed in finding Lola’s loving owner, you’ll have to say goodbye.”
She melted more into the dog. “But she’d be happier.”
“I don’t know if she could be any happier,” he said, giving the dog a pat. “Look at that smile.”
I love books with dogs in them. And a Dogfather? How could I resist!
This scene mentions a dog smiling. I know my dog can smile. Does yours?
~~~~~

Synopsis

Garrett Kilcannon, a former dot com super-success who now devotes his life to rescuing dogs and finding them homes, prefers to keep his secrets buried as deep as a dog hides his bone. So when he learns his father has invited a journalist to Waterford Farm to write and produce an in-depth profile on him, he doesn’t care that she’s a childhood friend or drop dead gorgeous. He has zero tolerance for the media…until he sees a different side when she gets through the walls of a rescue dog who’s refused to eat during her short stay at Waterford. Unwillingly charmed and undeniably attracted, Garrett agrees to the interview that could break down a few of his emotional walls, too.

Garrett might not want to share the story of his colorful former life, but Jessie Curtis has the skills to peel back the layers of this sexy, complicated, caring man. In the process, she not only discovers his secrets, she finds herself falling for a man who touches her heart in a way she never thought possible. Her entire career is riding on this one explosive interview, but can she bear to repay Garrett’s trust by selling his secrets? Or can a woman who gave up on happiness a long time ago learn to believe that all it takes to rescue a lost heart is the love of a good man?

They stared at the door, waiting for another sound.

Someone shrieked. It was an earsplitting and terrified sound, cut off abruptly.

Silence.

An awkward thudding up the stairs. A scraping sound, closer now. A door opening, then the soft click of it shutting.

A breath of silence.

And then another sound – a helpless wail.

This scene started kind of sad and then turned into this terrifying occurrence! I’m so hooked.

~~~~~
Synopsis
Evil hides behind the sweetest faces.
Nelly Huggett swears something took her mother, brother, and father. She doesn’t know what, or when, or how. And she needs Hyla and Lizeth Frontenac to bring them all back.
Trouble is, her story doesn’t make sense. Though one thing is certain: something evil has infected the Huggett house. And when Nelly reveals her sinister side, the sisters wonder if the monster they seek is masquerading as a little girl.
But Hyla won’t accept that. She can’t lose another child to darkness. She knows Nelly’s just different, wild, misunderstood.
But what if she’s wrong?
Wherever this evil comes from, it’s dragging Hyla into the abyss faster than she can chase the clues.
And she may lose herself before she can save anyone else.
Wicked Innocents is the first, free installment in a series of three books that combine a good old-fashioned amateur sleuth (two, in fact), with spine-tilling suspense, just enough horror to keep you on the edge of your seat, and the heart-pumping adrenaline of a fast-paced thriller.
Sleuths and sisters Hyla and Lizeth Frontenac run their own unique private investigator business from a small town in the Adirondacks. But they’re more often in their 1972 Ford Econoline van, driving across rural America to investigate their next case.
They’re not technically professionals, not really. The crimes they investigate are more dark and disturbing than the average. More…bizarre. Criminals are cloaked as supernatural creatures, occult forces threaten them at every turn, and the confused victims demand justice.
Lucky for the victims, when these women sleuths are on the case, no monster is safe.
For Kindle readers who enjoy a strong female lead protagonist, this thrilling series of paranormal private investigator mysteries will have you hooked from the first word. From the twisted imagination of mystery, suspense and thriller writer S.H. Livernois.
I’d go up to my room and lay in bed. Pretend I’d gone to bed instead of looked out the window. Imagined a night without the storm. Sometimes, I’d even fall asleep and wake up. But nothing had changed.
From what I gathered at this scene, there was a strange storm and Jack’s mother and sister went missing. For some reason he and his dad don’t sleep in the house now. They sleep in a tent outside. I’m getting so curious!
~~~~~

I came across this on Bookbub and was immediately intrigued by the synopsis. It raised questions and I wanted answers. Plus, it has such a wicked cover!

What do you think? Does the synopsis hook you too? What do you think of the cover?

~~~~~
Synopsis
Outré is the first book in a trilogy titled Deviation. The trilogy offers different perspectives on what happened in Pinkerton, Iowa, in the year 1989. The goal of Outré is to take one event (a tornado), add another set of events (women missing, people dead, animal mutilations, the possibility of aliens and alien abduction, others different than the norm) and come to a perspective of what could have happened.
This is Jack Cahill’s account. Fifteen-year-old Jack Cahill, along with his friends Pitts and Diddleman, are lead to believe it was not a tornado that destroyed a large area of Pinkerton but an alien abduction. Their “need to know” sets them on a quest of speculation, accusation, and investigation.
The concept for the trilogy comes from the question: Can we ever be sure that our perception of things is right?
I’m going to make a confession here. I grabbed this the second I came across the pretty cover. LOL But, I’m also a cozy mystery addict and I’ve been wanting to try Shea’s books. This has a writer as the main character and is located in Florida, a hop, skip and jump from where I live. It looks like home to me!
Have you done that? Bought a book just because of the cover? Come on. Don’t be shy. You can tell me!
The above cover is the one I own from Amazon. Here is the one from Goodreads. Either of these would have been a cover buy for me!
Synopsis
Sassy, snarky Viola Roberts quit her boring accountant job to pursue her dream of writing novels, even if it meant eating ramen noodles every day. Now that her career has taken off, she’s headed to a writers’ conference at an exotic Florida resort complete with white sand beaches and swaying palm trees where she plans to lounge in the shade drinking frosty beverages with little umbrellas. And, of course, no sojourn to tropical climes would be complete without her boozy, wise-cracking best friend, Cheryl. When Viola discovers the diva of the author world dead (as a doornail) of unnatural causes, the police immediately consider Viola their prime suspect. But when the head detective turns a gimlet eye on Viola’s best friend, the author has had enough! Along with help from hunky fellow writer, Lucas Salvatore, Viola is determined to ascertain who killed the corpse in the cabana before she, or Cheryl, wind up in jail. Or worse.
