Reckoning (The Amish Bloodsuckers Trilogy, #3)

I love the cover art for this series. It’s fresh, humorous and “sticks” with the story.

Reckoning picks up right where Shunned, Book Two, left us.

Question : How do I review the third book in this series?

Answer : By telling you as little as possible.

That doesn’t mean I won’t tell you something.

We know Jael is the Chosen One, chosen to slay vampires. She wasn’t always Amish, but circumstances landed her at her grandparents home in an Amish community in Minnesota.

She knew she’d be going there sooner or later. Her target, The Bishop, was there and it was her destiny to destroy him.

Her best friend Bree, along with Shad, are in Minnesota for the summer and don’t plan on letting Jael face this all alone.

But she’s not alone. She has a sweet, loyal, and surprisingly determined new boyfriend, Gabe. He learns quick. He has to.

With Father Thomas, her Uncle Seth, and her three loyal companions, Jael sets out to do what must be done.

They are going to need a lot of luck if they are to survive. The vampires are more brazen than ever and even more determined to kill them.

Jael’s role as The Chosen One has forced her to do things most young women wouldn’t dream of. She’s grown a thick skin to fend off the pain of some tough decisions.

“Cure her?” Jael blew out a laugh. “The cure for bloodsuckers is death.”

“We must save her! She has a baby for heaven’s sake!”

Jael shook her head, releasing an exasperated sigh. “Here we go again. Another bleeding heart wanting to save something. The problem is, there’s just as many vampires running loose in Minnesota as there are wolves – but vamps are far more deadly and not even close to extinct…yet.”

This doesn’t mean she doesn’t care. She does. It just means she has to protect her heart lest it be crushed from the weight of her deeds.

Jael has a date with destiny.

A reckoning is looming.

There is only one outcome.

The Bishop dies or Jael does.

This is a  great wrap up to this series! I’m sad it’s over. Who knows, Jael is young, maybe we’ll hear from her again! (Wink)

Five drops of blood for Reckoning!

Chosen (Amish Bloodsucker trilogy, #1)

Blurb from Goodreads

With tongue firmly in cheek and genuine Amish-made stakes at hand, Jael the vampire slayer is ready to kick some serious bloodsucker butt. Seriously.
Move over Buffy – there’s a new slayer in town! Raised in the desert of Nevada, and destined for the Minnesota Loon Lake Amish Community, Jael Shetler is the Chosen One.
Trained by her uncle and father in twenty-one different forms of hand-to-hand combat – she also throws a knife with the speed of a bullet, and is accurate to within two centimeters of a cold, dead heart with her crossbow – she is a bloodsucker’s worst nightmare.
Her parents, forced to leave their plain and simple upbringing to escape the clutches of the new Bishop – an ancient and powerful vampire with plans to use the Amish Community as his own personal Jamba Juice – raise and train their daughter to continue the fight begun thousands of years earlier by another Jael, and to fulfill the prophecy in the Book of the Shunned.
Soon Jael is turning sweet sixteen and then … all hell will break loose.

Shunned (Amish Bloodsuckers, #2)

Blurb from Goodreads

In Shunned, Jael leaves Nevada and her close friends, Brianna and Shadow, behind. She travels to the Loon Lake Amish community in Minnesota where she moves in with grandparents she’s never met and learns to live the plain and simple life… at least as plain and simple as she can handle. She may learn to milk a goat, but she is definitely NOT giving up her cell phone or crossbow!
While finishing out the school year at Loon Lake Public High School, she meets the guy of her dreams…someone to keep her company when she goes out staking vampires at night.
Her true purpose is to destroy the Bishop, the oldest and most powerful vampire of all. But first she must find out just what his diabolical plans are for the teenagers of the community, and put a stop to him and his undead followers before it’s too late.

  1. I think this one could win the strangest sounding series EVER award! I would never pick it up without a review but I have to admit that you got me a bit curious! And it sounds like you really like them so I’ll have to consider giving them a read one of these days. 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I admit I hesitated for about a second! I had recently read latter-day of the dead by Kevin Krohn. It was zombies instead of vampires. Barbara’s protagonist, Jael, is wonderful and she showed me a really entertaining and sometimes humorous look at the Amish way of life. I would love to read more about Jael.

  2. Hello all. I do believe that I have a destiny. My destiny is to help as many people as I can and to make as many friends (true friends) as possible. I cannot wait to read this series!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  3. Thanks for reviewing Reckoning and hosting this giveaway on your blog, Laura! I am excited to share the third and last chapter in the Amish Bloodsuckers Trilogy. I had a heck of a lot of fun writing Jael’s story and adventures and I know I’ll miss her and the gang:)
Good luck to all who enter the giveaway!

  4. Lizzy says:

    The Shunned cover is hilarious!

As to answer your question: I believe that it is important to have a purpose in life. Whether you create this purpose or God did, doesn’t matter.

  5. I do believe that I have a path in the way life is meant to play out but only if I make the right choices to get there. I think that some choices veer us off our path for good and some times we take a more scenic route. If al lthat makes sense! lol

  6. Lori Hayes says:

Let me 1st say these books read very cool from what I have read so far, not much, enough to interest me though. The covers are great.! As for do I think I or everyone has a purpose in life….I sure do. I believe once you fulfil your purpose is when you move on.
    Thanks for a great giveaway. I only enter the good/ great ones : }

    • Lori Hayes says:

Let ne clearify this..yes we all have a destiny…do we always chose the right way to go, that path we should take….NO..that’s free will. It takes us off our destiny so if we don’t compete that I believe we don’t fulfill it. Eventually we do. It may take many times, chances but we do then our life ends. Our Destiny is fulfilled we move on.

  7. […] Win The Amish Bloodsucker Trilogy! […]

  8. I don’t know what to believe anymore. From time to time I had encounter “evidences” to prove both: that there is predestination AND that we make our own destiny. But I like to think I have some control regarding my own existence

  9. I’m intrigued by this series. This is the first I’ve heard of it and am curious.

A purpose or destiny? Nah, I can’t really get behind the whole predestined thing. There are just too many variables involved in getting everyone’s to mesh.

  10. Pragya says:

Absolutely! I think destiny brought me so far and I was made to help people with mental illness (psychologist).

  11. Ash Krafton says:

I do believe in destiny but I also believe it’s up to us to ensure it. Bad decisions can totally derail us.
My favorite song is “Senzafine” by Lacuna Coil and it’s a song about our destinies…it’s also in Italian. 🙂

My favorite lines are “Il mio destino scelgo/ Se riesco a resistere”

    Kind of says it all.

    Cheers, Ash

  12. Dangercat@AOL.com

I do believe we all have a destiny. Some people just squander their chances.

  13. Dii says:

Definitely a creative concept here! Love it!

  14. mydemonkittie@gmail.com. I believe that we have a destiny, but we have to chose to follow it or we can avoid it. Avoiding it is the harder road, but I think it is possible. Not all destinies are positive.

  15. Jeanette says:

Everyone has a purpose, including me. My purpose may not be to save the world or end hunger or anything as meaningful. Perhaps, it’s just to love another with everything I have.
    Jeanettelsheppard@gmail.com

  16. Lachi Denali says:

Yes, I certainly believe I have a destiny. My angel keeps preaching it to me. *chuckles*

  17. Lily says:

Without a purpose, there is no meaning to life. Without goals, there is no direction and we would all wonder about lost. So whether man made, or God made, a purpose is as essential as breathing in order to thrive in the short life that we all have.

Wow… I came up with all that without even getting a coffee in me yet this morning. 🙂

Would love a chance to win! Thanks for the giveaway!!

You’ve made me wonder what you’d come up with after a few cups of java:) lol
Sometimes I feel lost, but mostly I’m so busy I have little time to ponder.

  18. dharkcharlotte says:

Do you believe you have a destiny, a purpose?

Yes. It’s not anything as grand as being a ‘slayer’ but I do believe I have one and am trying my best to fulfill it.

    dharkcharlotte (at) gmail (dot) com

  19. Marianne Houghtaling says:

I believe I have many purposes in this world, and I believe they are based on my choices to achieve those goals. Some of the outcomes will never be known to me and others will bring a deep satisfaction. This was really an intense question to answer. Thanks for the giveaway!

  20. Beckey says:

This may seem like a strange series but surely doesn’t lack in creativity on the authors part… Something I need to read for the pure curiousity factor alone! (yeah I know what they say about curiousity killing the cat but satisfaction (and other lives) brought him back…)
As for you question, Do you believe you have a destiny, a purpose?:

I believe you create your own destiny or purpose in life by the desions you make for yourself. But anything is possible…

    BeckeyWhiteATgmailDOTcom

  21. Lacey Galicia says:

Yes, I do believe I have a destiny and purpose! I’m Christian so I believe that God has an awesome plan for me. I have always felt drawn to law enforcement so that is the direction I am taking. Every time I feel drawn to do something I do it, because if I don’t I know I will regret it 🙂

  22. Kellie Harrington says:

Kelleeh.73@gmail.com I really like the sounds of these books I really hope I win. My purpose in life is to read and have the people around me know peace and love.

  23. Sherry says:

Had to laugh when I read the cover. LOL I would like to think my purpose in life is to read, write, phototgraph and swim in my pool. How wonderful a life is that. ^_^ I can’t believe I haven’t been over here. Sorry, but I want to win anyway. lol

  24. Ali Ables says:

I do believe that everyone has a destiny/purpose. I just don’t know what mine is yet. Maybe it was to bring my four wonderful children in to this world. Thank you so much for the chance to win! My email is alisa.ables@gmail.com.

  25. margaret says:

Yes. I believe everyone has a destiny. What my destiny is… i don’t know. I think that some people may never figure out their destiny, but they have one.
    millen.margareta@gmail.com

  26. morgandrake@msn.com Yes, I believe that I have a purpose…it is just too bad that it seems to be annoying people.

  27. Sophie says:

Laura, what an awesome series! I so wanna read this! And well, I know I have a purpose in life, everybody has one. I think we will follow our paths and be angels to others, we constantly achieve our purpose when he help others!

  28. Kris says:

If I didn’t have a purpose I would have lost faith a long time ago.

    Ravenaier@gmail.com

  29. I believe we all have a destiny. The Bible does say that we all have a purpose in this life. 🙂

Series sounds awesome! Amish Vamps… wow. lol

    emerald_barnes(at)yahoo(dot)com

  30. Tasha Turner says:

I’m not sure. My problem is that I have a hard time reconciling free will & destiny. I believe we have free will or we’d be cookie cutter robots. Given that is it possible to also have a destiny? I just don’t know.

  31. anca v says:

I do believe we have a path set out for us, but we also have a part to play in which direction we take, either way what ever path we take, everything that happens, is for a reason.
    mail : ank_adaus@yahoo.com

  32. I believe that God gave everyone a purpose when he created us. And even if we don’t know what it is, or that we’ve achieved it’s results, we have it. I also think that we tend to grow into our destinies, and that that they benefit us more than they benefit others.

  33. Missy Bair says:

    Absolutely!

  34. I definitely believe we have a purpose 🙂 I just heard about the Amish Bloodsuckers Trilogy, and I think it sounds great! My email is sadie44442002[at]yahoo[dot]com

  35. Red says:

Yes, I believe I have a purpose. I don’t know how I “got” this purpose, but I hope I fulfil it and by doing my best at it, bring more good into the world

  36. mark a. says:

most definitely i do believe that!
    mark
    bashashhazbaz(at)yahoo(dot)com

  37. Pennelope says:

I believe in destinies and purposes. There are proof from all over stating that we all are meant for something. Take Anna Frank for an example her life purpose was to die and teach of the holocaust. I f she had not started to write in the diary or if she had not been caught we would not have a sense of what it was like to be there when the holocaust happened. Anna Frank changed the world with her diary and her death that was her purpose. Another example is Martin Luther King his purpose was to fight slavery with peace. I f he had not had that purpose then there would not have been a lot of thing like the children’s match and there is a chance that slavery might still be in effect in the United States . We all have a purpose even if it is small it is still something. So yes I do believe in purposes and though I do not know what mine is yet I cannot wait to read The Amish Bloodsuckers Trilogy.

  38. Lachi Denali says:

I won!! *happy dancing* Can’t wait to delve into these! Thank you!!
