Dark Migration by Sandra R Campbell
Publication date: August 2013
Genres: Dark Fantasy, Horror, New Adult
Synopsis:
.
SeannaĀ Raines is on a journey of self-discovery. Only her search does not include college applications or finding a cool summer job. AfterĀ  killing Samuel Bolvayne, the ā€˜manā€™ she fears and loves, Seanna is notĀ  looking for who she is, but rather what she will become.

Samuel spent countless lifetimes trying to forge a companion likeĀ  himself, but his previous attempts were considered failures. UntilĀ  Seanna. She is his first true successā€¦ and his ultimate undoing. Now,Ā  without Samuel to guide her, SeannaĀ is lost. To survive, she needs toĀ  find out what her transformation means: super strength, the ability toĀ  smell human emotions, and an ever-increasing need to devour human souls. Seanna travels to Samuelā€™s earthly homeland, along the coast of SouthĀ  Africa, in search of answers. Here, she encounters several of his failed experiments, who claim to know the truth. These abominations lead herĀ  into a sinister world of chaos and destruction, where the birthplace ofĀ  evil is revealed.

SeannaĀ clings to the last piece of her humanity while struggling toĀ  accept her feelings for Samuel and what she has done to him. Just asĀ  Seanna embraces her fate, she is forced to choose between life as anĀ  immortal with the one she loves or sacrifice it all to save a world that does not deserve saving.

Enjoy this glimpse inside Dark Migration

ā€œThat pretty young thing is capable of destroying each and every one of you, and with very little effort.ā€ A pinched male voice echoed off the tiled galley walls. Edona and Marko quickly disbursed to another part of the room. Pike stepped aside but kept one hand locked on mine.

Bennett Palmer was hunch-backed with long wiry limbs resembling those of an insect, but when he moved across the room, he seemed to almost slither. Up close he looked very much like a human fly. His abnormally large eyes were too far apart, and his grayish skin was pulled too tight over a misshapen head, threatening to tear at any movement. Long clumps of stringy dark hair hung from various points on his skull. To say he was grotesque would be putting it mildly; he was a monstrosity. As he inched his way closer, I redirected my talents toward him. I received nothing but shadow with a hint of something unearthly sadistic.

Heā€™s not human.

Bennett tapped the side of his head with a crooked finger. ā€œThere is no need to waste such wonderful talents on me.ā€

He knows, but how does he know?

Giving me a once-over before bending slightly to put us at eye level, Bennett cracked his lips, revealing several rotten teeth. ā€œA lovely creature, you are. Samuel is undeniably proud of himself. I have never smelled another Dereltego as sweet as you.ā€ The unimaginable stench that accompanied his words made me gag.

ā€œIā€™ve never smelled anything as retched as you. What are you?ā€

Pikeā€™s grip tightened on my hand. Even though the manā€™s presence made his skin crawl, he hadnā€™t moved away. Pike always knew that something wasnā€™t right about this man, and now he hoped he might actually find out what that was.

ā€œMy sweet, it is none of your concern. Why not get some rest before Val wakes. You have been a busy girl and will have a lot to answer for.ā€

Asshole.

Practically hissing, Bennett took a step back to direct his sizzling words at Pike. ā€œSee to it she is showered and ready for dinner.ā€ He spun away from us, quickly making his way to the swinging doors. Just as he was about to exit, he turned to flash a hideous smile. ā€œOh, and Seanna, please try your best not to kill anyone else.ā€

Rage had been building from the moment he walked through the door, and not wanting to waste it, I lashed out before he could make a grand exit. ā€œMaybe Iā€™ll just kill you instead.ā€

Bennett paused in the doorway, appearing to cower with his humped shoulders, only to stand straight up and laugh. ā€œYou certainly may try.ā€

A chilly silence hung in the air after Bennettā€™s departure. Everyone there believed Bennett was evil, and they knew Val to be a vampire. But now there was another ā€˜unnaturalā€™ being to contend with, only I didnā€™t come with any defining labels.
