Four ’til Late
Road Ghosts #1
By Eric Garrison
My Review
Brett’s paranormal investigations are at a stand still, so he’s up for it when Uncle Gonzo invites him and his friend Jimbo, and ex-girlfriend Liz on a road trip, destination New Orleans.
Things get interesting right from the get go. The trip almost ends before it gets down the road, when they swerve to avoid a figure that appears out of the fog. Turns out it was a ghost.
But a ghost is the least of their worries, as a raging demon who hops from body to body and can sap their life force with a touch pursues them.
This road trip is anything but normal and they’ll be lucky to reach their destination.
This is one crazy road trip. Brett and Liz are working on renewing their relationship, Jimbo is harassed with phone calls from his insecure, jealous girlfriend Frannie, and Uncle Gonzo(not really anyone’s uncle) is always there to stir the pot, sarcastic with a capital S.
Where the author really got me was why, if Jimbo’s girlfriend may be the one who sicced the demon on them, was Brett the target? I kept searching for subtle clues, something to point me in another direction.
Then I got caught up in the dialogue, the witty repartee, and the pit stops they made along the way.
Even if a demon’s after you, you still have to take a bathroom break and eat. But thinking it won’t attack when others are around is a dangerous mistake for Brett and the poor guy barely escapes it clutches.
I think Gonzo’s van, Soccer Mom, was the perfect vehicle to carry us down this winding road. The weird gets weirder, the demon gets angrier, and the gang gets more desperate. This is where you fasten your seat belts and hold on to your butts. The path is filled with potholes.

My Review
It’s been months since Brett moved to be with Liz and still no work. Not much call for paranormal investigators at the moment.
When Liz and Brett hear of a creature, maybe a chupacabra, being seen in the woods, they pack up their camera and camping gear and set off to see what’s really out there.
Who should show up but Larry, Liz’s cyber-stalking ex- boyfriend. When they manage to get photos of the creature, Larry steals the camera. Liz isn’t worried though, she has the sim card.
It turns out it’s not a chupacabra. It looks like a gray-skinned little girl with weird yellow eyes. She stinks of death and munches on road kill.
Of course, Liz gains it trust and brings it home. After a hot bath and plenty of scrubbing, a little girl emerges. She’s still grey-skinned and unbreathing, but she smells a whole lot better.
Now Liz is determined to find out who Ashleigh (the name she gave the creature) is, why she’s a ghoul, and how to undo it. And once again things point to Brett.
It’s time for another road trip and the gangs all here.
As the book description tells you, there’s a whole lot of other things happening in this second book.
The gathering of ghost hunters was fun to read. All sorts of weird.
And Uncle Gonzo is good for mixing it up and providing the next day hangovers.
But my favorite part was the little ghoul, Ashleigh. She didn’t ask for what happened to her. And Liz was awesome to take her in. I don’t know if I could have. The author’s description made me feel sorry for her, but Ashleigh also creeped me out. Then, as surely as a hot bath washed away the stink and filth, that little ghoul stole my heart.
I’d do whatever needed doing to help her and that’s what this story is about.
Hop in Soccer Mom (Gonzo’s van) and join the gang on their latest road trip. The supernatural is happening and danger is just around the bend.

Synopsis
Poor Little Ghoul
Paranormal investigators Brett and Liz find themselves back in over their heads when a forest hunt for a roadkill-eating creature offers up a little surprise. Back home with their ghoulish house guest, it becomes clear there’s more to this investigation than either of them thought. Worse than that, Brett’s own fate is linked to the little ghoul’s.
So it’s back out on the road, with plenty of time for pit stops with a greedy ex, a convention of ghost hunters, partying with fake vampires, and even drinking and fighting alongside good ole Uncle Gonzo. But as the investigation goes deeper, and unseen connections come to light, Brett finds there’s much more at stake than getting through a rough patch with Liz.
A rescue mission. A race for a cure. New friends and old adversaries. Unbreakable bonds and supernatural danger. It’s going to be a wild ride. Can the friends save the nearly undead tween? Can she and Brett stop themselves from …Sinking Down?

Thanks so much for visiting fuonlyknew.
[…] Head on over to fuonlyknew ~ Laura’s Ramblins and Reviews – she gave my first two Road Ghosts books 5 stars each! I am so […]
I love it. Road ghosts. The covers are cool and I really think Sinking Down is very creepy. Fun and very entertaining reviews. Well done! Makes me want to pick them up and read them right now.
These are the ones I was telling you about. Man, I just ate em up like M&Ms!
Reminds me of Scooby Doo on steroids! Seriously, the premise does remind me of a Scooby Doo plot, only with real people, real situations, and real consequences. Maybe it’s the van! Or the cartoonish covers!
Just reading your reviews sets a certain . . . atmosphere that leaves me on the edge of my seat, wanting to know more. Well done.
(I can’t believe they brought the little ghoul HOME!?)
I couldn’t believe they brought her home either! I’d be way too scared. Maybe if I had a box of Scooby Snacks!
WOW!!! Great blog stop here Laura! Awesome books and I would love to read them. What’s up with Sherry? I haven’t been getting her emails for her posts lately! Am I on the avoidance list? I should be, but I’m like a fly… I keep buzzing around ya all! Lots of love, Emily
Thanks Emily! These were so fun and I’m anxious for the next one.
Sherry’s having issues with her blog. It won’t send out emails and sometimes it won’t let you comment. Here’s her link – http://www.fundinmental.com
You can go check to see what she’s up to. I know she has a bunch of posts and you can keep hitting previous to see them all. Her computer guy is working on the problem.
Thanks for the update! I was concerned that I was stalking her too much… LOL!! Lots of love, Emily
