Some chit chat.

I hope everyone is enjoying their Memorial Day weekend!

I’d like to thank all of the men and women in our military and their families for their service to our country and to us.

I’m having a marvelous weekend myself. My mother arrived at my house yesterday and a bunch of us got together and went to lunch. Then it was home to play Skip – Bo.

We are so addicted to that card game and our family is very competitive. Everybody hates to lose and the language can get very colorful. LOL

I moved to the Gulf Coast of Alabama over 29 years ago. My father had moved here. Then my brother did. Then I did. Then one of my sisters came down for vacation, went back to Michigan, packed up her stuff, and moved here. And then another of my sisters eventually moved here from California. I still have one brother and sister and my mother living in Michigan. My brother recently retired and visits often and may eventually move to the area. And I have a feeling when my sister retires, her and her husband may move to Texas as their daughter lives there.

So many of us now live in southern climes. It’s hard to live so far apart and now most of us live less than an hours drive apart. When my mother comes down for the summer it’s funny. We all want her to stay with us and we make sure we all get equal time with her at our homes. She’s my best friend. My comfort, support, and shopping buddy. And I believe she is an angel walking this planet. I’m am on Cloud Nine right now.

If I’m absent from here. If I don’t visit your posts and comment much, you’ll know my mother is at my house, and we are having fun!

Now. On to books! Got some good ones to share today!

I’ll be hopping over to check out your Sunday posts so be sure to leave me your link!

Have a great time with your mother! I’ve actually never heard of Skip – Bo, so I might have to Google that one!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Thanks. I love having her here:) And watch out for Skip-Bo. It can be a cut throat game. LOL

  2. Greg says:

Glad you’re having a great visit with your mom. I’ve never played that card game, but my grandmother loved it and played it all the time. And the gulf shore is beautiful- I can see why Michigan resident would move there. 🙂 Michigan’s nice but I would love a warmer winter.

    Happy Memorial Day!

    • fuonlyknew says:

We are having a blast and playing lots of Skip-bo. Didn’t take lone for those competitive juices to get flowing either. LOL I loved growing up in Michigan but feel I was meant to be a southern gal!

  3. I’m all about Southern climates. I don’t tolerate cold very well and I don’t want to have learn how to drive on snow. Have a wonderful visit with your mother. That’s so great that you have such a good relationship with her. Have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’ll take heat and humidity over snow any day! I don’t think I even remember how to drive in snow anymore. LOL Having a wonderful time with my mother. Thanks!

  4. emmak89 says:

    • fuonlyknew says:

Got ya! I have such fun shopping for freebies to offer. That’s why I wait to do my post. Want to make sure they are still free:) Having such fun with my mother!

  5. It sounds like playing cards at your house is a true battle, Laura 😉 I’m glad your mom has arrived safely, even if you’ll have to fight your siblings to get her to stay as much as possible at your house.
You got some really great-looking books this week! Child of Science looks amazing.
Have a fantastic week ahead, happy reading.

    • fuonlyknew says:

It didn’t take long before we were scowling at each other over the cards. LOL We are already plotting who she’ll stay with and when. LOL

  6. danielaark says:

Wow! What a busy week! Seven reviews plus all those events! Glad you are relaxing and having fun with mom 🙂 got a big bunch of the freebies, thanks for the tip! 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

A busy week and fun with my mother. We are so close and just seeing her sitting across from me is a treasure:)
      Have fun with those freebies!

  7. Hope your having a great weekend! Enjoy your new reads and yay for not grabbing those just because books! I am sure you are like me and have a ton to catch up on! 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

We both did good this week! I’m reading like mad and now need to start writing those reviews:)

  8. katarguelles says:

Have a great visit with your Mom! It’s nice that you have so many family living close to you. Enjoy your new books!

    • fuonlyknew says:

We are having a wonderful time and when my mother comes for the summer, we all get together more. It makes everything so memorable:)

  9. Grabbed some freebies. Mom’s luck is due to change, so beware. LOL

  10. Lola says:

Enjoy your long weekend! I vaguely remember that card game, I think we played that as family a few times. We’re not very competetitve, but it’s still nice to win. It sounds like all have a great time when your mom comes down to visit, enjoy your time with her! I like the cover of Avalon, looking forward to hear what you think of it. I grabbed Claus for free, I toured that series once and I am curious about the books. Thanks for sharing the freebies!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Thanks, Lola. We had a wonderful weekend, going to lunch, shopping, and playing cards. I think Avalon will be filled with laughs and a few tears. I have the Claus series and plan to read them this summer. My sister loved them!

  11. talksupeblog says:

    I am so happy it’s a 3-day weekend! Enoy yours and happy reading/relaxing 🙂

  12. Enjoy your books! I am glad you are enjoying time with family. Thanks for visiting my blog.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m reading them as fast as I can. LOL I’ve been on a winning streak with good books:) I counted the days until my mother got to my house. Feels so great to see her here!

  13. So nice to hear about so many of your family moving to the Gulf Coast. And as a mother I love hearing how much you all enjoy your mother visiting. 🙂 When we retire we are planning to move back to the Midwest since that’s where most of our family is. It’s great to be near family!

Hope you have a great week, enjoy your Mom and enjoy your books!

    • fuonlyknew says:

It’s wonderful that we ended up within 50 minutes of each other. What’s funny is we see more of each other when my mother comes down. LOL I guess life keeps us so busy we forget to take time to just share each other:)

  14. Have a great visit with your mom! My mom is my best friend. She lives in Florida and I live in Michigan, thankfully we are able to get together yearly. Skip-Bo is a family favorite around here as well.

    • fuonlyknew says:

We are almost reversed in where we live. LOL Isn’t it a blessing to have your mother as your best friend. I feel good just hearing her voice. We talk every day on the fun and when she got to my house, it was like she’d never left:)

  15. Kathryn says:

Sounds like your Mom must be feeling very wanted. Just checking out your spiel of the Christina George books, had heard of the first one, almost sounds like an ongoing TV drama. I must check them out a little more.

    • fuonlyknew says:

It’s funny how we all sit down and plan out where she’ll be staying and for how long. LOL She sure knows she’s loved:)
There’s something about Christina’s books. I’m not much for romance books but these captivated me. The third book is huge and I thought it might get redundant, but it didn’t:)

  16. Naomi Hop says:

It is great that you are so close with your mother! Glad you are getting time with her.
    Have an awesome week!

    Naomi @ Naomi’s Reading Palace

    • fuonlyknew says:

We are having such fun just being together. I don’t want to go back to work and missing one second with her. LOL

  17. atothewr says:

Have fun with your mom and have a great Memorial Day. I also love to play Skip – Bo. It is the only card game I ever learned. My wife and I play it all the time – she usually wins.

    • fuonlyknew says:

Thanks, Anthony. My mother stomped me at cards for 3 days but I got her last night! LOL Used to play it on TV but they cancelled the channel:(

  18. Panic and Shock sounds good, hope you enjoy. I’ve joined Tsu, but don’t get it

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m checking that out too. As for TSU<\, I'm not sure what it's about either but I have a feeling it's going to grow and I'll figure it out. LOL

  19. shannonmiz says:

Aw I hope you have a WONDERFUL time with your mom! That sounds so nice 🙂 And wow, TONS of books. I swear I have seen the cover of Save My Soul before, but on a different book! Maybe just really similar hah. Hope you enjoy all the books and have a fabulous week!!

  20. shannonmiz says:

I had to share this, because I DID find the book I was thinking of- and it is the EXACT same cover hahahhaa https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17314615-world-of-shell-and-bone

    • fuonlyknew says:

Thanks, Shannon. We are having a blast. That cover wasn’t an original. I think it’s new and I thought it looked familiar too. Heading over to check your link and see what book it is:)

  21. Sounds like fun! I love being close to my family too. I hope you have a great time and you got quite a lot in your haul. Thanks for stopping by!

  22. Great haul. You have some creepy covers this week, but I really need to check them out now 😉

Enjoy your books and have fun with your Mum!!!

  23. Emma says:

Your Memorial Weekend sound like a great family occasion.
The cover for “Justice Calling” is, ahem, calling to me.

  24. I hope you’re having a wonderful time with your mother! And what fun to get the family together for cards. In our family it’s Souse rather than Skip-Bo, and it can get pretty cutthroat. (Think double solitaire for 4 to 8 people, played at extremely high speed, with an extra pile of cards you have to get rid of to win.)

    • fuonlyknew says:

We are having a great time and she’s stomping me at Skip-Bo. I’ll have to check out Souse. Sounds perfect for when we all get together!
