Some chit chat.

Hello everyone and happy Sunday!

Time sure is flying. And so was everything outside my house this week!

Around 9 P.M. Thursday night I heard a strange whistling noise approaching my house. It got louder and louder, and then I heard this chuffing noise. I feared it was a tornado.

Thinking fast, I grabbed my cat and called my dog to me as I ran to my son’s room. We all gathered in a small hallway at one end of the house. The safest place because it’s surrounded by rooms.

We only had seconds before the storm hit. Could hear branches slamming on the house. Outdoor furniture tumbling off the back porch. And a loud crash as something broke. The rain and hail made such a din.

After about 20 minutes, the storm lessened and I dared to look outside. It was hard to see in the dark, but I noticed the pool ladder was gone, along with the outdoor furniture.

Living on the Gulf Coast, I’ve been through plenty of storms and hurricanes, but this scared me like you can’t imagine. I was sure it was a tornado and we were goners. Thank God we made it through safely.

In the light of day, I went out to view the damage. The pool ladder was in the middle of the yard, and my lawn furniture was all the way over by the fence. The loud crash was explained too. I had just replaced a toilet and the old one was on my porch, waiting for garbage day. It had blown over and the tank shattered. There were huge limbs broken around the house and my trash cans were in the road.

No major damage, just lots of clean up. All that and we never lost power! I hope I never go through that again.

Got lots of books to share, so let’s get to it!

I’ll be hopping over to check out your Sunday posts so be sure to leave me your link!

  1. Greg Hill says:

Wow, scary stuff! Glad it wasn’t worse. We had high winds this week too, did some damage but not like that. Looks like some good scary reads came in. 🙂

I like the cover of Eyeshine.

    • fuonlyknew says:

It sure was scary. I’m used to violent storms here in the south, but that wasn’t like any I’d been through before. Eyeshine was a fun one. I hope there will be more.

  2. Deborah says:

Love the cover of Sister Dear. It looks kinda menacing…

Glad you were okay in the tornado and it sounds like a horrible experience. It’s great though that you could hear and sense it coming!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Yeah, me too! It sounds suspenseful. Always up for that:) The storm came so fast. No warning and hit is seconds. Everything is okay but now the weather has turned cold again. Yuck! LOL

  3. Oh my goodness, Laura! That is so scary! I am thankful there wasn’t actual damage and you, son, and pets were alright. Ironically, through our safety “education” on emergencies as a child, I was always terrified of the possibility of tornadoes. I think I had panic attacks in bad storms, thinking there would be one and I’d be ripped out of my home! Have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’ve been in one before in my car. It was a little sports car and I was sure we were going to be sucked up into it. Hid behind a small building and made it through okay. No major damage, just a lot of cleaning up to do.

  4. I love Sandlin..enjoy. Laura your storm story was scary, good for you for thinking fast, and I am glad all is ok. We live in Tornado alley, although on the edge but it pays to be prepared.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I like Sandlin too, and this book sounds really good. Tornadoes scare me more than the hurricanes we get. They are so sudden. There wasn’t even a warning before the winds hit. Scared me into next year!

  5. Yeah, that kind of stuff is scary, I bet it was probably what they call Straight Winds. We get those some times and it sounds like a tornado. One time when we had one it looked like a hurricane was outside with how the trees where bending…I hate storms and it’s the only thing about Spring I hate. I live where there are a lot of tornados. 🙁

    Enjoy your reads!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Yeah, it was some super strong straight line winds. If it was a tornado, I’m sure my house would have gotten damaged. Lots of cleaning up to outside. I swear I did it last week and the week before, and….LOL

  6. That storm sounds very scary, Laura! I’m happy we don’t get such bad storms here, because I’m sure I would do something wrong and it might not end well… I’m glad you’re all safe, and ‘only’ have a lot of clean-up to take care of.
Your new books look amazing, Sin at Sea has a beautiful cover that is trying to lure me in from over here 😉
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I can’t begin to describe it, Lexxie! I was beyond terrified and I’ve been through some nasty hurricanes. One thing that hurts – In April it will be 2 years since my oldest sister passed away. I had a wind chime she gave me in a tree outside. I didn’t have time to take it down and it’s destroyed. No way I can fix it. I’m thinking of using the pieces and adding them to other ones though:)
Sin At Sea grabbed me too. Covers are so important, especially that they portray something of the story inside.

  7. Just another day on the coast. 🙂

  8. katarguelles says:

That is so scary! It’s good to hear you are safe and don’t have that much damage. I hope you don’t have too much cleaning up to do.

Thanks for sharing the freebies and I hope you have a safe week!

  9. I’m glad to read you and your family are okay after that storm. I can’t even imagine how scary it must be to witness that kind of weather. We don’t have tornedos here. We do have a view bad storms, but not so bad that the outside furniture isn’t save anymore. Scary stuff!!

‘Wild Man’s Curse’ looks and sounds like a great read.

Have a great week and happy reading! 😉

    • fuonlyknew says:

I had to search for some stuff. It actually picked things up and dumped there somewhere else. LOl No real damage though. I’m reading Wild Man’s Curse now and so far so good.

  10. Emma says:

I hate storms so I would have been past myself. Glad it all ended up ok bar some tidying and the like. Have a much calmer week this week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I don’t mind storms when I know they are coming. LOL This one came out of nowhere and was so strong. March is bad for them.

  11. Molly's Book Nook says:

WOW! That’s scary! I’m glad you’re all okay. I live in Southern California so there isn’t really any crazy weather here. I’m glad for that xD

    Here is my Sunday Post

    • fuonlyknew says:

Lucky you! It’s nothing to here to have a storm every afternoon in the summer. The heat whips them up. Here and gone in minutes.

  12. Lola says:

Whew that sounds horrifying, I am so glad you made it through that. I can’t imagine how scary that must’ve been. That was some quick thinking on your part to grab everyone and go to the safest place. We don’t have storms like that here, luckily. That’s good you didn’t lose power at least, although it’s a shame your poll ladder and outdoor furniture is gone.
Enjoy your new books and have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

We have a plan in place and have used it before. It’s easier to grab evryone now that we have only one dog and cat.

  13. Literary Feline says:

A storm like that would have frightened me too. I’m glad there was no major damage and the power stayed on. I hope you enjoy your new books. Have a great week!

  14. Wow! Sounds like quite a storm! How crazy that it came up so suddenly like that. Normally you get some warning. I’m glad everything was okay though I don’t envy you your cleanup. Have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

WE knew there were going to be some storms going through. They just didn’t mention they could be this bad. Odd, as they usually are on top of these.

  15. So happy you and yours are safe! Wind storms scare me more than blizzards. Grumpy Old Wizards sounds great. You find some of the best titles. All I was approved for were four cookbooks on Netgalley and that is all I got this week. Thank goodness because I am already swamped with books to review until it calms down a little in May. I have been pretty successful keeping July and August clear so I can read what I personally want during my summer break. Stay safe and have a wonderful week. 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

Thanks so much. All safe and sound:) I have books in so many different genres that I’m reading right now. Keeps things fresh:)

  16. Oh, I hate storms! When I hear them, I am also petrified…and we’ve only ever had a couple of tornadoes, brief ones, in the years I’ve lived here. Thunder can do it to me, though.

Enjoy your books…glad the damage was limited.

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’ve been through hurricanes that didn’t scare me as much as this one did! We came through alright with no real damage:)

  17. So glad you did not suffer more damage than you did. Storms are scary. I like the title Pennies from Burger Heaven. Have a great week.

  18. Christy LoveOfBooks says:

Oh wow, how scary! Glad everyone was safe and only minor damage. Looks like you got some good books. Have a great, tornado free week!

  19. atothewr says:

Glad you made it through safe. We had a tornado touch down about 10 miles from our house once. It was so close that we had debris falling into our yard from a Lowe’s store that got destroyed by it. Scary stuff. Also, thanks for the awesome review and all your help on The Dead of Winter.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’ve been through one before. Stuck in my car. A building helped me keep from going to Kansas! LOL
It’s a pleasure to share your stories Anthony:)

  20. Angelized1st says:

Storms on the Gulf Coast are no joke. Glad you and your family are all right. At least you didn’t lose power, could contact loved ones, and nothing was majorly destroyed. Have a good and storm free week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

They sure aren’t! It was strange we didn’t lose power. My family called to check on us and were on Facebook checking in too. The only thing that we lost on and off was satellite.

  21. Emma says:

I can’t imagine experiencing a tornado or a really bad storm. Glad you’re okay.

  22. Naomi @ Nomi’s Paranormal Palace says:

Storms are pretty scary at times, i’m glad that there wasn’t major damage. Enjoy all your new reads!

  23. Lauren Becker says:

Oh wow, that would have been really scary to me! I’m glad nothing too major happened or got ruined though. Sheesh, it could have been really bad! Where I live, we SOMETIMES get tornadoes, but I’ve only had a few around me in my lifetime I believe and thankfully none affected my house.

  24. Oh my goodness Laura! That sounds terrifying! We get tornado threats more than I’d like here in Tennessee, so I definitely know that fear. I am really glad you guys are ok! I hope you enjoy all of your new reads and have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Thanks, Jessica. It’s not something I want to experience again. And here we are, another bunch of storms all weekend.
