Genre:

My teaser from 27% in the eBook.

In this scene, Eva is looking for an old neon sign for the hotel.

Eva tugged on the sign and dragged it to where she could look at it. It was an old neon sign that was in the shape of a flamingo.

“If I remember correctly it has three colors. Very rare as most neon signs have one or two colors. The flamingo is white, which really shows up against the pink porcelain background. No vacancy is red and Vacancy is blue. The flamingo flies every five seconds or so. Really would be seen from the road.”

This is such a fun read. I was sucked right in. Might be partially because its set in the south and I’m a southern gal. Plus, I love staying in the quaint family owned motels along the coast. There are four more books in the series and each can be read as a stand alone. Different characters wind up at the Last Chance Motel and we get their stories. If this books ends up being as good as I’m hoping it is, I’ll be grabbing them too.

Synopsis

Eva Hanover – a brilliant career, a gorgeous brownstone in Brooklyn, and a sexy husband. Or, at least, she thinks so. In a wink of an eye, Eva’s husband leaves her. She loses the brownstone and her career. With only the clothes on her back, she flees cold New York for the sunnier climate of Key Largo.

As Eva puts it, her marriage went south and so does she. Stuck in Key Largo, it is sink or swim for the devastated Eva. Starting over is hard for anyone, but Eva wonders if she can. Determined to make a new life, Eva buys a rundown mid-century motel and renovates it. She hires Mike Bishop for her general contractor, but from the very beginning they cross swords of how to remodel the Last Chance Motel. It irritates Eva that many of Mike’s ideas are betters than hers. It couldn’t be that Mike bothers her because he is handsome, sexy, and rugged, could it? Eva needs is a handsome and sexy man around her like she needs another hole in her head. Yet, she finds herself drawn to Mike and is grateful for his help.

In the midst of the motel’s renovation and her growing feelings for Mike, her ex-husband shows up and begs for her forgiveness, saying the divorce was a mistake. He wants her back.

What is Eva to do? Does she throw in the towel on the motel and go back to her ex, or does she stick with the renovation and Mike? One thing Eva does know, as the Last Chance Motel comes back to life, so does she. Step by step, Eva is determined to find purpose and happiness in life again. The question is how and with which man?

  1. Wow, the covers make these look like such fun reads!

  2. sjhigbee says:

Ooo… as you know, Laura – I’m not a huge romance fan, but I really LOVE the sound of this series. For starters, it seems a lot more realistic – ex-husbands popping up and making regretful noises? Been there… And the idea of the motel being and link in each of these novels seems a great premise, too. Thank you for sharing!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Yep. I experienced the ex hubby thing too, Sarah. There are many things that hit me already with this book. Going to be fun to review it. And I like the idea of the motel being a link to each book. The synopsis makes it sound like a bit of a love triangle, but it isn’t. Just in case that turns people away.

  3. Kathy Martin says:

This does sound like a nice romance series. Come see my teasers here. Happy reading!

  4. The covers are cute and it sound like a fun series. 🙂

  5. I do love the sound of this one! Family owned motels with flamingos in neon. Great! The characters who come to visit will add to the mysteries…sounds so tempting.

Thanks for sharing, and here’s mine: “MY ABSOLUTE DARLING”

    • fuonlyknew says:

I know. I got all excited when she found that old sign. And I adore flamingos. Wish the sign was featured on one of the covers!

  6. Hiya! I’m back! After having laptop troubles it’s taken me a while to get sorted.

Hope you are well. Normal service has now been resumed LOL

    Luv Sassy X

  7. Yvonne says:

I have the first one on my Kindle. It looks great and I love these type of covers too. What fun!

  8. Alice Audrey says:

A flying flamingo sounds very symbolic for her flight to Florida. I hope she doesn’t take back the philandering husband. That type is rarely a good bet.

  9. ljennison says:

Love the sound of the sign. Good teaser! Would have been nice if it was on one of the covers, though they are fine the way they are. It sounds like a fun series. Thanks for coming by!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Yep, would have been fun to see the sign! I have a feeling I’ll be grabbing the other books too. I think there is some kind of box set.

  10. Hi Laura,

This series may be a bit too ‘chick lity’ for my liking, but I am not going to rule it out, as they do sound like fun stories as light reading to counter my usual diet of murder, suspense and thrills!

I can always appreciate a good suite of cover art and this bright, contemporary style really suits the series so well. There are some very talented cover artists and graphic designers out there!

    Thanks for sharing 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m reading a lot of thrillers and horror right now for October posts and this was some fun comic relief. I really am drawn to this kind of cover art too, so it’s a bonus for me:)

  11. Eustacia Tan says:

Sounds like a fun read and I hope she doesn’t take him back!

  12. Not my cup of tea, but it does look great fun!

  13. Colletta says:

    Sounds fun! Enjoy 🙂

  14. This sounds like such a fun read! I can’t imagine renovating and rebuilding a cute, quaint hotel and bringing it back to life.

  15. I never knew neon signs usually only came in 2 colours! Interesting tease! The book sounds awesome! Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I didn’t know that either. I love the older, classic ones. Would probably collect them but so expensive. LOL
