Some chit chat.

Halloween has come and gone and now we’re heading into the second week of November. Crazy how time flies! Not much new for me this week. I did finish Hill House. My son and I broke it up into two episodes each viewing, at night…..in the dark. LOL Every time someone said that in the movie I grinned. Spooooky!

We finally got some cool weather here. It dipped down below 50 last night. The house didn’t feel cold though. The heat from the sun during the day keeps it pretty warm in the evenings. I did spend some time getting out the cold weather clothes, washing them, and putting them in easy reach.

I also took a walk around the house, enjoying all of the plants before winter does set in and they die off til next year. Here they are now. All of these grew bigger this year than any other year.

20180904_132159

If we don’t get and freezing temps this winter, they’ll stay green. But the almanac says we are going to have brutal cold after the first of the year. I’m hoping its wrong!

Today my boss and his son are going to try to come by and help build me a fire pit. I get so many limbs and cuttings that I want to be able to sit outside on cool nights and burn them, enjoying the fire and relaxing with a hot cuppa.

Have a fabulous  Sunday and brand new week!

  1. Trin Carl says:

31 days of thrills and chills. Sounds like fun!

  2. Greg says:

Ooh a fire pit! Nice. And those plants did really grow! Wow.

I’m thinking of trying Hill Hous but it sounds kinda freaky. 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I can’t wait for the fire pit. It’s handy for burning the yard debris and I love to sit and watch the flames, smell the burning branches. It’s comforting. Hill House was freaky! Just finished it and my son and I are still talking about it.

  3. Loved Hill House! It wasn’t that scary but I was very jumpy. And yes I don’t know where the year has gone,

  4. Bitter cold after the first of the year . . . blech.

I’m looking forward to your review of Devouring Dark!

  5. I’m just about reaqdy to hibernate for the winter too! One more trip out to buy in the winter medicines and chocolate treats and I’m done!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Wow. You are ahead of me. I did do the usual cold and flu meds. I keep them stocked year round. Most of my holiday shopping is gift cards so I wait to get the cute looking cards.

  6. sjhigbee says:

I am so impressed at how much growth your plants made – but your growing season is quite long, isn’t it? A fire pit sounds ideal for cool nights – and good use of all that wood you need to cut back…

Congratulations on your Thrills and Chills reading list – you certainly nailed that one, Laura:)) Have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Yes. They will continue to grow unless a a couple of hard freezes get them. Waiting for help to get the fire pit dug. Only problem is we get a lot of breeze from the Gulf so windy days I can’t use it safely. I had fun with my Chills and Thrills. I’ll be cutting back on reviews after November. Need to gibe my brain a rest. LOL

  7. I’m not brave enough to watch The House on the Hill but people seem to be enjoying it!
Watching it in the dark though? Probably the right approach but I swear I’d cry, lol.

  8. Really do hope you get that warm winter 🙂 a fire sounds great. Have a great week, Laura 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

Our winter doesn’t usually get going until in January. They say it’s going to be a late winter with some bitter cold. Yuck!

  9. I hope you loved Hill House as much as I did! I can’t believe it’s going to be winter already. It seems like your plants were just starting to bloom for spring…

    • fuonlyknew says:

I did love Hill House. A perfect fit for me. My plants grew more than ever this year. I love to look at them.

  10. Beware Of The Reader says:

You have such a cool boss Laura! And did I spot a banana tree in your garden? I remember when I lived in Portugal for some months we had one in our garden. I never believed the tree fell when the fruits were gone yet it did! Enjoy your Sunday!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Yep. Banana trees. No fruit this year so unless they freeze I’ll just trim them back in the spring and maybe get fruit next year.

  11. Oh a fire pit would be nice (except not where I live-its either too hot or too cold. There is no inbetween!)
    Glad you enjoyed Hill House!

  12. I can’t believe it’s November either. This year has really flown by. I don’t watch scary shows, so I won’t be checking Hill House. 😉

    Have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

We had the time change last night too so now it feels more like November. The slant of the sun is lower in the sky and it is so blue. No humidity to make it hazy.

  13. feeroberts64 says:

I love your plants! So beautiful. I hope the weather is good to them.

  14. I love those banana plants. I’ve got to get me some of those.

  15. Gayathri Lakshminarayanan says:

Congrats on finishing the 31 days of chills and thrill. I loved hill house as well it was soo good!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Thanks. It was fun sharing all of those spooky books. Hill House had me going. Especially the last few episodes!

  16. kozbisa says:

I get really sad every time someone talks about the impending brutal winter. Curse that almanac! I hate winter.

  17. Stormi D Johnson says:

Can I hibernate from now till Jan. 2nd? 🙂 I would rather fast forward through the holiday season, I know I am a Scrooge…lol. I would like to hurry the winter right along with it though! I am already missing summer!.

That is cool of your boss and his son to help you build a fire pit! Wish we had one of those that would be super cool!

    Have a great week!

    Week in Review

    • fuonlyknew says:

The almanac says brutal temps here later in the winter so that fire pit will come in handy. I miss pool weather too!

  18. StackingMy BookShelves says:

The cover for Hunter Shea’s book is just so gross. I love the plant it’s huge. We are to cold here for anything to grow. In fact with the rain we lost all our lovely yellow and orange leaves. Have a great week.

    Mary #SundayRoundup #43!

    • fuonlyknew says:

LOL Hunter has wicked covers for his books. It’s warm here. Probably because we have high chances for rain all week. Most everything is still green too. A lot of the trees keep their leaves so at least we have some green during the winter. The grass gets kind of brown.

  19. I need to redo my firepit. It gets a lot of action especially lately. We dipped down to 38º last night. Whew! Chilly for NC this early in November but it makes for good sleeping weather. 🙂

  20. northwoman says:

Oh I love a fire pit. We had a lake property when we lived in MN and we had a fire pit at the lake. It was so gorgeous. Of course, it’s already snowed there. Here in NC we are 60-70 with 40s at night. It’s going to drop 10 degrees in about a week. It’s great for sleeping. I also got Stripped Down by Erin McCarthy. She did a sort of NASCAR type set of romance books a few years ago and I enjoyed them. Anne – Books of My Heart.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I can’t wait to use the fire pit. We don’t have too much cold weather and we do I like to get out there. I’ve not read any of Erin’s books. This will be the first for me.

  21. ERK says:

Those plants look gorgeous 😍 Hope they get to live through the winter! (Which is completely illogical, I know 🤣)

  22. S. J. Pajonas (spajonas) says:

Oooooh, a fire pit sounds lovely!

  23. I can’t believe it will be Thanksgiving in three weeks. Things are pretty stressful here this week so I’m hoping my reading keeps me sane. I hate sub-zero temps and hope the forecasters are wrong!

  24. Liliana says:

Mojitos and Murder sounds like so much fun! Also, it’s so awesome that you’re getting a fire pit built!!

    Happy reading!

  25. Carole says:

I am so not ready for cold weather. I know it is coming though and they are predicting freezing temperatures this week. Your plants are lovely! I hope you have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

We’re getting some steamy weather this week. 80s and rainy. The humidity is thick! I’ll take it over cold though, which I know is coming.

  26. I did much the same a week or so ago looking at all my summer plants one last time. We did get a freeze so they’re gone now (I saved a couple for inside). Hope yall don’t get the expected cold!
