I’d go up to my room and lay in bed. Pretend I’d gone to bed instead of looked out the window. Imagined a night without the storm. Sometimes, I’d even fall asleep and wake up. But nothing had changed.

From what I gathered at this scene, there was a strange storm and Jack’s mother and sister went missing. For some reason he and his dad don’t sleep in the house now. They sleep in a tent outside. I’m getting so curious!

I came across this on Bookbub and was immediately intrigued by the synopsis. It raised questions and I wanted answers. Plus, it has such a wicked cover!

What do you think? Does the synopsis hook you too? What do you think of the cover?

Synopsis

Outré is the first book in a trilogy titled Deviation. The trilogy offers different perspectives on what happened in Pinkerton, Iowa, in the year 1989. The goal of Outré is to take one event (a tornado), add another set of events (women missing, people dead, animal mutilations, the possibility of aliens and alien abduction, others different than the norm) and come to a perspective of what could have happened.

This is Jack Cahill’s account. Fifteen-year-old Jack Cahill, along with his friends Pitts and Diddleman, are lead to believe it was not a tornado that destroyed a large area of Pinkerton but an alien abduction. Their “need to know” sets them on a quest of speculation, accusation, and investigation.

The concept for the trilogy comes from the question: Can we ever be sure that our perception of things is right?

  1. Beware Of The Reader says:

Well Laura the cover makes me think of an alien ship looming in the stormy sky!

  2. I like the cover even though I can’t quite make it out. But isn’t that the point? Aliens or weather? Yes, the synopsis is good!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I think I see a ship and a tornado. I bet the physical cover is stunning. I do love dark, mysterious cover art.

  3. This does sound like it is setting up for something to happen! Very ominous. I hope that you enjoy reading it! 🙂

  4. So that’s a tornado on the cover. I was having a hard time figuring it out. Of course, it may have something to do with the thunderstorms that ran through in the middle of the night and a 112 pound dog having an anxiety attack. Guess I didn’t give him enough Benadryl.

    • fuonlyknew says:

We get some very strong storms here. My dog, Lassie, would get so freaked out the whole bed would shake like in the Exorcist movie!

  5. Tammy says:

This sounds creepy. I’m still trying to figure out what’s on the cover!

  6. Wow, I do want to know what happens. Thanks for sharing, and here’s mine: “BEFORE SHE KNEW HIM”

I hope you enjoy this one–it sounds intriguing. I’m curious as to why they are sleeping in the tent now too–especially given the storm. Have a great weekend!
