Genre: Horror

Synopsis

From the acclaimed author of The Troop—which Stephen King raved “scared the hell out of me and I couldn’t put it down.…old-school horror at its best”—comes this utterly terrifying novel where The Abyss meets The Shining.

A strange plague called the ’Gets is decimating humanity on a global scale. It causes people to forget—small things at first, like where they left their keys…then the not-so-small things like how to drive, or the letters of the alphabet. Then their bodies forget how to function involuntarily…and there is no cure. But now, far below the surface of the Pacific Ocean, deep in the Marianas Trench, an heretofore unknown substance hailed as “ambrosia” has been discovered—a universal healer, from initial reports. It may just be the key to a universal cure. In order to study this phenomenon, a special research lab, the Trieste, has been built eight miles under the sea’s surface. But now the station is incommunicado, and it’s up to a brave few to descend through the lightless fathoms in hopes of unraveling the mysteries lurking at those crushing depths…and perhaps to encounter an evil blacker than anything one could possibly imagine.

I’ve had this on my shelf since November 2014. I really enjoyed Nick Cutter’s book, The Troop, and I’m sharing The Deep today so I will remember to get to it.

The above cover is the one I won. Here are some alternative covers.

  1. OMGosh, even the blurb scares me. I like the cover with the National Book Review at the top. It makes the water look so lonely, like you’re isolated out there.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I like that cover too. All of them are good and it is hard to choose a favorite. I’d pick it up no matter which cover I came across:)

  2. Tammy says:

I have a Nick Cutter book somewhere, but I’m not sure which one. I’d love to pick this up at some point😁

  3. This is pretty much 2 of my worst nightmares (apocalypse + my mind giving out) combined! I think the blurb will give me nightmares but I hope you enjoy it!

  4. I have The Troop to read and want to read this one as well. I’m pretty sure that I’ll like his stuff even though Little Heaven didn’t work for me.

  5. Sophia Rose says:

Oooh, sounds eerie. I can see why you snagged it and hope its as good as its blurb.

  6. This one looks proper scary!

  7. Beware Of The Reader says:

I do prefer the cover you won Laura!

  8. Carole says:

I could have sworn that I had this book as well but it looks like I have The Troop instead. Congrats on the win! I hope you do enjoy this one.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’m excited to finally get to this. The Troop was such a fun read and this sounds like it will be too.

  9. I tried this author once and didn’t take to him but I’m glad to see you are enjoying his work!

  10. I’ve never read this author, but this does look good. I hope you enjoy it whenever you get around to trying it.
