When I read the description for this book, I was intrigued. When the synopsis is something that could actually occur, I know I’ll be asking questions as I read the story.
This is a chilling depiction of what may lie ahead in the future.

Book Description:
A Death Sentence on Your 60th Birthday is Just the Beginning…
It’s Hank Reed’s birthday. As a citizen of the United Federation of Nations that means a mandatory death sentence simply because he turned sixty years old. Referred to as “retirement,” it’s one of the desperate steps the government has taken to curb overpopulation. Retirement is a widely accepted fact of life on a dying planet ruled by a tyrannical government. Hank’s execution goes ahead as planned but state sponsored euthanasia isn’t what it seems. The Reed family learns what really happens to retirees when secrets the UFN keep from the public start to unravel.
This book is intended to be read by adults and may be unsuitable for children under 17. Contains indecent language and descriptions of graphic violence.

How about you? Got a tease? Tell me!
Heck, I’d only have four years left. How old is too old? I think its in the mind of the beholder. And I’ll be holding out for a few decades yet. 🙂
Great Post, Laura.
I’m only 5 years away and in no hurry to retire! At least not this way! LOL
Uh, oh. I’d be long gone! I was so excited by the first–someone’s sixtieth birthday. Yea, a book about someone near my age. Then I kept reading–well, that’s twice as long as the Logan’s Run people. I’m curious what his family discovers. Maybe Hank isn’t really dead. Gray power!
My book this week is rather tame by comparison – or not. The Sea Wolf by Jack London http://wp.me/pZnGI-bA
Gray power!! I don’t know if what they discover is any better than being retired.
Knowing how these stories usually go, that’s probably true.
Uh oh. I’d be long gone too. LOL I love the synopsis and the spooky cover.

Good thing it’s fiction, at least for now…..
Well yikes! That sounds like a really intense read. But I’m intrigued by the premise, and the whole population control issue. Great pick, and thanks for stopping by My Teaser earlier!
Definitely gets intense and has more going on than just the retirement angle. I enjoyed your teaser too.
You had me with that first teaser! Awesome!
I had fun choosing the teasers. There were several I wanted to use.
Great teasers… sounds kind of intense!
Thanx for visiting my TT
Naomi @ Nomi’s Paranormal Palace
It’s intense and strange. Let’s hope this stays fiction!
I’m intrigued, but the disclaimer about graphic violence turns me off.
My Teaser is from KATIE AND THE IRISH TEXAN.
I haven’t run into a lot of violence yet but I have a ways to go before I finish.
Wow..that was one heck of a teaser..and yikes!
LOL Yikes describes it great!
I like when the story is realistic. Thanks for sharing the teasers!
That’s what drew me to this one Andrea. That it could happen.
I’m not sure I like the sound of this book, a little grim for me to read but I love the teaser. Thanks for sharing and visiting my TT http://cleopatralovesbooks.wordpress.com/2014/08/19/teaser-tuesday-august-19/
Retirement is only the tip of the iceberg in this one. It’s a grim beginning but then it gets mysterious.
