Here we are again. This week went by so fast.
I spent this weekend wandering around outside, checking to see which plants survived the cold so far. I’ve got plans to move some this spring and want to buy some small fruit trees and plant an herb garden.
I got the idea for growing my own herbs when I decided to start trying the recipes from the cozy mysteries I’ve been reading. There are some really good ones and I’m collecting them. Herbs and spices can be very expensive so I figured growing my own would get me out in the fresh air, keep me busy, and save on money.
My son is excited as he’s the official taste tester and has enjoyed a few recipes I’ve tried already. I usually follow the recipe precisely the first time and then tweak it the next time I cook. It’s fun to see what I come up with, but sometimes it’s a disaster. LOL Hence the garden and saving on money.
I’ve also been playing with the idea of reviewing the book and sharing the recipe with pictures of my efforts. Should be fun and I’ll even post the disasters.
My wish is to one day to be able to make tacos that taste as good as Taco Bell’s. I love theirs and could eat them everyday.
Do you ever try the recipes from cozy mysteries? Do you try ones from the cooking networks?
And just for fun, what’s your favorite fast food?
I’ll be hopping over to check out your Sunday posts so be sure to leave me your link!
Psst! It’s Mardi Gras!

It‘s time for Mardi Gras!

Let the good times roll!
Hey girl, Happy Mari Gras. We did our first parade Friday night, wish you were there. The theme was great, stop by and you”ll see what I mean. LOL Grabbed some of your goodies. Happy reading and enjoy your Sunday.
Nice haul, Laura! Some of your new books seem to be deliciously creepy!
Since you’re actually trying out recipes from your books, I’m sure you’d have quite a few ideas to share in my Thirsty Thursday & Hungry Hearts meme 🙂
We have a herb-garden, too, and it’s so nice to have fresh herbs to use for cooking! I can’t wait for spring when I can plant tomatoes, strawberries and other goodies as well 🙂
Have a fantastic week, and happy reading.
Great selection of books…enjoy! My favorite fast food is from Moe’s Southwest Grill–tacos, or tortillas. Okay, now I’m hungry…
My weekly recap: http://www.bookclublibrarian.com/2015/02/weekly-book-recap-96.html
I’ve wanted to try out a few recipes from books I’ve read, but I never get around to it! It’s a fab idea, even if they turn out to be disasters 😀 I have such a bad habit of looking at a recipe, and then putting my own spin on it! (Oops!) I really should follow along first, then adapt it! Have a great week, and happy reading!
My SP
I grow my own herbs every year. It’s fun! I also grow tomatoes and my peppers did so well last year that I’ll be planting them again next year. I love planning out what I’m going to plant.
I had Taco Bell this week. 🙂
I love the idea of reviewing the recipes with your results! Sounds fun! I grow my herbs and it definitely is wonderful. Being able to go pick your own whatever is so nice. I grow 2 types of parsley, a few different kinds of basil, oregano, mint and chives. I’ve tried thyme but have had awful luck with it. Maybe this year! I also grow different tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, zucchini and squash. You’ve got me thinking about my garden again. Can’t wait to get started! Enjoy your new books and have a great week!
I always have wnated to grow my own herbs and spices one day when I have a garden. Keep us updated how it goes. Herbs and spices are pricey indeed, I often buy them at a toko or asian supermarket, they are so much cheaper there.
Just like you when I am trying out new recipes I first follow the recipe exactly and then I tweak it, although I migth do some small tweaks the first time like with spices when I know i’s not enough.
I haven’t read any cozy mysteries so far, but I really want to branch out into the genre, I just don’t know were to start.
My favourite fast food is pizza, once in a while I just have to eat a good pizza, yum!
I would love to have a herb garden. I’ve only grown mint but it would save us a lot of money to grow more herbs. I think it would be fun to share the recipes you try. I’m always looking for something new to try! We have a lot of favorite fast foods and Taco Bell is one of them. You got another great haul this week and I hope you enjoy reading them! Happy Mardi Gras and have a great week!
I haven’ tried the recipes but I kind of want too but like you said lots of herbs and spices. I want an herb garden too! Good luck with that venture!
I bet you see books from your freebie stash on my STS just about every week..lol..I picked up some this week. 🙂

I’ve thought about trying recipes I’ve seen in some of the cozy mysteries, but haven’t. I’d be interested to see some of your creations, Laura. You got some good books this week. Have fun reading!
I really want to start reading Dawn Eastman’s series. It looks so good. I never try the cozy recipes, but I don’t really do much cooking anyway. Have a great week!
I am jealous that you are experiencing gardening weather. I am not. Unless I can grow snow. Here’s me: http://fangswandsandfairydust.com/2015/01/shadow-in-summer.html
I love Taco Bell, I wish I could make similar tacos as well. Have you seen the Taco Bell taco kits they sell at grocery stores? That’s probably the closest I have come. Enjoy all these great reads!
I LOVE growing my own Herbs, I didn’t get to do them last year but I plan to do it this year. When the season is over I dry some out and freeze some also. Makes it last a little longer 🙂 Nothing like fresh herbs.
I don’t read cozy mysteries but I love trying out new recipes.
Have a great week and Happy Reading!
Enjoy your amazing haul….and thanks for sharing. Thanks for visiting my blog.
Ah, good luck with your herbs. I have the compete opposite of a green thumb so I don’t think anything would survive around me. Ha
Oh these look sufficiently creepy. 0.0 I really don’t know what my favourite fast food is…I literally never eat fast food. BUT I LOVE HOT CHIPS. We call them chips in Australia, maybe you call them fries?? Like Fish and Chips? That’s my favourite. hehe. And I guess it’s counted as fast food, because it’s greasy salty deliciousness. Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!
That’s quite a haul you picked up this week! I haven’t read any cozy mysteries, but I have tried recipes that have been mentioned in other books I’ve read.
I love the cover of A Fright to the Death, am going to check that one out.
I’m really missing being out in the garden at the moment. I can’t wait for spring so I can get out there and start planting some seeds. I’ve not done much in the way of herbs, but am tempted to give some a go this year.
As for fast food, I just can’t decide between pizza and KFC, they’re both delicious 🙂
Can’t wait to read A Fright to the Death! And all your other books look great too! Going to check out some of those freebies!
Thank you for stopping by my blog 🙂 You got some awesome books. Happy Reading!
Ohhh, I love the new books! So many pretty covers. Wish I didn’t kill every plant I ever tried to plant. It seems like such a relaxing hobby 🙂
I’d love to have a garden and fruit trees. I always manage to kill plants though. I’m more of a cactus person. Although I did recently purchase basil and rosemary from my grocery store (the ones that are potted and say “just add water”). I re-potted them and placed them outside and they seem to be doing good.

I used to have a herb garden as it was here when I moved into my new house but it no longer exists as I didn’t get enough use out of it. Maybe another time I’ll try again.
My favourite fast food is….Subway or McDonalds, depends on my mood.
Have a great week.
I had a herb garden when I had a house and garden – it was so beautiful and perfumed ! If you like herbal tea, I recommend you mint and thyme, a very good mix and when you boil them in the kitchen, it perfumes the whole house 🙂 Have a great week !
Oooo! Look at those awesome books. A few new ones that I’ll have to look further into. 🙂 Thank you!
