My Tease for this week is from
The Loch
by Steve Alten
My Tease is from page 68 in the Paperback.
Dark Water. Heavy fog. Salmon everywhere. Jumping. Panicking. A presence…circling below! Left ankle, seized with pain. Dragged underwater…can’t breathe!

Synopsis
Loch Ness holds secrets, ancient and deadly. Does a monster inhabit its depths, or is it just myth? Why, after thousands of reported sightings and dozens of expeditions, is there still no hard evidence? Marine biologist Zachery Wallace knows, but the shock of his near-drowning as a child on Loch Ness have buried all memories of the incident. Now, a near-death experience suffered while on expedition in the Sargasso Sea has caused these long-forgotten memories to re-surface. Haunted by vivid night terrors, stricken by a sudden fear of the water, Zach finds he can no longer function as a scientist. Unable to cope, his career all but over, he stumbles down a path of self-destruction…until he receives contact from his estranged father…a man he has not seen since his parents’ divorced and he left Scotland as a boy. Angus Wallace, a wily Highlander who never worked an honest day in his life, is on trial for murdering his business partner. Only Zachary can prove his innocence – if he is innocent, but to do so means confronting the nightmare that nearly killed him seventeen years earlier. Incorporating the latest research and “new evidence,” that leads to real answers concerning the monster’s identity, best-selling author Steve Alten weaves a tale of horror about the most publicized and controversial creature ever to exist.

Thanks so much for visiting fuonlyknew!
How about you? Got a tease? Tell me!
This sounds good. Are you enjoying it? Can’t wait to see a review on this one. 🙂
This is actually a reread as I just received Vostok, the second book to read and review. I love Steve’s books and am ecstatic to have got his newest one. His MEG series is awesome and I’m waiting for the movie!
Loch Ness is always intriguing.
My TT this week: Fearless Fourteen by Janet Evanovich at http://wp.me/pZnGI-js
It sure is. I wonder if we’ll ever get to “the bottom” of it. LOL I really enjoy Janet’s books and Fearless Fourteen is one I’ve yet to read.
Janet is up to the early 20s now with Stephanie. I don’t know how I got so far behind. I think I sort of forgot about the series during a move and general busyness. I chose this as one of my “Finish the Series” challenges.
Sounds pretty intense! Here’s my teaser for this week: http://justasecondblog.blogspot.com/2015/02/teaser-tuesdays-february-17-2015.html
It is. There’s also some interesting history explored in this book. Alten is excellent on research.
That teaser definitely manages to convey the panic the main character must be feeling! I might be moving to Scotland next year, at which point I will most certainly be visiting Loch Ness…although not swimming in it after this teaser! Thanks for sharing 🙂 Hope you have a great week!
My Tuesday post
Juli @ Universe in Words
My mother visited there. She didn’t see Nessie and she didn’t get in the water either!
Good teaser. Thinking I’ll add that to my tbr list. Thanks for sharing.
It’s a good one. I just received the ARC for the second book, Vostok. Can’t wait to read it.
That’s a great Teaser! Lots of tension. Now I’m curious.
My Tuesday post features ALL THAT GLITTERS.
There are so many interesting things going on in this one.
My kiddos and I actually did a study on this last month! Thanks for sharing this! I’m totally going to have to check it out 🙂
My Teaser
I hope you do check it out Claudia. Steve Alten is a wonderful writer and his research is excellent.
Interesting Teaser!
Thanks for stopping by my TT. I just finished it and it was a great book! 🙂
So glad you loved your book. I get excited when I love a book and I enjoy sharing it with everyone!
This one sounds like a good thriller. The cover is quite creepy. Thank you for stopping by. 🙂
This is one of those where I wish there were pictures! LOL
Oh, that doesn’t sound like a good situation for him! Hope he makes it if he’s a good guy! Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!
This scene really got to me. I’m always uneasy when in deep or dark water. Afraid of what’s under me!
Hi Laura,
You’ve got me running scared with this excerpt I’m afraid, and the detailed synopsis isn’t helping any either!
I have an innate fear of the water, so you wouldn’t find me going near Loch Ness, or the Sargasso Sea for that matter. I’m not too bad in the shower, but in general I hate having water near my face, have never been able to swim and could never go on a cruise. Even an overnight ferry crossing between England and France was a trauma and I never slept a wink and I suspect a channel tunnel crossing would have similar challenges!
As a natural sceptic, I’m afraid I just can’t bring myself to believe in the myth and legend of ‘Nessie’, despite the periodic reports and accounts which hit the UK press from time to time. For that reason alone, this probably isn’t a book for me, but thanks for sharing the descriptive writing of Steve Alten.
A friend of mine has your same fear of the water. I didn’t understand it until the first time I was on the water, far enough out that I couldn’t see land. But I’ve always loved the water and love living by the ocean. My fear is what’s in the water. So this book really got me!
SCARY!!!! I love it!
LOL Me too, Freda!!
There’s a real sense of immediacy in that teaser. I remember watching a show called Great Mysteries of the World at my grandmother’s house. There was an episode about the Loch Ness Monster, complete with fuzzy video. It was fascinating at the time.
Thanks for visiting Write Note Reviews.
There aren’t many mysteries out there anymore. It seems like one of the few left is underwater. We don’t know much at all about the depths and that’s why it’s so fascinating. Like an alien world.
Suspenseful. Great Teaser. Thanks for sharing and stopping by my blog.
Nadene@Totally Addicted to Reading
I chose this because it echoed my fear of what’s under the water!
Oh, dear! Now I am afraid of any body of water with more volume than my bathtub. I hope you are enjoying the book. Happy reading!
I live by the ocean but usually swim in my pool. Ever since Jaws, I’ve had a fear of what’s in the water and I’ve seen what people haul in from fishing trips.
A little frightening and really awesome. Thanks for sharing…and for visiting my blog.
Great description. That’s what I was going for:)
Intense teaser. Sounds like a suspenseful and thrilling read. Gorgeous cover too 🙂
It is! I love that cover too. The empty boat with the blood, the glimpse of a creature sliding through the mist and water. Too creepy!
Sounds really interesting. Anything about Loch Ness pricks my interest.
The author did his research and that adds to the suspense and fear.
interesting… I like mysteries…
This is a big mystery that gets revealed in scary ways. LOL
Great tease. Here’s mine for the week: http://awrenfro.com/2015/02/17/teaser-tuesday-the-shining-by-stephen-king-part-3/
I love this author. All of his series are on my bookshelves and his Meg Series is my favorite. As much as I fear them, I’m fascinated by sharks and his Megalodon series is intense. Waiting for the movie now!
Hmm, sounds really interesting! I love the idea of a traumatic history with the Loch Ness Monster. 🙂
The research was very well done and the author put a few twists in there that made it fascinating.
What a breathless paragraph. Great teaser.
It sure was!
What an intriguing teaser, Laura! I love stories about Loch Ness, too! I hope you’re enjoying this one 🙂
Thanks Lexxie. Alten does a lot of research and that makes it more real!
What an awesome, new cover! I love it. Makes me want to read it all over again, but I have his new book, Vostok, so must read that!!!!
sherry @ fundinmental
I’m reading it again to get primed for Vostok! I can’t wait to start it!
