Welcome to Teaser Tuesday hosted by Ambrosia @ The Purple Booker.
My Teaser for this week is from
River Of Teeth
by Sarah Gailey
Genre: Alternative History / Fantasy / Science Fiction
My teaser from 6% in the eBook.
She waited, already half-submerged in the water, for him to rub her snout. Her ears twitched back and forth, impatient, and she blew a bubble at him.
“Okay, alright, I know. You’ve got places to be, grass to eat.” Houndstooth crouched and put a hand on either side of her broad snout. “You’re my girl, Ruby-roo,” he cooed, rubbing her whiskers.
I’m about a quarter of the way into this book and enjoying it immensely. It’s a mixed bag of genres and has some really out there scenarios and characters.
This would be such a fun movie! Imagine riding hippos. LOL Take a closer look at the cover.

Read on if you want to know more.
Sarah Gailey’s wildfire debut River of Teeth is a rollicking alternate history adventure that Charlie Jane Anders calls “preposterously fun.”
In the early 20th Century, the United States government concocted a plan to import hippopotamuses into the marshlands of Louisiana to be bred and slaughtered as an alternative meat source. This is true.
Other true things about hippos: they are savage, they are fast, and their jaws can snap a man in two.
This was a terrible plan.
Contained within this volume is an 1890s America that might have been: a bayou overrun by feral hippos and mercenary hippo wranglers from around the globe. It is the story of Winslow Houndstooth and his crew. It is the story of their fortunes. It is the story of his revenge.

My Teaser Tuesday post.
It’s fun and so different. I’ve never read anything quite like it.
Not my usual read, but now I’m curious. Here’s mine: “SAME BEACH, NEXT YEAR”
Not mine either. It’s very different from what I was expecting, in a good way.
I’ve heard of this one, but that title sort of put me off. River of Teeth? – not the most attractive image. I usually avoid alternate history, but this one sounds more intriguing than most. Thanks for sharing.
Here’s my last Teaser for May
I liked the title, probably because of my love of horror stories. LOL This isn’t horror though. It’s something else and I’m having fun with it:)
Ok, that’s a fascinating teaser! What with the title, and the whole riding hippos, sounds like an intruging book! Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading!
There’s hippos you can ride, ones to eat, and ones that eat you. LOL This is a wild ride in an alternative history.
This is my next-but-one read, so I’m very intrigued as to how you’re getting on with it. Many thanks for sharing! And thank you for swinging by earlier:).
You’re in for a treat. And some surprises. I didn’t realize that the idea of importing hippos was actually based on fact.
This sounds interesting! I like reading alternate histories.
After reading this one, I’ll be reading more of the genre.
They certainly picked an interesting jumping off point for an alternate history. I can’t imagine riding hippos. Just might have to check it out. Thanks for sharing.
I’d love to see this as a movie. It’s kind of hard to picture them riding hippos. LOL
An unusual sounding read Laura but it has piqued my interest.
Yeah, it’s outside my usual reading. I’m glad I grabbed this!
Hippos…lol…sounds like a good one to me.

I think you’d really like this one. Especially some of the odd characters. LOL
Sounds like a plan that goes all kinds of wrong. Hope it is a great read.
You’re right. It goes wrong in a big way! It’s a two book series and I’ll be watching for the next one.
Is Ruby a hippo? A sassy man-killer hippo? Sounds like a fun read!
Ruby is a hippo. But she’s not a man eating feral one.
