This is my own version of a weekly book haul and all things new on fuonlyknew.
I’m also linking up with The Sunday Post hosted by Kimberly @Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
Some chit chat.
What happened to me? I just spent the last week watching tons of romantic comedy movies. It was like a chain reaction. I watched one. Then I went snooping to see what else I could find. I can’t even remember how many I watched. But you know what? I felt lighter. I smiled and joked more. I felt good. I think I found the cure for the winter blues! LOL Nothing like a bit of silliness to chase away the doldrums.
But what about my love of horror, you ask? No worries. That’s where books come in. I read quite a few scary stories. There was an evil mermaid. A killer dog. Two sasquatch massacres. A haunted house. And….zombies! See, I’m still me. LOL
Do you get the winter blues? What do you do to combat it?

Ooh sasquatch massacres! That sounds pretty good. 🙂 It’s certainly cold enough for some yeti action around these parts. And The MErmaid’s Revenge cover looks wicked!
Glad you had a good week of rom-coms to balance out the chills. 🙂
I just read a yeti book too. Forgot that one. LOL The mermaid book was wicked. I wouldn’t want to come across one. Probably sharks and the unknown are what keep me from swimming in the ocean anymore!
Romantic comedies are fun, and I think it’s a good idea to use them to get over the winter blues. Smiling and joking more is definitely a plus 🙂
And a killer dog?? That would probably kind of make me sad, even if it was in a horror story. Evil mermaids are so much better 😀
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.
Yeah. my symphonies leaned towards the dog. LOL It does make it hard to read sometimes. Stephen King’s Cujo tore out my heart. The mermaids. Nah, no sympathy for those evil creatures. LOL
Changing up your viewing is a good thing sometimes, to feel lighter is a good thing.
I did feel lighter. And the dark reads at night didn’t affect that. I got fun and my lovely horror in just the right doses:)
I think it’s a great thing you watched so many romcoms 🙂 I personally don’t watch those, but I think that maybe I should? At least, I’ve been longing for some fluffy and warming reads lately (although I just can’t bring myself to read romance just yet, I guess I have stigma xD). It must be the winter blues!!
Romance movies and books aren’t at the top of my preferred list but I still need them and enjoy them from time to time. It helped with the hibernation issues. LOL
I need the romance in between all the horror. It’s way I love Christmas Movies so much, it just makes me feel lighter and refreshed somehow. After a long year those 2 months of cute fluffy movies soften my black heart. lol
The Mermaids revenge sounds great! I need to look that one up.
Have a great week, Laura! Happy Reading! ox
Black heart! LOL We are kindreds!
I have been watching a lot of the Hallmark romances, they are pretty much all the same but I get sucked into them anyway and they make good background noise. 🙂 Sounds like you have read some pretty cool books!

Week in Reviews
I’ve watched some of them too. I still enjoy the books also. And like you said, background noise:)
Sometimes a romantic comedy or just a sweet romantic movie is a great thing to watch! Hope you have a fantastic week!!! ☺
I have some favorites that I rewatch too. And always feels good to pop in Pride and Prejudice:)
Okay, so now I want to binge watch romantic movies. LOL Actually I was thinking of doing that before I read your post. Must have something to do with Valentine’s Day coming up 🙂 But…like you…I’m usually the mystery, suspense, thriller type 🙂
I hope you have a great week!
Definitely not the kind of movies I binge but it felt right:)
I need to go back and read some romantic movies! I hope you have a lovely week!
Here’s my Sunday Post !
Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog and join in this week’s Book Photo Sundays!
All of the ones I watched I’d seen before. Some were really fun:)
You could make a horror version of 12 days of Christmas with the horror characters you watched this week! 3 zombies chomping, 2 sasquaches squashing, 1 evil mermaid!!!!!!
I hope you enjoy the shopping for a billionaire series. Its light and fun!
I did a month long feature, reviewing every day in October. It was fun yet exhausting. LOL I won the Billionaire set and they do look fun:)
I think I get the winter blues. I’m convince I have SAD. I hate the gray days. Romantic comedies are sometimes just what you need!
My symptoms are sluggishness. I have to force myself to do things sometimes.
OMG!! I saw your comment to Lexxie about Cujo and I totally agree with you!! I can’t read or watch King anymore after seeing the movie “Cujo” when I was young b/c I always felt bad for the dog. It was never his fault!!!!!!! 🙁 Poor, poor yellow dog..
Now I need romantic comedies.. where did you find all these movies? Plz say you didn’t go on Hallmark *cringe?* Netflix, perhaps??? I should go see if The Proposal is on there…
Have a great week!!!!! Off to find some rom-coms 🙂
I know. A sweet dog gets rabies and you get a monster. It’s not his fault. I have a DVD of Cujo and can’t make myself watch it anymore. I found the romantic comedies on Netflix and had a bunch of DVDs from a while ago.
Rom-coms can be the /best/ if you just want something light and fun to watch– which ones did you watch?
A few I watched were Must Love Dogs, Love Actually, As Good As It Gets, Sweet Home Alabama and 27 Dresses.
I have that Amy Cross book. Sad thing is I have tons of Amy Cross books (they always seem to be popping up for free) and they sound so good but I’ve never read one. I like my mermaids on the mean and nasty side so I think I’ll like this one.
I’ve read several of her books and enjoyed them. You’ll be seeing more of them this year as I plan to clear them from my TBR.
I like that cover for Sparked
I just got it and really curious to read it:)
I’m glad you liked your movie marathon. I’d probably choose a Sasquatch massacre over a rom com, though. I hope you have a good week!
I definitely love my horror but got in a weird mood. LOL
I see you got the Kellie’s diaries. Let me know what you think.
I’ve had the first one for a while. I spotted the next couple were free and went ahead and grabbed them. I hope to get to them soon and share my thoughts.
Love romantic comedies! Which ones did you watch?
I watched Must Love Dogs, Sex and the City, Sweet Home Alabama, Under The Tuscan Sun and several more.
For the winter blues I hibernate and read or watch something I like on TV or catch up on my favourite soap. If I’m chilling with a film, I can guarantee that it will never be a romantic comedy!
LOL That’s why I said “What happened to me!” I got caught up in one and just went from there. Now I feel my horror craving kicking in!
Glad you enjoyed your romantic movie marathon! And then supplemented with horror reading. LOL!
Yep, I had to offset the comedies with my precious horror. LOL
All right! Now look what you’ve done. You made me pick up four new ones. lol

They call me…….The Enabler! LOL
I love it when I click on freebies and amazon has to yell at me that I’ve already bought them all, lol. Enjoy your romance and your horror! I need them both to keep me sane.
I like that too. But…then I realize I need to get to it. LOL
For a moment you had me scared there… no horror? lol Phew! Don’t do that to me 🙂
Actually, it’s nice to have a change, a good laugh and a feel good movie!
Great post!
LOL It would have scared me too!
I do love a romantic comedy! It’s a no fail mood lifter and I’m glad it’s curing the winter blues. It’s good to change up genres occasionally. Have a great week!
I also enjoy cozy mysteries. They are light, fun and mood lifting too:)
There are some great covers in your new books pile. When had space for a garden I would look at seed catalogs to break the winter blues. Now I use sunblock lotion that has that classic sun tan lotion smell on my arms, in place of moisturizer. It reminds me of being on the beach! I hope you had a great start to your week. 😀
Those are some good suggestions. I use a shampoo that his cocoa in it. Makes me think of summer too:)
I do get the winter blues! That’s why I posted about it 🙂 I try to embrace winter s much as I can. Play with my kids in the snow, watch/read wintry movies/books. haha I love that you have been all unicorns and rainbows lately BUT I KNEW it was a matter of time until you came back here with me to the dark side where we belong [winks] xoxo
The dark side is always calling. LOL I’ve loved horror since I was young. Not going to change now. LOL
LOL That’s me and youtube. Start with one little animal video and hours later you’re watching an armadillo chase a squeaky toy. lol Yay for some fun movies to lighten the spirit 🙂
Oh, I should have talked about that too. And Pinterest! Don’t even go there. LOL
