This is my own version of a weekly book haul and all things new on fuonlyknew.

I’m also linking up with The Sunday Post hosted by Kimberly @Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

Sunday Post

Some chit chat.

What happened to me? I just spent the last week watching tons of romantic comedy movies. It was like a chain reaction. I watched one. Then I went snooping to see what else I could find. I can’t even remember how many I watched. But you know what? I felt lighter. I smiled and joked more. I felt good. I think I found the cure for the winter blues! LOL Nothing like a bit of silliness to chase away the doldrums.

But what about my love of horror, you ask? No worries. That’s where books come in. I read quite a few scary stories. There was an evil mermaid. A killer dog. Two sasquatch massacres. A haunted house. And….zombies! See, I’m still me. LOL

Do you get the winter blues? What do you do to combat it?

  1. Greg Hill says:

Ooh sasquatch massacres! That sounds pretty good. 🙂 It’s certainly cold enough for some yeti action around these parts. And The MErmaid’s Revenge cover looks wicked!

Glad you had a good week of rom-coms to balance out the chills. 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I just read a yeti book too. Forgot that one. LOL The mermaid book was wicked. I wouldn’t want to come across one. Probably sharks and the unknown are what keep me from swimming in the ocean anymore!

  2. Romantic comedies are fun, and I think it’s a good idea to use them to get over the winter blues. Smiling and joking more is definitely a plus 🙂
And a killer dog?? That would probably kind of make me sad, even if it was in a horror story. Evil mermaids are so much better 😀
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

    • fuonlyknew says:

Yeah. my symphonies leaned towards the dog. LOL It does make it hard to read sometimes. Stephen King’s Cujo tore out my heart. The mermaids. Nah, no sympathy for those evil creatures. LOL

  3. Emma says:

Changing up your viewing is a good thing sometimes, to feel lighter is a good thing.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I did feel lighter. And the dark reads at night didn’t affect that. I got fun and my lovely horror in just the right doses:)

  4. I think it’s a great thing you watched so many romcoms 🙂 I personally don’t watch those, but I think that maybe I should? At least, I’ve been longing for some fluffy and warming reads lately (although I just can’t bring myself to read romance just yet, I guess I have stigma xD). It must be the winter blues!!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Romance movies and books aren’t at the top of my preferred list but I still need them and enjoy them from time to time. It helped with the hibernation issues. LOL

  5. Michelle P says:

I need the romance in between all the horror. It’s way I love Christmas Movies so much, it just makes me feel lighter and refreshed somehow. After a long year those 2 months of cute fluffy movies soften my black heart. lol

The Mermaids revenge sounds great! I need to look that one up.
Have a great week, Laura! Happy Reading! ox

  6. I have been watching a lot of the Hallmark romances, they are pretty much all the same but I get sucked into them anyway and they make good background noise. 🙂 Sounds like you have read some pretty cool books!

  7. Jenea says:

Sometimes a romantic comedy or just a sweet romantic movie is a great thing to watch! Hope you have a fantastic week!!! ☺

  8. Yvonne says:

Okay, so now I want to binge watch romantic movies. LOL Actually I was thinking of doing that before I read your post. Must have something to do with Valentine’s Day coming up 🙂 But…like you…I’m usually the mystery, suspense, thriller type 🙂

I hope you have a great week!

  9. I need to go back and read some romantic movies! I hope you have a lovely week!

    Here’s my Sunday Post !

Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog and join in this week’s Book Photo Sundays!

  10. You could make a horror version of 12 days of Christmas with the horror characters you watched this week! 3 zombies chomping, 2 sasquaches squashing, 1 evil mermaid!!!!!!
I hope you enjoy the shopping for a billionaire series. Its light and fun!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I did a month long feature, reviewing every day in October. It was fun yet exhausting. LOL I won the Billionaire set and they do look fun:)

  11. I think I get the winter blues. I’m convince I have SAD. I hate the gray days. Romantic comedies are sometimes just what you need!

  12. OMG!! I saw your comment to Lexxie about Cujo and I totally agree with you!! I can’t read or watch King anymore after seeing the movie “Cujo” when I was young b/c I always felt bad for the dog. It was never his fault!!!!!!! 🙁 Poor, poor yellow dog..

Now I need romantic comedies.. where did you find all these movies? Plz say you didn’t go on Hallmark *cringe?* Netflix, perhaps??? I should go see if The Proposal is on there…

Have a great week!!!!! Off to find some rom-coms 🙂

    • fuonlyknew says:

I know. A sweet dog gets rabies and you get a monster. It’s not his fault. I have a DVD of Cujo and can’t make myself watch it anymore. I found the romantic comedies on Netflix and had a bunch of DVDs from a while ago.

  13. Anna Pittman says:

Rom-coms can be the /best/ if you just want something light and fun to watch– which ones did you watch?

  14. I have that Amy Cross book. Sad thing is I have tons of Amy Cross books (they always seem to be popping up for free) and they sound so good but I’ve never read one. I like my mermaids on the mean and nasty side so I think I’ll like this one.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’ve read several of her books and enjoyed them. You’ll be seeing more of them this year as I plan to clear them from my TBR.

  15. I like that cover for Sparked

  16. I’m glad you liked your movie marathon. I’d probably choose a Sasquatch massacre over a rom com, though. I hope you have a good week!

  17. feeroberts64 says:

I see you got the Kellie’s diaries. Let me know what you think.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’ve had the first one for a while. I spotted the next couple were free and went ahead and grabbed them. I hope to get to them soon and share my thoughts.

  18. Love romantic comedies! Which ones did you watch?

  19. For the winter blues I hibernate and read or watch something I like on TV or catch up on my favourite soap. If I’m chilling with a film, I can guarantee that it will never be a romantic comedy!

    • fuonlyknew says:

LOL That’s why I said “What happened to me!” I got caught up in one and just went from there. Now I feel my horror craving kicking in!

  20. Glad you enjoyed your romantic movie marathon! And then supplemented with horror reading. LOL!

  21. All right! Now look what you’ve done. You made me pick up four new ones. lol

  22. I love it when I click on freebies and amazon has to yell at me that I’ve already bought them all, lol. Enjoy your romance and your horror! I need them both to keep me sane.

  23. For a moment you had me scared there… no horror? lol Phew! Don’t do that to me 🙂

Actually, it’s nice to have a change, a good laugh and a feel good movie!

    Great post!

  24. I do love a romantic comedy! It’s a no fail mood lifter and I’m glad it’s curing the winter blues. It’s good to change up genres occasionally. Have a great week!

  25. There are some great covers in your new books pile. When had space for a garden I would look at seed catalogs to break the winter blues. Now I use sunblock lotion that has that classic sun tan lotion smell on my arms, in place of moisturizer. It reminds me of being on the beach! I hope you had a great start to your week. 😀

  26. Daniela Ark says:

I do get the winter blues! That’s why I posted about it 🙂 I try to embrace winter s much as I can. Play with my kids in the snow, watch/read wintry movies/books. haha I love that you have been all unicorns and rainbows lately BUT I KNEW it was a matter of time until you came back here with me to the dark side where we belong [winks] xoxo

  27. herding cats says:

LOL That’s me and youtube. Start with one little animal video and hours later you’re watching an armadillo chase a squeaky toy. lol Yay for some fun movies to lighten the spirit 🙂
