This is my own version of a weekly book haul and all things new on fuonlyknew.

I’m also linking up with The Sunday Post hosted by Kimberly @Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

Some chit chat.

Well, this week was a gully washer. I woke up to rain, worked in rain, and came home in rain. The sun finally shone it’s radiance Saturday morning. I rushed outside to enjoy it. Everything smelled so lush and green. Yes, green has a smell. LOL

Flors is the largest I’ve ever seen her. Just look at the size of her leaves.

And my elephant ears are taking over.

Their leaves will get even larger through the summer.

And I watched a movie I’d not seen in a long time. War Horse.

It was magnificent and broke my heart in places.

I love horse stories. Been reading books about them ever since I came across Walter Farley’s Black Stallion series. I still own all of the books in hard cover. They’re a bit worn but I love how the covers are so colorful and on the actual book, not book sleeves. Remember how they used to be like that.

Been reading a lot of good books and slacking on writing the reviews. What’s with that. I get all excited about a book I just read and sometimes the review writes itself and sometimes I can’t get the first sentence started. It has nothing to do with whether the book was good or not. LOL

Have a fabulous  Sunday and brand new week!

Wow. Those leaves are huge. And War Horse- I remember that but I never saw it. I heard it was good. I’ve never read any of the Black Stallion books but I’m a big fan of the movie- saw it as a kid and it had a big impact on me. Still think very highly of it.

I like covers like that too, with the illustation ON the cover.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I’ve never lost my love of a good horse story or movie. Guess it’s the little girl in me:) And I love to be surprised when I take off a book sleeve and find an actual cover on the book.

  2. sjhigbee says:

Those leaves are fantastic! Yes… we had a downpour last weekend and that wonderful smell when the ground has been baked hard is glorious – reminded me of childhood days in Zambia… I know what you mean about the smell of green:). Have a lovely week, Laura.

    • fuonlyknew says:

Green smells like earth dampened by rain or dew, cut wild onions or grass and crushed leaves. I love it!

  3. I remember loving Black Beauty when I was given that as a kid and I loved things like The Black Stallion, Silver Brumby, Phantom Horse, Jackie, Queen Rider. If it had a horse in it I was happy! I have read War Horse and it was a decent story.

    • fuonlyknew says:

Did you ever read Little Black A Pony? That was a gorgeous book. And I liked it when Farley wrote about The Island Stallion. The one that gave Black a run for the money. And Misty of Chincoteague. I’m not sure if I spelled that right. LOL

  4. I’ve been feeling EXACTLY the same about writing reviews. I’m just so tired of writing them, I guess. Even if the book was great, it’s sometimes hard to start.

Your plants look amazing 🙂 have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I sometimes feel like I’m repeating myself after writing so many. You write fabulous reviews that entertain!

  5. Jenea says:

Flora is looking great! I hope you have a great week!!!

  6. Andreea P. says:

    Your plant looks amazing!

I never read a lot of horse stories, but I like watching films with horses. And I am in the same boat with review writing, although for me it’s more like I really loved the book and I am sure my review will not do it justice and I am to scared to start writing it! Hopefully things will get better!

  7. kozbisa says:

Seriously, July was the wettest month, but when it’s not raining, I am being suffocated by the humidity. Let’s just cancel the rest of summer, please?

  8. I almost grabbed the Cabin but read that it is 14 books in series and all end in cliffhangers. (research before you begin) I love, love, love your Elephant Ears. I hope the week is good to you!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I didn’t grab it either for that very reason. Iy’s not often I stay with a series that long. My elephant ears get as big as an elephant’s ears. LOL If not bigger!

  9. StackingMy BookShelves says:

Beautiful plants – they are so huge now, I can’t imagine them being bigger but they do get bigger don’t they. Great books this week. Have a wonderful week!

    Mary my #SundayRoundup #30!

  10. Flora is like a person, now; she has impressive leaves.

Thanks for sharing…and I am also curious about your books…Last Call looks tempting. Enjoy!

    • fuonlyknew says:

Yep, Flora is quite the pretty lady now:) Last Call was good. I’ve enjoyed several of his books over the years.

  11. Wow those plants are getting big! Glad the sun finally came out for you!

    • fuonlyknew says:

It’s crazy how fast they come back after dying off during the winter. Probably helps that their roots don’t get frozen:)

  12. Yvonne says:

Very nice plants. They are doing so well.

Your books all look good. Enjoy them and have a great week!

  13. Your plants look fantastic. I know you are a bit of a horse nut. lol Great video and I hope you can stay dry this week. 🙂

  14. Northwoman says:

It rained an hour or two each day here this week. It kept it less hot but more humid. I also have the entire collection of the Black Stallion books but in paperback. I was in 4-H and even got to show horses at the fair a couple years. I lived on the edge of town but I sort of rented one of the horses at my 4-H leaders farm and rode the bus home with her girls after school.

I hope you have another good week with reading, it looks like you had many great things in your reviews. Anne – Books of My Heart

    • fuonlyknew says:

I worked at a riding school and also helped train and show Morgan’s when I was younger. Best years ever!!!

  15. I can relate to reading a ton of books and not writing reviews. I’m currently 8 reviews behind. Enjoy your new books. Have a great week!

    • fuonlyknew says:

I planned on writing a bunch this weekend but the sun finally came out after a week of rain and I couldn’t stay indoors. The pool called to me! LOL

  16. Looks like the plants are doing fantastic!! Glad you survived all the rain!

  17. S. J. Pajonas (spajonas) says:

We got so much rain here too. Rain rain rain rain. Ugh. I was so sick of it by the weekend. It’s not doing nice things for may husband’s tomatoes!

  18. Yay!you have Jay Spencer Green’s book 📚 Cant wait to hear your thoughts 💭 about that book!

  19. Such pretty leaves. Flors is such a big girl now. That trailer looks awesome as well. I’m reading a non-fiction book now called Drinking from the Trough and it’s tales from a teacher turned vet and she LOVES horses so lots are about them. Really cool book.

    • fuonlyknew says:

I spotted that book on your blog. Sounds like one I’d enjoy. I have a non fiction about the war horses that I hope to get to soon.

  20. Yes green definitely has a smell! I rather like it though I’m not a fan of days of rain. One rainy afternoon where I don’t have to go anywhere is quite enough! Hope you’re having a lovely week.

  21. We’re in need of rain here…and may even get some later this week! After so many weeks of heat, I’ll take a little water in my shoes 😉

  22. Nicci Boyle says:

    Ah, I enjoyed Warhorse too.
And I totally agree that green has a smell. 🙂

  23. Melissa (My World...in words and pages) says:

We had a ton of rain last week as well. It was terrible to try to get anything done. But, here’s hoping this week is nicer. 🙂 Hope you have a great week!
